Last time I posted, I got great advice on keeping my hair less poofy. I've taken much of that advice, and while I have healthy, soft, shiny, and slightly more manageable hair now, I'm still struggling a bit with excessive poofiness. Gelling my hair works, but it leads it to looking greasy until the gel dries and being too... hard after the gel is done drying. Any more advice, besides using conditioner, which has proven to be extremely helpful advice that I've already begun to take, would be extremely appreciated.
Look, just tell your mother that she'll have to accept you as you are.
(Some words don't travel well across the Atlantic.....).
Heh heh!!!:)
Hello Big L,
How long is your hair? And is your hair thick and wavy or curly? If your hair is still a little on the short side it will be poofy till it grows out long enough for the weight of the hair to hold it all down.I have a big problem with poofiness but I just tuck it behind my ears and I am gonna tough it out until it gets longer.
You might try not washing your hair for a few days. I didn't wash mine for two days and that really helped out on the poofy fact unfortunately the poofiness comes back right after you wash and condition. I found it kind of holds your hair down a little better. But I can't stand the itchy scalp that goes along with the not washing your hair.
I would say ask some of your lady friends to see if they could suggest anything for you. That may work better than hair gel. How about a mousse or even get it straightened if you like that sort of thing. I have thought about getting mine straightened but I don't like all the chemicals and stuff in it and I have a sensitive scalp.
Good luck,
Mark
OK, try this:
First you've got pretty lively hair with a natural bounce to it, extra length will help keep your hair lying flat. My hair was the same as yours early on but its now lacking in volume on top just thanks to about 11 inches of hair pulling it down.
The other thing I do is a I blow-dry my hair when I wet it. Using a cool setting I blow-dry my hair straight & flat, one of the tricks I've found for getting a sleeker finish is to hold the hair dryer above your head and angle the nozzle down, so the air blows parallel to the hair rather than against it.
Sorted
Thanks for the extra advice. Having seen your hair in pictures, I can honestly say I'm jealous. Never go back to short hair, man.
You could dry blowdrying it on warm (or cold - i prefere warm cos its freezing here!) with a paddle brush, will certainly take away your volume. If you want to just let it dry naturally, try combing it flat pref with paddle brush and leave it. A leave in product to add some weight also may help, john frieda secret weapon is also good when its dry to take way puffiness. Or there are balms than can be used which add shine too but if you use too much it'll make your hair greasy looking.
