Hi! I have been into various ways of ignoring gender rules to present the appearance that is the most "me" for a number of years. My is dark brown, wavy and goes about 1/3 of the way down my back. I often wear it back in a colorful scrunchy, and lately have got into using barrettes. (I'll work on getting a pic of myself - you can see several pics of me at www.thegrove.net/kim). Anyway I have a dream of having all of us men's fashion pioneers become a liberation movement that is recognized by the public at large, and helps let the individual male who is out there breaking the rules feel less alone. To this end I am writing a book. I have spent the last 4 months researching the history and philosophy of appearance, gender, and men's liberation. And now it is time for interviews. I want males who break the rules to share their stories with the public (with anonymity if desired). I have a web interview I send out (I have 20+ responses already) and I'd love it if some of the folks on the long-hair hyperboard would like to be interviewed. I'm interested in any biological male who breaks dressing taboos; alittle or a lot. From long-hair macho to the femme. if you want an interview, please E-mail litangel@peoplepc.com
Thanks,
Kim

Well, I don't really care if the general public agrees with my hair and dress style or not. If I make hair and dress choises that look good, more people will adopt them, and a fashion trend will start. Conversely, if I wear my hair in such a way so as to look silly, then people will just shake their heads and smile and go their way.
So whatever way it goes, it's still me wearing my hair and clothes in the way I want for me, because I think they look good. Personally, I don't need to feel less alone. However, if you're interested, you might read an article I did for the Hair Boutique a little more than a year ago. It has some experiences I had with long hair and some photos. Good luck. http://www.hairboutique.com/tips/tip058.htm

I would love to read the book when you finish.
I say go ahead and try all kinds of styles.
