I have medium length hair, about three and a half inches long. I would like to grow it longer to about seven inches on top, similar to Hugh Grant's haircut. Does anyone have any advice on growing it longer?
My hair is about the length you're talking about. Don't worry, it'll be a snap to get it that long. Just get your normal trims ( not hair cuts ) and wait a few months. It'll go by fast, especially if you don't think about it.
don't trim, every trim takes away precious time. you grow about 1/2 inches in a month. now how much do you trim on your regular trims? even if you say trim 1/4th of an inch, you're still slowing down your growing process by about two times.
if you can afford to socially go without trims, you'll get hair faster and, thus, get through the awkward phase faster.
after you get to hair length that you like and you're satisfied with, you can start getting some trims.
Ah, yes, to trim or not to trim? IMHO, I believe regular trims are necessary, to give the hair shape and blend the layers until they grow longer. Otherwise, even clean, healthy hair looks unkempt and sloppy. And, I think one is less likely to just get disgusted with the whole process and have it all chopped back off if the hair looks decent while growing out. Doesn't have to be done very often, every 3 months or so, or possibly even longer (you'll know when you need one!)and make sure your stylist knows what your ultimate goal is.
Just my two cents worth....
