My message must have been deleted, so here it is again.
One of my goals in life was to have longhair, at least have it to see if I liked it or not. 2 times I grew it out, longest being past my chin. But both times i cut it due to pressure. Now, at 23, Im trying again. But now Im also beginning to bald. I guess that flowing head of hair is out of the question. Ive had a widows peak all my life but it is just now beginning to recede.
My question is what is everyone's opinion of bald/balding long haired guys? I know some guys can really pull it off like Sean Connery, George Carlin. I just dont really see too many young balding guys with long hair. My fear is that people would view you even worse than just having longhair. Such as "Why doesnt he just cut it and come to the realization he's bald" and stuff like that,
Im just curious. I also wouldnt mind seeing people post pics of themselves that are balding.
Thanks
Yeah, or they'll say you look like an old hippie. Well, guess what. They will tell you that even if you aren't balding. They are just looking for a vulnerability and they hope they have found one.
Most likely you will have more hair than they do, and you can of course remind them of that. :-)
I know a few bald-on-top longhairs and we longhairs all just consider them to be longhairs and one of the gang. Anyone with hair down all over his shoulders is going to be considered a longhair by both groups - those with hair long and short. So yeah, you can be both bald and be a longhair. Contrary to what they'd love to lead you to believe, yes, you can be both, you don't have to pick. Of course, it is that you are a longhair, not that you have a bald spot, that is pushing their buttons.
Just as longhairs without bald spots do, you should be asking other longhairs for opinions about your hair, as you are here, and not be asking the shorthaired crowd. What you will overwhelmingly hear is that your hair looks great and you should keep it.
When you don't want to show the bald spot, you can wear a hat with a brim. Try on various hats to see what brim size looks best with the bulk that your hair has. Hats with appropriately sized brims look particularly cool on a longhair. But don't wear the hat all the time. A healthy tan on a man's scalp in the vicinity of thinning hair is especially attractive. You don't want to look pallid there.
Pete, you struck one of my pet peeves. There's a certain type of person (forgive me, but in my experience most of 'em have been females), who acts offended by anything that a man does to improve or affect his appearance. Most of the time, though, that comment: "Who does he think he's kidding? Why doesn't he just let it go bald?" is aimed at some guy who wears (or who is perceived to be wearing) a hairpiece. Same sort of thing happens if a guy colors his hair or considers a facelift, or uses a bronzer to fight the fluorescent tan he acquired from working 14 hours a day deep inside some corporate anthill. I'll be damned if I know why they do it. Some, I'm convinced, are simply young and naive and can't imagaine how they will *really* feel the first time someone describes them by mentioning their most unattractive physical feature (or at least the one they feel most insecure about). Others, I suspect, want you to look older or less physically attractive so that they'll look better by comparison. Yeah, I know it sounds trivial and shallow, but some people are trivial and shallow.
IMHO, everyone should do whatever they need to, in order to feel good about themselves. After all, if the goal were to completely banish anything artificial, we'd all be long-haired, bearded -- and buck naked. Happy holidays.

well- there's nothing wrong with adding hair to fill in bald spots- if it's done well and by a good reputable hair replacement co. many local salons and barbers offer this- there are a number of people who have long hair that has been enhanced or added to-and noone can tell the difference-

I don't think there's anything wrong with a balding or bald man having long hair.
Having said that... I have seen a few men who were mostly bald on top, but retained just a smattering of hairs scattered evenly around the bald spot, who had grown those isolated hairs long as well and had them pulled down into their ponytail (or worn loose, whichever they were doing).
As a matter of *personal* taste *only*, I didn't think that looked very good, and if it were me - and it *may* be me, in a few years time - I think I would keep the scattered hairs across the bald spot trimmed short, with the hair long everywhere else. But as I say - that's just my personal taste. :)
pete-go for it! young bald and long hair rules!
my college roomate was balding in high school but confessed to me that he wished he had long hair--i really pushed him to go for it--
after about 6 months and hair down to his shoulders he was being hit upon all the time---he looked really hot---he started shaving the top
which got me totally jealous--he really looks like a strong individual and now hes 25 and still gets all these different types hitting on him--i have thick long hair and i fantasize all the time about having a really nice bald top!
please go for it!
