I've got shoulder length thining, curly hair that I like to pull into a tight ponytail. The standard Goody Ponytailers (see link) work ok. Is there something better? Or, at least, where can I get Ponytailers like this in dark colors (brown, black) only.
Not that the Goody's are that expensive, but I don't like throwing away 80% of the package after pulling the dark colors out, and my wife doesn't use many.
The Dollar General Stores in the South carry bags of black only.

Here in Arizona there's a chinese brand of bands called Scunci. They have no metal parts so don't snag hair as much. They do sometimes break at the seam, but not too often.
They sell in a few different assortments of colors. One assortment is heavy on black, navy, dark green.
Following a lead some time back on this board I've begun wearing brighter colors. Pretty easy to match to some shirts...but then I wear wild shirts a lot, bright colors, bright prints, Hawaiians.
Wore a white band today with a mostly white Hawaiian shirt.
If you're a necktie guy consider Hawaiian print neckties, then match the pony tail band to the tie colors. I did that last year when the job required a tie, worked well.
Way I figure it if we've the self confidence to wear our hair long we have the self confidence to wear some bright colors... experiment and enjoy.
My hair is similar to yours.
Goody also sells "Ouchless Elastics" they are a sort of rubberband looking thing, but made of Urethane. They seem to be as good as claimed, very little hair breakage. They come 52 to a pack for about
a buck, and they are all black.
That being said, why not try something brighter? I always try to match the color of my shirt or pants. Never a negative comment, even with fairly large "scrunchies"
That sounds like what I use. Mine are made by Scunci, and I've found them at Target and at CVS drugstores.
I've got some assorted color small fabric bands without metal parts, also from Target, but I think the black plastic bands hold tighter and look neater - which is what I want since I mostly wear them for work anyway.
Actually Goody's does sell a 30 piece pack with virtually all dark colors. Just found a pack at the local Wal-Mart. They had plenty of pegs of the "bright" colors and only one peg of the "darker" ones, as I really had to search to find it. Anyway, they came in Grey, Navy, Dark Teal, Pale Green, Brown, a dark-almost black-Purple and a Bronze color. Since most of my shirts are in one of these color families, I can use every one! Really like the bronze color as it nearly matches the color my hair.
While I had ripped the package between the numbers, I think the product code was 27252. Maybe you can quiz Drugstore.com about it.
Best of luck!
This is how I solved that problem...
(After much experimentation, of course) I bought a spool of reasonably thick latigo lace from the leather shop. This is yellow when new.
I cut it to about twenty-five centimeters (ten inches) long, wrap it around the ponytail twice (This takes some time to master!), rotate it around the hair to reduce or eliminate hairs in the ties, and then square-knot it.
After about a week's use, the lace darkens to a very dark brown acceptable to most men (I mention no names, of course!). This provides the least hair breakage of anything I have used, including the Goodys ties. I have been using this method about twenty years now, so it certainly works for me.
Latigo lace is expensive, but one spool should last your lifetime. You can put cut pieces in sunlight to darken them. These ties do break eventually, so do not lose the spool!
I hope this works for you guys, too.
