The hair at the back of my head is now getting on for near shoulder length. However, the ends have started to flick up and stick out. I have also got a similar problem with hair growing past my ears. I have tried using mousse and gel to hold the hair down but my hair is pretty thick and strong and this just doesn't seem to work for the day. Any other suggstions for keeping a neater style.

Get a large round plastic brush, the kind made to use with a blow dryer. I got the largest one they had at the drugstore. When you're drying the hair in the back, roll it up around the brush then dry it with the blow dryer as you unroll it a little at a time. (You have to do this in 2-3 sections to do all the hair.) Do that a few times to get the hair completely dry, and don't use a comb at the ends afterwards. If your hair is like mine, it will come out straight, with the ends curled under a little instead of flicking up. Good luck.
