Hi,
I want to know what "cornrows" are. I'm from Holland so I'm not very familiar with English terms I want to grow my hair (I have thick dark brown curly hair, now about 3 inch) and read in some older posts that cornrows might help with that. Can somebody please post a picture or give a good explanation? How long should your hair be to do cornrows?
Thanks,
Michael

Cornrows are braids laid in rows from the front of the head to the back. It's a rather common African-American hairstyle, but I've seen it on others as well. The hair doesn't have to be very long... my girlfriend's 1 y/o niece has little cornrows that are about 3" long.

Michael, your hair seems to be the right length and a great texture for doing cornrows. First time around, man, you might want to have that someone special experient with weaving your locks, since the tight braiding requires incredible dexterity. I'm always impressed with brothers who braid their own. For some inventive styles check out the photo of Crucial Conflict who sport some pretty cool weaves on the Men in Plaits article that appears under the following url: www.betnetworks.com (MSBET BET Weekend Details) Glad to know there will be some cornrows amongst the Tulips this Spring! Post a pic when you can.

Hey Michael,
Be careful if you do get cornrows, a number of women here in the states have had hair loss and scalp damage because they were done too tight (this was on the news here recently). Just make sure the person who does them for you knows what they're doing.
Maybe women have, but not me. They probably had thin hair to begin with. This dude says he's got thick, curly hair and that should be no problem. I've been weaving rows and braiding my hair on and off over the years and have noticed absolutely no hair loss.: Hey Michael,
All I'm I'm saying here is that not all scalps are conducive to cornrowing and that if it's done too tight, damage can be done. I had cornrows myself in an effort to control a Chaka Khan-like haystack on my head and so much hair was pulled out by the braids that I never did it again.
A lot of women ask their stylists to do the braids extra tight because It costs so much to get them done and they want the "do" to last. It's just a good idea to make sure the person whose hands you put your hair into is reputable, that's all.
Here is an example from one of the Kelly Family
