Well, I got my hair dyed back to its original color. How can I tell if its fried? Or if it is no longer worth keeping and just cut it off?
My hair stylist says it's still pretty healthy, but the texture is real nasty when I wake up in the morning. Is it because I just got it dyed? or is it because my hair is pretty much done for?
I'm to the point of almost giving up on long hair. It's 6-7 inches, and I've lost motivation. Someone, please help. I need advice. Thanks.
The easiest way I know of to see damage in hair is to look at it with strong backlighting. I don't know if you will be able to see much if you've dyed it dark, though. What I look for are light "spots" in the hair. These light spots are areas where the cuticle is not all nice and neatly lined up along the hair shaft. Being all disheveled, they catch the light. It may help to use a magnifying glass.
Hang in there for a while, Scott! When I used to color my hair (and I did for over 15 years) keeping it in good condition was a constant battle. Immediately after being colored, it felt great, but after about a week it would begin to feel kinda dry - particularly, as you said, first thing in the morning after I'd rolled around all night! And it *really* felt gnarly after swimming! (Chlorinated water is a BIG "NO-NO" for color treated hair.)
Sounds like what you need at this point is regular conditioning... but there's a bit of a catch to this. What you need is something lightweight, just to align and smooth the cuticles so it won't tangle so badly. My recommendation is "SLIP" (see the link below). I say use something lightweight because sometimes heavy cream consitency deep conditioners can actually strip color out of freshly dyed hair!
And, as always, I have to sing the praises of Infusim 23 Leave-In Conditioner - Original Formula for damaged hair. A "miracle in a bottle" if ever there was one. I've used that stuff for 18 years now!
Best of luck to ya!
