As much as I avoid hair stylists for their tendency to want to trim a bit too much and prevent my hair from reaching new lengths, I do find the need from time to time to get a good
deep conditioning treatment.
Lately, I've been wanting to experiment with some stylish but not-too-intrusive facial stuff. Longer sideburns, a little something on the chin (but not showing the frosty corners, please!), etc.
While I think I look better cleanshaven than with a full goatee etc., I would like someone with a sense of style and the ability to pull it off to shape my stubble into an attractive and complimentary look for me.
Anyone able to recommend any men stylists, especially those who themselves may have long hair?
I'd like one who's also amenable to shaving/scuplting and doing a few braids in my hair.
I'm now in the Berkeley-San Francisco area, and willing to drive to surrounding counties for the right stylist.
Maybe we can start an informal list. I had asked a few months ago for ideas in the Pacific Northwest when I was driving down from Alaska, and can look up those names for others around Seattle.
However, I experimented in Vancouver BC with one who was alright (shaped my 3-week travel stubble into a chin thing that resembled a marijuana leaf -- not as wierd looking as you might think, but mangled my sideburns so I had to restart them). Wanted to get fixed up before hitting the last border crossing, you know.
