Hello everyone, hope you are all well.
Lately I've noticed that the ends at the back of my head are not nearly as healthy as the rest of my hair, probably because I didn't use to handle my hair as delicately as I do now. The back is also a few inches longer than the front and for the past week or so, I've been wanting to trim it.
My hair is only shoulder length at the front, and a bit more than that at the back. Would I be able to get an even trim by bringing the ends forward (parting my hair at the back) and using a regular pair of scissors? I only want about 1-1.5 inches off at the back, nothing else.
Here are a few pictures:
Oh, one more quick question... I've read here about boar bristle brushes spreading natural scalp oils. I found this brush in my home and I was wondering if it's better for my hair than a regular comb.
Thanks very much!
Happy growing,
Peter
I'm not sure about trying to cut your own hair....You could try and let us know how it comes out. The only time I have ever tried a self trim is to cut off a few weird curls on the sides, but it looked a little chopped.
Hi Peter, your hair looks great just the way it is. Why not just let it grow out for awhile insread of trimming it. It will even out on its own to some degree.
I grew mine out from a rat tail and never trimmed off the rat tail. It evened out on its own and the rat tail slowly disappeared as hair grew in around it.
Scott
I recommend you too not trimm(cut) your own hair.
You could do all wrong and f... up your hair.
BTW. Nice hair.
First, it looks good as it is but of course only you can judge the ends. Second, I think your hair might be a bit short to self trim. I just self trimmed a few weeks ago, and I found that the length I was at was probably the minimum length that I could easily self trim. (does that make sense?) You really need to be able to have your hair hang properly when brought forward, that is what will produce an even cut.

Hi Peter,
Your hair looks great the way it is, and Scott has given you excellent advice that the damage should grow out by itself, given time and a lot of TLC.
If you elect to trim, Bruce (Scooper) has given you the best advice. He did an outstanding job with his recent self-trim, but in order to do that, you need more length. I have not been "brave" enough to attempt my own self-trim.
I have some damge myself, and have not trimmed, and am hoping the damage will grow out. I may consider a trim in the future, but only if my hair does not improve in condition with TLC.
Keep it growing,
David
Hi Peter,
You got a gret head of hair there and as it grows out you will see some damage. You've got some greta advice to either trim or not to trim and that's your choice. I had my first trim 3 years of growth and even today I've got some split end damage but I don't worry about it.
Cheers,
John.B
Thanks for all the replies!
Now that I think about it, it's probably too short to get an accurate trim anyway. I think I'll wait a while (maybe about 6-8 months) and see how it grows. I'll make my decision at that point.
Thanks again for the advice,
Peter
Peter,
I'm GLAD you thought about it as your hair is REALLY NICE and I'll bet in 6 or 8 months you won't want to trim it then either. You've got GREAT HAIR!!!
John
Your hair looks outstanding, I'm really envious, this color and thickness and length is nearly perfect :O
What excellent hair you have, it looks so very good. I am unable to answer the questions that you pose and leave that to those more expert than I. I do however, reiterate that your pictures are superb. Best wishes.
I agree with the others that you don't seem to have a need for a trim at the moment, but I will give you the best instructions I know of for self-trimming for when you need them. I use them regularly with great results, and I'm a total klutz usually. :)
The instructions are at this site: http://community.livejournal.com/feyeselftrim/

Well, I can't give better instructions than those others gave, I just wanted to comment on the color of your hair, that's the blackest I've ever seen, and it looks super thick! Awesome!
"Black!!!" was intented to be the subject, not my name..ehm, mistake..
Thanks so much for the kind comments!
They really mean a lot to me, as most of the people I know frequently tell me to cut it.
