Time flies. My son will be eight soon and appears to be a born longhair as hes been always offered the choice of hair length and has never wavered in wanting it long. He agreed to a small trim on New Years Day as my wife was giving me a trim anyway. I could see him experimenting when hes a teenager with shorter styles but hes given no indication of wanting to cut it short. He views it as part of his identity.
Ive been having my hair trimmed once or twice per year. It has been gradually lengthening again since it was cut to shoulder length in July 2018. I might go for mid-back again. I doubt Id ever try for terminal again given my hairs fine texture. Im very satisfied in just maintaining and enjoying being a longhair. My cycling has been cut back a lot over the last year and its been replaced with running. Running is no doubt a bit easier on ones hair as there is no helmet and less wind damage.

Hi Jason and Happy New Year! Great seeing an update from you as for most of us it appears to be a rare occurrence anymore.Nice to see long hair still remains throughout your family so kudos to that.Hoping the new year treats you well as we move forward into the future.Cheers!

Thanks Mark! It's too bad things aren't like they used to be here. Many factors I guess but it is nice to see people still pop in from time to time to share updates.
Happy New Year!

...
Jason.
You have a beautiful family.
Congrats on your long hair as well! You should let it grow longer....even if it means a 1/2 inch trim every 6 months!
Thanks. Yeah, planning on gradually letting it get somewhat longer but with regular trims.
Jason
Thank you for the wonderful update and family photos....it has been a pleasure to have taken the longhair journey with you all these years...Keep Well my Friend
Walter
Thanks Walter! It has been a fun journey and an interesting one. Take care.
Hi Jason,
It's been ages since I've made a post on the hyperboard, since I admit to keeping a low profile, but your update brought me out of the woodwork, so to speak. It's great to hear from you again, and thank you for providing us with your excellent update.
Everything looks really good here, and you really do have a lovely family, and every right to be proud. The hair looks good on all three of you. I hope that all of you have a happy and healthy New Year in 2020.
My own hair hasn't changed all that much in length, but I'm pleased to have a full head of hair at 66 years old, going on 67 later this year. I actually took a selfie on my phone the other day, and thought about posting it here, but haven't done so yet. I'm not that good taking selfies, and for some reason, my hair looks much lighter in the selfie than I see for myself with my own eyes. I'm still pleased that it looks quite full in the photo, though.
I really should apologize for not keeping in touch.
Take care,
David
Hi David,
Thanks for the kind words. I've been really remiss myself about posting. I was feeling a bit nostalgic and going through the archive here and was reminded about how busy this place used to be. I guess with the diversification of the Internet and social media, there are just many more places where people post. I've noticed that at other other communities I've been part of that participation is down as well.
It's been a long time since we've seen an update from you so if you do feel up to posting a photo, that would be great! It is something to be proud of to be well into your sixties and still have such great hair. I used to worry about losing mine but don't think about it much anymore. I think if a guy can reach middle age with his hair intact, he'll most likely keep at least the majority of it from that point.
I hope you're still enjoying retirement and getting your daily walks in. Not sure about golf this time of year. It's been very mild lately here in the northeast.
Best,
Jason

Hi Jason,
I have tried to upload a photo that I took on my phone, and I hope that if works. I'm doing this from my iPad, which is different than how I used to do it in the "old days" when I used a computer. I'm not good at selfies, and almost never take any, so please excuse the expression.
I should mention that my hair looks lighter in the photo than in real life, but there are definitely more silvers than there used to be, lol. At least it gives you some idea of how my hair looks I need to figure out how to do a back photo. Maybe I need to use the old mirror trick.
During the winter months, I do lots and lots of walking, since there is a paved trail very close to my home. I estimate that I walk around 8-10 miles a day provided that the weather is decent. Our winter hasn't been too bad so far, but that's about to change, with several big storms on the way.
Best,
David
Hi David,
Wow, your hair is looking as full and thick as ever! The silver color looks very distinguished. Ive started to notice a few creeping into my hair now. My beard has much more gray than my head hair.
Thats excellent that you walk so much. Im fortunate to also live near a trail. It used to be a railway so its called a rail trail and its mostly dirt. I actually prefer the dirt because it allows me to run with less impact on my body.
Thanks for the update!
Jason
Hi Jason,
Thank you so much for your kind words. That photo was only just taken this morning, the day after I washed it, and although still a bit light, the colour is a better match than the photo that I took a few days ago. I actually find that my hair looks best on the second, third, and fourth days after washing, but if I try to push it to five days, my hair starts to get greasy. I usually wash it every 3-4 days. I dont mind a few silvers at all, actually. Although I wish that I could achieve more length, Im reasonably content with what I have at 66, going on 67 this summer.
Actually, my walking trail used to be a railway line that was decommissioned about 15 years ago. It has been paved for about ten years now, and they even keep it plowed and salted in the winter. I find it a wonderful resource, and it gets a lot of use from walkers, cyclists, and runners.
Thanks again,
David
Wow time is flying indeed, I remember when your son was born and now he is so big. Great he still enjoys being a longhair.
Your hair looks great to.
I also stopped aiming for terminal length, I cut it to shoulder length every 1-2 years and let it grow again. I enjoy having healthy hair with less maintenance.
Good luck with your family, you look very happy together. Hope we can meet in real life some day!
Vincent
Hey Vincent,
Good to hear from you and thanks for your comments! I do still have a little curiosity about terminal length but it's just so much work to care for hair that long especially if it's fine in texture. Maybe one day when I'm retired, I'll try again. Of course, terminal length will probably be shorter for me then.
I'm glad that you're still a longhair and have a found a good system for trimming and growing. If you ever come over to the States, give me a holler!
Best,
Jason
It's really good to hear from you, Jason, and it's also good to see the board leaping into life with the new year. It is really heartening to see you happy family life with your son also flying the longhair banner. Best wishes, Anthony
Hi Anthony,
Thanks for your comments. It is nice as a parent to afford my son the opportunity to make his own choices regarding his hair. This was something denied to many of us.
Congrats on reaching terminal length! That's a "graduation" of sorts. Maybe someday I'll also reach that point.
Best,
Jason
Hi Jason,
you all have really beautiful long hair! Your trims look very nice and neat. I might do some bigger trims in the future, because my ends are thinner and I like the all on one length cut.
You are a cool, supportive parent! There should be more people like you.
Cheers!
Hi Philip,
Thanks for your comments! I always wanted long hair as a child so my wife and I wanted to be sure to allow our son to have that choice.
I agree on the all-one-length look. My wife usually just cuts my hair straight across the back so I can maintain that. Of course, your hair is a major inspiration! I think your ends look great as they are now but no doubt some trims would make your ends even thicker.
Take care,
Jason
