Hi everyone,
Just thought I'd post some of my long hair inspiration over my lifetime. I'm 54 now, so this goes back a little while :)
When I was 14 I was first inspired to grow my hair out by “Atreyu” from the movie the NeverEnding Story:

When I was a little older, 20s and 30s, my inspiration was David Gilmour from Pink Floyd:

Now that I am getting older, I still look for long hair role models, and one of my favorites now is Robert Plant who is 77:

Anyway just thought I'd share. I'd love to see any of your long-hair inspirations.
Happy growing!
Philip
Hi Philip,
Thank you for these inspirations, all great ones.
There’s a few more that come to mind.
The first one has to be Willie Nelson. He has always had the most amazing head of hair, at least until very recently. He had two, fantastic, thick, twin braids, down past his waist until his early 90s. If he isn’t an inspiration to anyone, especially those who are older, I can’t think of a better example. Sadly, upon further research, I found that he buzzed his hair off shortly after the article below was written, but he has always been an inspiration anyway, just because of the sheer amount of time that he had long hair.
Another is Gregg Allman, who had incredible, straight, blonde hair. I felt genuinely honoured when a guy in Costco likened me to him a few months back, and added, “I like that look”. That compliment made my day.

Although not super long, Kurt Cobain from Nirvana had great hair as well. Many guys in other communities, including one guy from Brazil with a YouTube channel, who has super long hair, have quoted him as an inspiration in their early days of having long hair.

Thank you, Jesus, and I think that it works now. I also removed my question from the original post.

Willie Nelson - totally a classic archetypal long hair and a real inspiration! A true legend :) Nice inspiration choice! I didn't know he buzzed his hair off, that is a shame, but perhaps there is a reason he did it. (medical care, or something). Alas, he will always be a long hair inspiration regardless!
I'm not nearly as familiar with Gregg Allman's appearance, although I am familiar with his music - but his hair in the link you shared is beautiful. Thank you for sharing that!
And Kurt, I think he inspired a generation for that longish shaggy look - it's a good look and really worked for him.
All excellent sources of inspiration! Thank you!

Hi Philip,
I was shocked, that not only did he cut his hair, but he shaved it bald. I only discovered this during my research into his long hair in his 90s. At least he has had long hair for most of his life anyway.

One day, I wanted to have long hair because I found this beautiful, it was in 1998.
I live in France and in the 90s there was the TV series Highlander on TV and I liked the look of Duncan McLeod with his ponytail and often sharp dressed. His hair is partially fake, see explanations in this post.
There was also another TV series, Renegade, title “Le Rebelle” in France. This TV series were aired on channel TF1 on Sundays afternoons after the 1 pm news and Walker Texar Ranger. This is also a souvenir of a generation here: the Sunday family lunch with chicken and fries and the TV with Walker Texas Ranger in the background.
Two characters have long hair in this TV series, I have a preference for the the look of the Indian who wore suits and bolo ties. It was years after that I finally found the name of these ties and now I have some that I wear when weather is warm because it keeps your neck cooler than a regular tie.
Ah yes, Duncan McLeod from Highlander is a good inspiration! I've never heard of Renegade but I'll look for some pics of the characters from the show. Although it plays into stereotypes to some extent (and to some extent not) I do love the look of long haired Native Americans. There is a tv movie called Dreamkeeper that is full of beautiful long haired Natives - if you have a chance check it out :) It's a good movie in its own right, too!
Thanks for sharing some of your inspirations!
Philip
