Hey everyone,

I haven't been posting very often anymore because I'm still having a lot of trouble: still always getting that screening notice and my posts never show up till a day later. But I'd thought I'd make a quick post just for an update on my progress.

It's now been 3 full months since I cut my hair... I'm coming from a buzz cut so I have about 4 months worth of hair, about 2 inches. It reaches about to my eyebrows when pulled down and I figure I have about 9 more months to go before it reaches my chin. So I'm suspecting I will reach that point around mid-autumn 2003. I'm aiming for shoulder length and I figure I'll have that sometime in late summer 2004; however, I'll be somewhat satisfied once the front is chin length. I haven't yet decided when to trim the back, but I'll probably wait till the front is a couple inches past my chin.

I hope to post a picture sometime in January. I also want to thank everyone here who has been so helpful to me and so many others... without this board I'd probably never be successful at growing out a nice, healthy head of hair. MOST of you are great. All of the regulars at least are.

Chris

P.S. Bill: I'm still having trouble posting, even with that advice you gave me in the e-mail. Help me out?

A rant about girls opinions on long hair

I don't usually do this but I have alot of time to kill today, and it's not off topic or anything. The other day, I over heard this longhaired guy complaining about how he can't get a "hot chick" because of his long hair... i looked at him and immediately thought to myself "IT'S NOT THE HAIR!!!" This guy had some really nice, clean looking dark brown hair which looked great. His clothing however wasn't exactly the best option for attracting women. He was wearing a cheap flannel shirt, some plain looking shirt underneath and a pair of cheap jeans (by cheap I mean they weren't name-brand, maybe they were expensive but they looked really plain). Now I don't mean to offend anyone, there is nothing wrong with wearing clothes like these but if you do don't complain about the fact that you can't get a super model. Next time you go to a public place look around, notice all the beautiful, fit, well dressed women are with handsome, fit, well dressed guys? And look at the less attractive, sloppy looking women and look at who they are with. There are exeptions though, if you have an extremely good personality (by good I don't mean your a saint or something, it could be the opposite as long as you stand out) and you look like crap you can still get a nice looking girl. I had a longhaired friend who wore nothing but torn up pants, beat up shoes and old band shirt with holes in them and was pretty ugly but this guy had one hell of a personality, he was not afraid to speak his mind and he basically did what he wanted when he wanted, well he also had a BEAUTIFUL girlfriend but for the most part this doesn't happen. I have noticed that quite a few longhaired men dress in a rather sloppy manner, usually they don't want to "conform" to name-brand clothing or simply feel comfortable in what they are wearing, there is nothing wrong with that but then these same guys ask themselves why women don't like men with long hair... once again, it's not the hair it's their overall appearance!!! For example, I have a few uncles that are around 40, out of shape, big beer belly, dress in cheap clothes and they are BIG perverts, when we get together on the holidays and such they question why they are single!!! They really can't figure it out!!! Longhair or not they look like crap, they are going to get crap! You can't expect a woman to work hard (or pay alot) to look beautiful and not have her expect the same from you. Want more proof that it's not the hair? Well there's also a few well-dressed longhaired guys, they workout, spend a little too much on clothes, use cologne etc. and these guys, longhair and all, usually have gorgeous girlfriends. I myself used to constantly shop at Wal-Mart, felt no need to workout (though I'm not fat but I've grown to love weightlifting now) and I thought shopping at expensive name-brand stores was for idiots.. I also had lots of trouble getting a g/f. I started changing my look and started getting more positive attention from "higher quality girls" aswell as teachers (all my grades have raised a bit even though my effort has not changed, hmm..) and even strangers (At stores, before I used to have to ask when I needed something, now everyone is alot more helpful w/out me even asking and alot of people start conversations with me now). So there's my proof that it's not the hair, it's everything else. Why did I post this? Well I'm bored, and I have also noticed that every now and then there's that post asking if women like longhair on men or not, well there's no specific answer to that one but a longhaired guy can definately have an attractive woman. Anyone agree or disagree? Sorry for any spelling errors, I didn't pay too much attention while typing.

Problem that's reared itself.

I have been growing for 17 months and I have a problem. My hair is frizzy at the sides. The frizz is extensive to the point that my hair doesn't look good at all because bits of it stick out frizzy and bits of it don't. Is it because it is damaged? I'm guessing it is because I have dyed it 3 times. The only way I can rid of this frizz is to either allow my hair to go greasy, straighten my hair, or extensively gel it. Each option is not what I want but what am I gonna do? I may have to cut it but I really don't want to. Oh yeh there is 6 months of completely undyed hair on my head. Any comments would be helpful I'm getting pretty annoyed about it all.

My hair was probably the longest I had ever had it at that time and I've had it cut several times since but am growing it back. It's still thick and sort of wavy and I see more grey in it now but I'm just glad I still have it.

I couldn't help but notice the post from "SixString" about his change of "image" and how it has really helped him out in many different ways. I couldn't agree with him more.

I too like cleanliness. The hair "must" be washed & conditioned every day, the teeth "must" be brushed twice a day, my body & my breath "must" smell pleasant to others, the clothes "must" be clean...and clean looking, etc. I work out at the gym three times a week and play tennis at least two times a week to stay in shape and take care of myself. Sure I have my days where the black sweat pants & the comfortable baggy shirt are the dress for that day...but even then, everything on my person is not only clean, but is clean looking.

If you look like a bum, then you'll be treated like a bum! Yes, I know the saying "to each his own", but the reactions received from others are as different as night and day when talking on the subject of appearance. I have never put myself above others & hope I'm not coming across that way, but I just enjoy the "clean" look. I don't mind anyone looking however it is that they wish to look, but for me, personally, I like to be clean & look clean as well.

No, my wife has nothing to do with my appearance at all...I have always been like this. Obviously, she is happy that I like to be & look clean, but then again so do she. My hair did indeed attract her attention the night we met, but she also liked the fact that it was clean and healthy looking.

Yes I have long hair (mid-back), yes I have earrings, yes I have tattoos...but for the most part everyone I come across seems to be fine with all of this for the reason that I portray a clean image to them. I too am a very easy person to get along with and have a great personlality which also makes total strangers more at ease with my long hair. Do you have good manners? Good manners will also help strangers get over the fact that you are a guy and have long hair. Like some of the posts I read in reply to SixString's original post...it's all about the image and especially how you carry yourself! You don't "have" to shop at all of the high dollar stores, you don't "have" to drive a certain type of car, you don't "have" to be in a certain tax bracket, etc. All you have to do is to carry yourself (& your hair) well and take care of yourself as far as your hair & your body go. Like I said earlier, if you look like a bum, then you'll get treated like a bum...and the level of your sexual tastes that you will attract all depends on how you are presenting yourself to the world. If your sexual tastes are below par then go ahead a look below par, but if you want to attract above par sexual partners then you yourself need to look above par...or you can simply be a famous Hollywood Star...whichever is easiest for you.

The only group that I do not care for is the extreme grunge look and the extreme greaser look...most of the time these are one in the same. Us long haired males have a hard enough time getting acceptance without the grunge/greaser types making it that much harder for us...because whether you believe it or not we get lumped in with the grunge/greaser group for the simple reason that since we have long hair then we must be like them. Not true, not true at all.

Again, not to step on any toes, but from most of the posts I read in reply to SixString it sounds like there are alot of you that feel the cleaner you look the better.

So the point of the story is take care of the appearance of your hair (as well as other aspects of your person) and you will find life to be alot easier and alot better for you.

Seasons Greetings!

Mmmkay, here's my second post.
I've been noticing a lot of questions about shampooing hair lately, and I decided that I need attention, so I'm gonna post my own. A lot of people seem to agree that washing twice or three times a week is good. But I'm thinking of swearing off shampooing altogether until I get through the akward stage, and my hair's long enough to tie back. Or at least limiting washing to twice a month, or something.
Here's the reasoning: My hair is the thick/curly kind we've heard so much about. And after I wash it, it poofs up all over my head. After a few shampoo-less days however, the oils help control it and keep it in place. Sort of like a natural gel.
I've heard about people giving up shampooing, and only washing with water before. (I think it was on Bill Choisser's page.) Does anyone have any thoughts/experiences/advice they can give me here? I don't like the poofiness, but if shampooing is necessary, I think I'd be able to work it into my schedule whenever I get a few days off work, and I can wear a hat. Thanks.

Buyer beware...

From IGN.com:

One of the biggest DVD releases of the year hit stores on Tuesday, but the three-disc set of the Back to the Future movies has a little problem that Universal doesn't want you to know about (until February 2003, at least). The anamorphic widescreen transfers on Back to the Future II and Back to the Future III were framed improperly, which means that elements in the picture that should be visible are cropped out.

Now, the studio is aware of this problem, and there will be a replacement program in effect starting in February, but that information isn't being made readily available for the people headed down to the store to fork out $40-$50 for the three-disc set. Thankfully, some store employees have smartened up and are telling customers about the problem, but Universal still has a multi-million dollar advertising campaign in effect for the release. They want as many copies to be sold through Christmas as possible, and then in February those people who bought the messed up DVDs will be able to send the discs to the studio for replacement copies.

This isn't an isolated problem with just a small amount of the shipment affected. Every copy of BTTF 2 and BTTF 3 on store shelves is affected by the bad framing. Everyone who buys the set will have the "defective" DVDs.

Our pal Bill over at The Digital Bits got his hands on the email that Universal is sending to people who ask them about the problems:

"Thank you for your email. Universal Studios will exchange Back to the Future parts 2 and 3 for copies with the updated framing in late February 2003. You may send the DVDs back now or wait until February. Please send Back to the Future disks 2 and 3, without the case, and a letter with the following information: Name, Full Mailing Address, Daytime Phone Number, Reason for Return and Return Address. Send to:

Back to the Future DVD Returns
PO Box 224468
Dallas, Texas 75260

Thank you,

Okay, I've got 2 posts for tonight, 'cause I've been gone for a little bit.
First one's just a little story. My grandparents dropped by for a few days during the holidays, and the first time he saw me, my grandpa thought I was wearing a wig. I guess that means I'm progressing, but I'm not seeing it to quite the degree he is. Anyone else have any similar experiences?

Hey everyone, probably wasting mine/your time, but i got nothing better to do. =) And you clicked on the link, so you obviously don't either.. Anyway, i tried growing out my hair once last year, but i always kept the sides and back shorter, and it was all bleached, and yach it looked terrible after a while, just some glorified bowl-cut, so i hacked that off (ironically when i took notice of a certain girl.. lol.) Anyway, i decided to go for it again, and this time things are going much better.. it's only been a few months, but im loving the awkward stage this time.. i decided to leave everything at the same length, and i just love the way the hair flips around in the back.. Im thinking of just sticking with a length somewhere in the awkward stage and staying there.. Every girlfriend, and every girl for that matter that i've asked thinks that long hair on guys doesn't look good.. i disagree.. but i was thinking of reaching some kind of a medium.. maybe 5 inches or so. what do you guys think?

I kinda believe that long hair goes along with Rock, Metal or the guitar. Most guitarists have long hair. Even those who cut, had it (ex.Satriani).
I was having a discussion with some guy and I was arguing that a Metal band with guys not having long hair is decieving and is unMetal.
He said, no no, but in the end had to admit that it was the case. Long hair is one condition of being in a Metal band. But he said, yeah, yeah, I have short hair becuase of my job....

Am I the only one to think like this here? Afterall, anyone ever seen a Classical music orchestra wearing shorts playing. You can`t be in an orchestra if you don`t conform to the elegant dressing code. Same thing for Metal and Rock.

Question About Growing Hair Medium Long

Hey all, glad I stumbled across this message board. I have a question about growing my hair out, I have never let it grow longer than a month.. But at just about that stage the sides get really bushy and fluff out. I was wondering if it was possible for me to grow my hair out to a little shorter than shoulder length? If so, how long will it take? And what technique(s) should I use to make it look good?

Thanks in advance.

what you would look like as a longhair? or even how your HAIR would look long? im realistically targeting people who have never had long hair or are in the process of growing thier hair and expect it to look like a certain film star or musician..

i always wanted my hair to look like kurt cobains but it will never be like his hair and was something i had to get to grips with..

so who do you expect your hair to go like once its at ur desired level???

after doing much research i expect my hair to be like Oded Fehr..

FINALLY just saw Lord Of The Rings: the two towers tonight and i have to say i liked it even better then the first

also great to see a movie with ALL longhairs in it
only thing that seems a bit odd is i would think that a lot of fans of lord of the rings would have long hair
themselves. i went to a fairly large screening and there was not a single longhair in the theatre, most everyone in there were teenagers with either buzzcuts or the usual short hair, and a few shaved heads

any other LOTR fans on here notice it either way?

I am 21, and have been growing my hair out for 6 or 7 months. My hair is thick and somewhat curly/wavy. But I can't seem to get my bangs out very far. When wet, the bangs will go down somewhat, but by the time they dry, they are no longer really covering my forehead. Is there any advice on how I can get fuller, longer bangs? Thanks. =)
