Hope everybody had a great Christmas!?
Down in South Africa visiting my family before moving to Thailand next month. Having a blast catching some waves! Was testing out my new little GoPro knockoff :p
What do you all think of the perfectly straight across blunt trim look on men? It seems to be a style more common on women than men, but it looks cleaner and more polished, thoughts?

Hello long haired friends !! I have some very exciting news that I have been meaning to relay to the board. My wife, Melinda, is will be giving birth to twins very very soon ! We are so excited. We are having having a boy and a girl, and have names picked out. Out son will be named Finley Charles Brands, and our daughter will be named Rowan June Brands. We are hoping for a red head as it runs on both my side of the family as well as my wifes. I will definitely encourage my son to grow his hair if that is the path that he chooses. My wife is currently in Dallas where she is on strict bedrest. I work in the IT field and have been working from home during the week where I watch my stepdaughter. I visit my wife on the weekends to cheer her up. I hope everybody has a GREAT HOLIDAY no matter your personal beliefs, and I will keep you updated on my hair growth saga :) Take care !!
Hi, wanna share some pix showing my hair. I prefer undercut hairstyle since my hair is curly and the best way (for me) to wear it is to have long on the top and shaved sides. I also wear segmented ponytail , this is how I can keep my hair in place, so from the practical point of view it is the best option and it is easier to do than braiding it.
Have a great holiday

Hey, men with long hair,
I'm suffering from hair loss and was wondering does anyone know what stage I am in?
Also, do you think it's somehow going to grow back without medicine or am I f**ked? It seems like my hair has come to an end, though.
My dad is mostly bald.

I don't know if many members remember me but I just dropped in to wish all my fellow longhairs - and those aspiring to be one - a great Christmas!
Damon
First off, his hair is NOT long and WHO is she to tell him to get a haircut when her hair is long herself. seems a bit hypocritical for a chick who likes hers long to tell a dude to get his clipped short, doesn't it?
lets turn the tables. suppose he had mid-back length hair and told her she should get a super short crop and her hair was barely over her ears.
have any of you guys had issues especially with women with long hair suggesting you get a short haircut?
I came across this article regarding long hair as an extension of our sensory system:
http://native-pride.net/2015/12/21/the-truth-about-long-hair/
Any thoughts?

A Linux Longhair
My son will be four next month. My wife has trimmed the back of his hair a little bit from time to time and a few other spots have needed attention due to excessive tangling. Other than that, itÂ’s pretty much untouched.
On quite a regular basis I ask him if he wants it cut and he always says he doesnÂ’t. IÂ’ve continued to emphasize to him that he can have his hair any way he wants it. HeÂ’s remarked on a couple occasions that he wants his as long as mine so weÂ’ll just have to see. He usually wears it loose but heÂ’s also had full ponytails, half ponytails and braids.
He wonÂ’t start kindergarten until 2017. Things might be harder for him when he starts actual school. It could test his resolve to keep it long but that will be choice he will have to make. The present daycare environment doesnÂ’t contain any pressure against having long hair from other kids. In fact, there are a couple boys that have hair longer than his.
HeÂ’s quite proud of his hair and gets compliments all the time. Of course, I sometimes have to correct strangers who mistake him for a girl. HeÂ’s into all things that boys typically are and his clothing consists of colors typically worn by males so that helps cut down on the mistakes somewhat.
I'm just glad that as a father, and with my wife's full approval, I can offer him complete hair freedom. It was something I was denied.
I have been asked a handful of times recently including today, "why did you grow hair out if I only wear it in a ponytail?" And to be honest the question bugged me at first, perhaps because I questioned myself. After all, I am definitely a ponytail guy at this point in time; I probably wear it like that 80-90% of the time. Why did I grow it to wear it in a ponytail? But as I thought through it I came up with this answer:
First, I couldn't wear a ponytail if I hadn't grown it long.
Second, a ponytail definitely does not look like short hair. And I like how it looks.
Third, and perhaps most important, it definitely does not feel like short hair. It brushes against my shoulders and has will of its own, and is far more interesting than my buzz cut ever was.
I think that this applies regardless of how you wear your hair. So what if you prefer to wear the same style everyday, choose to wear it up all the time in a bun or loose, or change it up every 5 seconds. It isn't the same as anything else, and you definitely couldn't d that with short hair. So tomorrow, having thought things through, I will be proud and pleased to wear my hair anyway I want, even if it is a "boring" ponytail.
Thanks for reading. And best of luck growing!
Briefly, breeching was the "rite of passage" when boys would start wearing breeches or trousers (pants as you call them in the US). It would also involve their long hair being cut.
As a priest, I'm not always in a cassock these days, but it has given me the experience of wearing a long "dress" in public, with a pair of shorts of only underpants under it. It is a lot more comfortable than trousers.
In this forgotten custom, like women always wearing their hair up and with a hat, we see the roots of many of our habits. When I was a little kid, I put on a dress to play with my two sisters, and was often annoyed at having to take it off and put on boy's clothes to go out with my mother into town. But, my hair was always short as a child in the 1960's.
Perhaps, some seeing my little posting might conclude that long-haired men are regressing to the state of "unbreeched" children! No, but the cultural root is there and we argue that it there is no need to have short hair to be a man... Our modern society includes cross-dressers and people who more or less identify with the opposite sex along a "continuum". People do need to be free.
I'm looking forward to reading other views.

PS. Please delete the first post with the bad html coding. Thank you.

My 19th month update with ponytail.
Hi, my name is Markus, I am from Austria (not to be confused with Australia LOL I am kidding), I am glad to find this hyperboard, great to have place like this where longhaired folk can discuss everything hair-related. I wish I had come across your community earlier...
Age 20. Started growing my hair out about 5 years ago when was 15 and still at school. Had difficulty in talking my parents into letting me wear long hair. Fortunately everything turned out OK. I attended a very ordinary school with no strict dress code rules so no problems there. By the time I left school, I had a rather long ponytail. Some of my classmates envied me...hahahahaha...LOL
Now a university student, studying History.
Want to share some photos showing my hair growth progress

after 2 years of growth or so, I guess it is the year 2012

Im gonna grow my hair long and im ready!

I'm Greg. I often browse the posts here and final got the guts to post myself. When I hit 40 (nearly 42) told my wife I was going to grow my hair out and fortunately she gave her blessing. I had always wanted to give long hair a go, but never really went through with any serious attempt. I figured since I was fortunate enough to have all my hair, wasn't getting any younger, and was in a position where it wouldn't affect me at my job I would run with it.
As I am sure everyone here knows all to well, the awkward stage was rough, but I preserved. So here I am about 2 years later with hair passed my shoulders and out of the awkward stage, and most importantly I finally feel like a longhair! It was definitely worth the wait. Most of the negative comments have died away, the real exception being my 2 daughters who "hate" dad's hair. But what are parents for if not to frustrate and annoy their children? So sadly for them I plan to continue growing.
Best of luck to each of you and keep on growing!

Crazy how fast last month flew by!
I can really feel the weight of it on the sides. Totally loving this journey. Grow on my friends!
Wes
I thought I would share this one with you. I attended an ordination in my Church last month in England. I dutifully tied my hair up. It's not a very good photo, but it shows the essential.
It's still growing!
Is it my imagi9nation or are women's hair getting shorter?
While i've noticed an increase in men with longer hair i've also
noticed a vsat increase in women going with shorter hair.
And for a number of these women the hair is very short. (Almost a buzz cut.) I've noticed this at various stores in the areas as well as at the gym and elsewhere.
Something to think about when someone tells you look like a girl with your long hair.
Here's a little update to add to my "ponytail" posting. Going by my "no-cut" chart, I have reached 2 years and 3 months, or 27 months.
I used a webcam, so the definition isn't very good.

Hi!
ItÂ’s time for my yearly update!
As many of you know, IÂ’ve started to grow my hair long 5 years ago. From very short. This pic is from 3 years ago after I cut my hair to the same length in an effort to get a perception of greater volume.
A.D.

I have officially hit 19 months of growth guys ! Yay ! I took pics of my hair in a man bun for the first time. I can't wait for the 2 year mark. I feel that once you hit a year and a half of growth, your hair really begins to start looking great. I think it eill be easier from here on out. Take care all !

Checking in with my monthly hair progress. I am coming up onto my 19th month of growth. Loving every moment of it ! Take care guys.
There's a German (I think) site that has photos of their monthly long haired selections, from 2013 to 2016 (yes, 2016 is already available. You can even order the calendars from the site. Here's the link:

Firstly...sorry about the greasy looking hair...just returned from walking in the wonderful Nottingham rain today!
Happy with the growth rate recently but worrying I may be thinning a little...it may be because I've never had this pattern /length of hair before!
Any comments gratefully accepted!

Really awesome to see to many people express the same things I feel and that there's this one thing that brings us all together from so many interesting places all over the world.
Currently living in London for 2 more weeks, then after 6 years here I'll be moving to Thailand (my quarter life crisis is calling for adventure!). So I'll be asking all you curly haired folk for lots of tips on how to deal with the humidity!
I'm trying this whole "no-poo" business but still condition after diving practice and I'll be trying some home-made shampoos soon (so if anybody has some advice please feel free to share!)..

Today. 2 days after 23 degrees in the morning.
Wash once a week with Kiehl's shampoo and conditioner. Use the hair salon every 6 months.
Happy Holidays
Don

1 full year of hair growth from a buzz cut. No trims thus far.

I hope ya'll had a Happy Thanksgiving. This year was a quiet one for us - just the two of us with a stuffed turkey, the accoutrement, and lots of wine. Afterwards, I felt like a stuffed turkey, but we had fun and dinner was delicious (all old family recipes from both sides of the family).
I made a couple of photos for a 10 month update. I'm pleased with how it is growing.

I can't believe there are still people this ignorant around today.
the focus should be on his playing ability, not his hair!

Thanks to everyone who tried to make me feel better after I was a dummy and cut 15 inches off my hair lol. Figured I'd post an update pic.
Dear Fellow MLHH Members,
I don't really know what to say, or how to say it, other than I feel so heart-broken right now over what happened this past Friday in Paris. My condolences to the French people, and to anyone else who suffered injuries or lost a loved one to any of these recent horrific terror attacks.
The world seems to have become such a violent place -- or, probably more truthfully, it has been violent for many many years now (if we honestly look back to the countless wars throughout recorded human history on planet Earth).
People and countries alike, all overt the world, have done such an excellent job at being destructive, at being hateful & hurtful, at feeling justified in their anger & reasons to stay unforgiving, at condemning another's greed while remaining blind to the damage caused by their own self-interest. It's a miracle we have as many kind-hearted, fair-minded, tolerant, and peaceful people on this planet that we do have.
Rather than get into a no-win game of national and international finger-pointing (easy to do, since as an example, even though I myself am an American, I am far from "proud" of many of the things my own government has done to other peoples and to other countries on many different fronts), I'd like to recommend to all who are interested in joining me here, the following commitment to ourselves and our world: that long hair to us symbolizes and represents a desire for peace, tolerance, and a commitment to protect life -- rather than to destroy it.
Human life is so fragile. One moment we're enjoying a rock concert, a soccer game, or eating out at a favorite restaurant on an ordinary Friday night; but then the next moment, we might be suddenly witness to the senseless shooting death of a friend or family member.
Similarly, the joy of having long hair can be so very easily taken away from us -- something that takes YEARS to grow out and care for, within a minute or less can be butchered, burned, or buzzed away...
Just felt like sharing a few thoughts about these recent events with you guys, as I continue to try to figure out how the hell I'm supposed to pray for peace, and to hope for the eventual healing of such deep sadness and grief that the people of France must be experiencing right now. My deepest condolences.

Just playing around
My wife and I just got back from Thanksgiving Dinner.
I was surprised to see so many guys now with long hair.
And some of them work at the resteraunt.
And as usual all the women in the place had hair shorter than
mine.
So needlesss to day I thoroughly enjoyed Thanksgiving Dinner.
Just me and my wife no other family members.
Here is a small imgur album, documenting my hair growth journey:

It has been about 13 months since I started this wonderful journey.
Also, I'm excited to let you all know that I got married on Halloween!! :)
I married my boyfriend of 2+ years in a small Handfasting at a local park.
Cheers, All! :)

guy hair style?
I really feel like a long hair at heart, but I guess I have every reason NOT to wear my curls long. I'm always like...
If only I was taller!... If only I was a few years younger!... If only my hair was thicker!... If only I lost 20 % of my weight!...
But still I want long hair, go figure! I'm growing it now as I have many times before, but social pressure can change my mind any time (I know from experience that can happen to me a lot). The thing is, I have a tendency to believing they (my mother, my sisters, random people) may be right, because deep inside I think short hair suits me better. The funny thing is I only feel that way when it comes to myself, for I always think other males (and I mean all of them) look better with long hair (the longer, the better), but just not me! So, when I´m deep in the awkward stage, if I'm feeling a little depressed or get a bad comment, I run to the barber's shop and dispose of my hair like it was garbage, but soon I want to grow it back (I'm a long hair at heart and there's nothing I or anyone can do about it). People may say it's only hair, but I know better. It may sound silly (it's only hair after all) but I think long hair on a man is about making a statement. I even think long hair is synonymous with a different breed of men (one that I like much better, by the way).

Hey all,
I am not new here, I have been checking out the MLHH for years now. I am nearly 30 years old and have grown my hair out a number of times throughout the past 10 years. And to be honest I have NEVER felt like myself with short hair!! This is how I look currently after about a year and 2/3 months growth without having any haircuts/trims. My current goal is to grow it out to just below my chest. Anyway just thought I'd post an update seeing as I'm always checking in :)
Thanks!
David
I've enjoyed commenting on some recent "Manbun" threads, including reading that NY Times article that Never2Long posted a link to. I get a kick out of hearing how some sort of latest hair trend is now suddenly "in style", just because a magazine or newspaper now says that it's so.
The truth of the matter is:
In order for a man to successfully grow his hair out, -- and even more importantly, in order to KEEP it long -- you have to not really care about what's currently "in" or "out' of style.
If today the man-bun is considered to be the coolest-looking hair trend, then prepare yourself tomorrow for an announcement from the "Fashion Police" that all guys who wear their hair in a bun look like a doofus... "What goes up, must come down", as the old saying goes!
You have to NOT care about what others think about your appearance -- not to the point of no longer bathing or wearing clean clothes (which will gross out even your favorite aunt who normally unconditionally loves you!); but simply re. your preferred longer hair length, you become as steady as a rock about not compromising on that particular issue.
Only the young and the drop-dead gorgeous (AKA "Hollywood-handsome") can get away with literally ANYthing, as far as their individual "look" goes... The rest of us mere mortals have to be a bit braver, confident in our own masculinity enough to not give a damn what others think; but loving our long-haired dreams and goals enough to quietly continue "onward & downward"...
I'm totally OK with looking like a doofus -- and I know I do whenever I happen to look in the mirror, especially every time I put my hair back into a man-bun! (LOL)
But hey, I'm happy: whenever I let my hair down at the end of the day, I have something that a lot of timid guys will never get to experience... HAIR!

Hey all! Checking in with my update. Certainly loving this journey! Breaking a new length record every day ha ha. I'm excited to see these waves grow into a wild looking mane :)

Hey there, haven't posted in a while so I figured i'd take a pic
and share my progress. It's been about five years, other than a
few trims I did on my own, I haven't cut it at all.
The waves are crazy! lol
it would be nice to see you guys smile whether showing progress or starting out. Its a great adventure

I still hate this, but there's more of it than there was a month ago.

Hey, haven't been updating for a while. Here is my hair in 18 months from buzzcut now.
Still a bit wet from the shower in this picture.

Some might remember the discomfort I felt when it was announced 15 months ago at my company that they would be outsourcing much of accounting to Mexico and that my job would be gone. As longhairs, we have an added layer of concern when it comes to having to find a new job. I had grown my hair out while employed at this company and it had never been an issue. What would I find in the general job market?
Several in my department just wanted to get out ASAP due to the difficult situation of knowing your job will disappear. While I understood their reasoning, I made it clear that I wanted to stay as long as possible. I was given two extensions, the last of which would be due to expire at the end of this year. My boss actually came to me offering yet a third extension that would prolong things potentially for a few months more. I would have taken that despite the unpleasant feeling of being in limbo.
However, around this time, a position unexpectedly opened up in another department that isnÂ’t slated to be outsourced. I applied and was invited for an interview. I dressed up for that but, of course, didnÂ’t cut my hair. I was given an offer earlier this week which I accepted! Granted, the people in this other department have known me for many years but I still never worked for them. It would be unlikely that after seeing me with long hair for ten years here that they would make it an issue but you never know.
There will be quite a steep learning curve for me in my new position but itÂ’s much more pleasant going to work every day knowing that your job is secure for the time being. IÂ’m glad that I didnÂ’t have to be put in the position of needing to support my family and feeling the pressure that perhaps having long hair was having a detrimental effect on my chances.
I think this speaks to the overall easing of bigotry towards longhairs. So, if youÂ’re facing the prospect of needing to get hired while very much wishing to remain a longhair, take heart!

Hi, guys. Two years and counting!
I started with about three inches, so I think that makes me a slow grower. Oh well, I'm not in a hurry at this point.
Growing up, I loved long hair, but never thought it was an option for me. No men I knew had long hair, and even though I grew up in the 70s I don't remember seeing any long haired dudes on TV. Besides that, I was bullied for being effeminate, and I did everything in my power to appear "normal" and not get beat up.
I didn't consider growing my hair out until I discovered U2 in high school. It was 1988 and Bono had a glorious shoulder length cut.
I couldn't grow mine out, though, because I was in Catholic school. But as soon as I got to college, I began. And then cut it off six months later. That cycle would continue for the next twenty years.
Honestly, I think there are two reasons I've been able to grow my hair this time. #1, I'm a lot more comfortable with myself. Finally, I don't care what anyone thinks. I love my hair so much. That's all that counts. #2, you guys. Hearing your stories and seeing your progress and receiving support from this community has empowered me to keep going and growing.
So, thanks! Hope everyone is well.

Just checking in with my 18 month update !!Take care all.

Hello guys,
I'm 18 and I have been growing hair for about 7 years (my hair grows slowly, though) and recently I have started losing much more hair than usual, up to 30-40 hairs fall of my hair every day, while usually it would be 10 at most.
I think I'm suffering from hair loss, ahould I go see a dermatologist?
Pic related, though I haven't brushed it in 5 days.

A lot can be said on this topic; but, I'll try my best keep most of it brief (long-winded longhair that I can be sometimes - LOL)....
1) if you are a parent: please do NOT force your hair length aesthetics / preference on your children (attached photo is of me and my brothers, taken at Niagara Falls in the summer of 1965)
2) from one adult to another: although there is nothing wrong with diplomatically stating a hair style/length opinion or preference to one's wife/husband, partner/lover, family member, or best friend about what looks "best" on THEM; another person always has the right to do whatever they want with their own hair on their own head!
3) if you are a longhair "Wannabe": in most cases, if your goal is to grow your hair out looooong, then AVOID AS OFTEN AS POSSIBLE that evil word, "haircut!"
4) if you've just experienced a really bad "hack-job" on your hair (either by someone else, or you yourself), then you may want to consider the exact opposite of what I just said in #3... treating yourself to a very expensive and high-class hair stylist in order to repair the damage that was done 2will help you get "over" the bad memory, which will help you "move on"... (I speak from experience about this, as back in Y2K when I regrettably impulsively cut off my waist length hair to short, the most expensive trim I've ever paid for helped me emotionally re-start my 2nd hair growth journey)
5) if you are primarily very happy with your hair growth progress, but think you may want or "need" a little trim, my advise is: delay delay DELAY!!
6) if you are WORRIED about an upcoming hair appointment at a salon (or worse, at a barber shop), then my advise is: cancel cancel CANCEL!!!
7) if your goal is to achieve either an extreme length or terminal length, this is the easiest advise of all: just let it grow!!!!!

PS - In the attached pic, I'm the blonde kid on the far right.

I turned 36 years old yesterday and have officially hit the 17th month mark on my hair growth from a buzzcut. This board has given me the mindset and support to just be myself in the face of conflicting opinions. Thanks guys !

My Halloween Costume, lol , not really
I don't know how valid this is, but I thought it was interesting. Take it for what it is.
http://nativewarriors.us/the-truth-about-hair-and-why-natives-would-keep-their-hair-long/

This is how I have been styling my hair before I play a round of golf. Keeps the hair out of my face and I always have an extra fee if I break one at the tee box. To bad the season is coming to a close here :/

This is my hip length update, this time no smile - I'm sure there will be more smiles in the future :) Growing from June 2011, this should be month 52. I'm very lucky to have a quick growth rate. Regarding trimming, this is how I did it:
during first two years: not at all
after year two, after year three: once each
after year four: every 6 to 8 weeks, as I noticed the ends got damaged easier. I also had a phase where I didn't care so much about my hair (over the past year) because the cons of having lower back lenght hair annoyed me a bit. And I would allow it to get tangled and I would be impatient with the knots, which caused more damage. But reading and posting here makes me appreciate it much more!
So thanks everyone! And thank you for your nice comments after my first post!
Hi everyone - how are you?
I'm a +/- 8 year lurker. I'm growing my hair out for a second time (I'm at 8 months now) - The first time I got to 15 months and I had to cut it for work - this time I'm sticking to my guns.
I have exceptionally thick hair and it grows fast but it comes at a price - I get split ends despite using natural shampoos and conditioners - no heat and towel drying and basically obsessively following the rules.
I'm going to go for a split-end clean up but my hair is just getting long enough to tie to back (half tail) and I don't want to lose that option. In your experience - how long can you leave split ends before they start to slow growth. At the moment mine aren't terrible - but they're definitely getting worse.
My plan is to get to 1 year and then trim but I'm scared I'm slowing my growth by not removing the damage now. If I do trim now though, then I'm back in the awkward phase for an extra few months.
Thanks everyone :)

Yes. At my current age (62), I am definitely considered to be "too old" to have long hair now....
I am also:
"too Gringo" to eat Mexican food;
"too out-of-style" whenever I wear my favorite cowboy hat; and last but not least,
"too fat" to be able to do any Swing dancing anymore (please see my next pic in my follow-up post to this one....)

Is there some way to sort the posts by date/time? I just went through the FAQs and I could not find an answer. I have also tried the different thread options, but that does not seem to have a sort by date/time option. I was keeping track of the posts I had not read by the color of the post, as it would change color after I had opened it, but I cleared the history in my browser yesterday and now all the post titles are the same color again. Any suggestions?

hey guys I haven't been around here for quite a while (I'm sure some of you still remember me :p)!
I can't remember exactly when I started growing my hair out but it was somewhere around October 2 years ago and I'm exceptionally happy with how it has turned out so far, I've done absolutely nothing to it except for regular combing, and shampoo/conditioner every 3 days, no fancy oils or shampoos, nothing special (I don't know why girls worry so much!). I've gotten so many compliments from people about it (it's really thick and dense, and a little unruly I just brushed my hair before the pic). I've now realized that long hair is what I always wanted I was never particularly pleased with any of the short hairstyles I had tried out over the years, and I had tried everything, even mohawks.
Now I'm going to talk a little bit about something taboo on this board, I have an interview coming up for a job opportunity that is both very rare and has exceedingly high competition as it is a small industry in my country and hiring happens fairly rarely, It is a profession I have always wanted to do and it has taken me two years to get myself an interview.
In light of this I have talked to people in the industry and all but one have recommended I make it shorter, so I am strongly considering cutting some of my hair :( I have been putting it off as long as I can as I don't want to see it go but I'll probably have to do it in the next few days, trust me it is something I would really hate to it but in the bigger picture while hair can grow back, this career opportunity may never happen again. I'll go down to the barbers and get them to make it look professional while taking as little as possible off, hopefully I will only have to lose a year or so of growth. No idea what kind of medium length hair styles look professional, does anyone have any suggestions as to what I should do? it would be greatly appreciated
I have all intentions to grow it back once I pass the interview. Also as a metal head the hair is essential counterweight when headbanging! :D
Thanks guys!

Hi guys
This is currently me.....after several attempts tongrow my hair longer....I am very happy with how it is progressing...and after a cut in April to shape it I am now leaving it alone.
Been checking out everyone's updates and posts and love this forum...it really is a special site for folk who love their hair long.
Cheers

Hey guys :) I have been battling a naturally oil scalp during my hair growth process. I typically have to wash at least every other day it seems. Yesterday I purchased some new balancing shampoo that my wife's hair stylist mentioned for my scalp type/hair type. I want to be able to go at least 2 days in between washing. Here is a hair pic today at work after using it yesterday morning. I am at 17 and a half months growth. Yay ! Take care all.

My hair is beginning to grow back, thank goodness. A little bit longer than a month ago. Weirdly enough, I think that my cutting it made it blonder...not sure how that works lol.

Hi again Hairy People,
I recently read a few comments here that some of you don't know how to make a "manbun" for yourselves. It's actually quite easy! The longer your hair is, however, the more practice it will take to get fast at doing it. My hair length is just slightly past my belt-line; but if your hair is mid-back length or shorter, it won't be as involved as the tutorial I'm presenting here.
This pic shows the end result, the so-called "manbun" -- notice how I prefer to have this bun placed rather LOW on the back of my head, centered near the nape of the neck; but if you'd prefer to have your bun placed higher up on top of your head, no worries, as the technique is still the same.
Please click on "STEP 1: Twisting Your Hair..." in order to learn about how I've been doing my own interpretation of the now famous "manbun" successfully for many years now (long before hair-buns on a guy were very popular)... Happy bun-making!

After about sixteen months, this is where I stand. It's pretty amazing that I actually have to take these from the back now to show the real amount of length :)

can now tuck tail in jean's back pocket
Here is my 2-year snapshot. It isn't much longer than the photos I sent in about a month ago. I read about the successes of some, and the fleeting encounters with a pair of scissors by others. I have managed to resist the suggestions to move from hair farming to hair gardening!
Another foot in another couple of years... I'll write it out in full: Long locks for ever!.
Here's how I was in February 2014:
Anthony

Assembled a collage of my hair growth in the last 17 months for fun and to get a visual on growth speed. Take care guys ! :)
Found this on YouTube and thought it was inspirational for guys with long hair and guys who may be thinking of growing their hair long. This guy has approximately knee-length hair and attributes much of his success as an actor to his having long hair.

Just got home today from a seven day cruise to the Bahamas. Kept my hair in a pony the whole time, very hot & humid. When at Nassau it was 109' degrees. This is a photo of my Wife & I looking over our cabins balcony on the ship.
I was reading the comments for Bloom County on Facebook and noticed this;
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx OH the man bun....it just needs to go away.

That does it...........i'll have to wear my hair in a bun more often especially where this comment has 146 likes.

After years of wearing my hair quite long, I decided to change it up and try a "shorter" hairstyle, "shorter" for me being a bit below shoulder length instead of at my waist, where it had been.
You can see the result in the photo. This is much easier to take care of and I've gotten many compliments on it, but I realized that I just feel more like myself with much longer hair. So I'm coming back, and next time I feel tempted to go short I'll remember how this felt. You guys can look forward to longer hair from me again in the future.
Incidentally, I forgot how ridiculously thick my hair is without length to weigh it down. I look like a blonde umbrella.
Hey guys! 7 months from #2 on the sides and 1 inch up top.
Pardon the 3 day no shampoo greasiness and bed head. My hair definitely feels much healthier today than after 1 or 2 days with no shampoo. The last 2 pics are from another day where my hair was cleaned ha ha. Currently 4-4.25 inches on top, 3.5 inches on sides.
Typically I wear it like the second to last pic, the side part or an Alice band. Do the curly bangs look bad when the fringe is somewhat side swept over the forehead?
Id appreciate any tips or comments! Cheers

Sorry I haven't been around the site much lately, many happenings in my life as of recent. All that aside, I have a 2 year update to show y'all!!
Went to church this morning. My pastor complimented my ponytail, said it looks great. Still a year or two before my hair reaches the length I desire - the tail is just below the shoulder blades now.

Its been bout one year without a trim...im hoping by the end of December/beginning of January to be able to trim the back to get to one length at the shoulders. this pic is a few months old

View from back

Well last week,9/30,I turned 53.Still no grey in my hair & still hoping for waist length one day.But I think I have reached my terminal length.

Here is a pic of my hair tied up high for the first time since growing my hair out close to 17 months ago. Take care all !
... happy spring: ( southern hemisphere ) / happy autumn: ( northern hemisphere ) ...
Hi everybody
a friend of mine invited me to participate in the military reenactment. sure long hair is not the first thing that comes to mind when you think about the army :)
anayway we were having fun, I decided to share a couple of pics with you. It is me trying on military uniform
I was visiting Planet Fitness this morning for my daily workout and noticed something interesting on the tv.
They are warning men with man buns to not have them too tight. Apparently some are pulling them too tight and suffering hair loss or hair damage.
Lets see......guys on this site have warned about that for how many years now? (Probably many years before I discovered this site.)

9-month tied up
When I have my shower each day but when I am not washing my hair, I do a ponytail, and then twist the hairband a second time, pull the hair through, but only half way to shorten the ponytail and leave a loop caught in the hairband. Obviously I do this for purely practical reasons - to keep my hair dry.
I have sometimes seen this loop and short tail worn by people in public. Is there a name for this particular "bun" or whatever?
Anthony
I wore my hair naturally Sunday and with my bangs down yesterday (sides tucked behind the ears). For the past few months I've been a) slicking it back, b) wearing an Alice band (last week or 2) or b) wearing a hat. Maybe this kind of held the waviness back?
Yesterday and today it was wavy like crazy! I like it though, it's just hard to tame in the bang area, they tend to curl instead of lay flat.

I haven't been here in a very long time and figured I'd say hello and ask how you guys are doing? I see some old faces and new members on here which is awesome. As far as you know, I had my lower back length hair cut to my jaw length area because it got too damaged and wanted to start over since I learned how to take care of long hair better. Here's a new update of my hair length which it's to my shoulder blades now.
9-months of hair-growth so far.

Had to learn how to make a not-messy bun with my hair for color guard (Debut show today!)
Only needed an extra hair tie and two bobby pins to bring this about, luckily. Feels so much different than the shows I did in the winter season, where I could barely pull my bangs into a top knot.

Just wanted to post an update for you guys. I am officially 16 months and one week into my hair growth journey. Waiting patiently for my front hairs to catch up in length. Take care guys !

Hi there!
It's been a long time since my last update on this board.
Since my time is a bit short now, my hair still goes on and I can finally tie all my hair without tucking the bangs behind the ears since the last month (It took longer than I thought, but I'm happy now).
Also, I was thinking of getting a trim someday, because it's getting harder to comb my hair without getting any tangles along the way, even when it's wet (Tangles more on the ends)
Anyway, hope all of your guys are doing well!

Hi, everyone. So I think I'm almost at the two year mark. Hard to remember when I actually decided to start growing my hair.
I think it's finally past shoulder length!
I saw this article on manbuns in the New York Times.

Been a rough year on my hair.....7 months in Minnesota and now 3 months in Texas. Humidity give this desert rat serious "frizzies".
But at my age I am happy to have enough left to frizz...giggle
I have something of a sensitive question to ask, and hope some of the experts here might offer helpful advice. I am 29 years old and have worn wavy brown hair that I have enjoyed wearing long (to just below my shoulders) since high school. At 19 or 20 I noticed that my temples had moved back somewhat, but in the decade since then they've not moved, and so I assumed I was just coming into my mature hairline (which was not a bad hairline at all).
Fast forward to 2013. Without going into too much detail, I suffered that fall a major and life-threatening medical crisis that, in the short term, left me unable to work. Following the near-death experience, I became depressed and began having panic attacks that were quite severe, so I was prescribed three psychiatric medications to stabilize my mood, reduce anxiety, and ward off depression. I also drank heavily in this period in a misguided effort to cope with my reduced endurance, chronic fatigue, depression, and major, rapid weight gain.
In around March 2014, I noticed that the part of my hair looked very slightly wider than it previously had. Between March and November it didn't appear to move but didn't appear to repair itself, so in panic in November 2014 I went out and bought S5 cream, which I used until I noticed, last week, that in the area where I'd been applying it the hair had noticeably thinned.
Now I'm not sure what to do. I'm 29; could this just be male-pattern baldness? Then again, I went through all of these things. What are your thoughts? I'm seeing a dermatologist this week and will be sure to share her observations.
What do you think of the kind of style where your hair is a bit long from the front, but from the back, even longer?
Perfect example of this was Billy Duffy. Back when his hair was long, of course.
Can be seen on this interview from 2:30 onwards, when he plays with hair and tosses it to show the length from behind.

Hey guys !! Checking in with an update :) Take care my friends.

I was lucky enough to be at the LHC London meet on Saturday. Ashke took a pic of my braid waves - the first time my hair has been loose for 7 weeks other than once every day or two to redo the braid. Some wonderful manes there, so I was inspired and envious by turns.

As promised, at the game with my son.

Hi All, so last week I discovered that I can pull back all my hair into a top knot or bun now. To me that is a big milestone, especially with the hot weather we've been having in So Cal. Hair is about 6 inches now some of the curls are loose but they stay if there is not a strong wind.
Also, there is no progress with my manager threatening to take me to HR over my hair. I actually haven't even seen him in about 6 weeks, as he is on some special assignment.

Hello, everyone,
Used to be on this board about 5 years ago. My hair was pretty much past my shoulder. I've cut it on and off, but no shorter than my collarbone. I've decided to let it keep growing again. I just felt odd being in my 40's and still having long hair. However, I do feel more like myself when i have long hair...It's currently a bit past my shoulders. It's wavy and gets curly on humid or rainy days. I do have alot more greys this time around. Currently used lemon juice this summer to lighten it up to a dirty blonde. It's nice to be back and read everyone's comments and advice. Thank you...Dee

Hi,
it is two years already that I'm occasionally looking into this hyper-board, now that I've started posting I reckon I aught to present myself properly.
I'm from Italy, but I left my country in 2004. After 8 months in Japan (some funny hairstyles coming probably from that), I moved in France in 2005, and I've been living there since.
I'm slim but with a great appetite, I'm eating a lot of Mediterranean food, which includes pasta, vegetables, meat, cheese, with oil of olive everywhere in abundance ;-)
My hair used to be short-to-very-short (almost military style) until 2003. Then I let it grow to 40-50 cm, at a period when I started to be unhappy of life as single and when I was "ready" for making a family: I reckon that the two changes are linked.
All that stopped one day in winter 2009/2010, when I radically reverted back to short. I am not very proud of that move, I was in rage after a serious quarrel with my (then) partner, the haircut was crying loud my psychological distress.
Beginning 2013 we definitely split, and sure enough I decided to find again my roots, starting from my longhair. This photo is from this morning, and it looks like the "optimum" I was used to in 2005-2006... except for white hairs that are invariably increasing in number with age (I'm now 42).
Beginning 2014, another big turn: I've stopped washing my hair. This was the end of a 6 month transition. My scalp was sometimes itching, I suppose because of the hard water in the region of Paris where I live now. I started washing infrequently, once per week or every other week. Rinsing with vinegar, which is supposedly good for the keratin in the hair. Finally, I was asking myself what actually shampoo is good for, whether I could space washing every three or for weeks. Or maybe not at all? I googled for "consequences of not washing hair" and to my surprise I discovered people living for years happily like that. I remembered then that my grand-aunt was doing the same (with my mother laughing at her as an old fool): finally that was actually making sense for me.
Today the only cleaning procedure I am using is purely mechanical (scritching, combing, preening). I do not see any reason to revert back: my hair and scalp are doing fine. It actually works very well for me.
Voilà , that's all for now.
Lucio
Hi Everybody
It has been a long time, and I hope all has been well with the MLHH and members in having great success growing out their hair.
Perhaps many of you in CA. are indeed actually aware of these laws? Thought I would post it anyway in case you were not.
How often over the past 3 years I find myself thinking how fortunate I was to have been born when I was.
With all good wishes-
Justin~

Hi everybody,
I apologize for not being very active on the board lately. I have been somewhat busy with doctor's appointments and whatnot. They just told me my heart is only working about half as efficient as it should. Definitely not good news to me at only 49 years old! But I digress.
I have been following you all's updates though! You guys are making great progress and I am going to try to reply to all I can! Keep up the great work and I look forward to your future updates! Here is a photo of my current hair length. I don't really keep up with the time frame of growing anymore though.
Take care and please be well everyone!
Ted

Hi folks,
I was again visiting friends at the beach and they have a bigger mirror..
...so here is the yearly pic...slow but sure... I'm still growing..no cuts since 2009..
Lurking, somtimes posting, wishing everyone success ..those who know me, and those I haven't met yet..... take care..

Hello LongHairs!
I have a dilemma. Is it time to break out the headbands? http://m.imgur.com/pu9sXOz,TUhlJj8,awetbDH
My cowlick makes my bangs curl overtop and it looks quite awkward to me ha ha. I'd appreciate any tips or advice.
I've been using paste but it doesn't hold my bangs up any longer than 3 hours
Other than this I am loving having longer hair (longer than I'm used to)

Just got back from a 2 week camping/hiking trip with some friends right before school is gonna start. My hair did real well on the trip. Everyone was teasing me at the start saying how it was gonna be messy and hard to take care of etc. But I just wore it in a braid in the day and combed it out at night and it was super easy and a few days in everyone was laughing because my hair looked better than my friends with short hair.
Just wanted to say hi.
Here's a pic from right after I got back. Not too bad since I haven't washed for 2 weeks and got real sweaty and dirty.
Hi everybody
just want to share some pix of me taken over a couple of last weeks
greetings from Slovakia
Hey guys,
I am generally a skeptic about most claims that have no evidence to back them up. As Carl Sagan said, “Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.” Anyway, I found another scientific article about hair, so I thought I would share it. The article is from the Journal of Clinical and Aesthetic Dermatology and I found it on the NIH website (see link below). It is a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study of the oral supplement Viviscal Maximum Strength. This particular article was a study on women, after similar studies in men “have demonstrated the efficacy of Viviscal (the product used in these studies was originally marketed under the brand name Hairgain® [Parexel Medstat AS, Lillestrøm, Norway])”.
The article is somewhat technical and boring, so if you do not want to read the entire article I would suggest reading the Abstract section at the beginning of the article and the Results section about halfway down.
Please note that the study was funded by the company that produces Viviscal, “Funding for this study was provided by Lifes2good, Inc., Chicago, Illinois.” This immediately set off my skeptical alarm. Nevertheless, it is a scientific study, so, all things considered, draw your own conclusions. At least it carries more weight on my scale than anecdotal claims. I have not yet decided if I will try it, as it is rather expensive and I’m not sure it would help me. I know it will not grow hair on my bald pate, however, it might give me more hair to work with where my hair does grow.
Also, I would love to know if anyone has used this product and what kind of results you saw. I noticed that the subject was brought up here back in April, but the two responders had not tried it. If I decide to try it I will let you know what happens, if anything.
All the best,
Marx

Hi All, been meaning to post a newer pic that shows my hair. Went to the Carolina Panthers preseason game against the Patriots with my son who took this pic. I'll try to post another with my son in our seats.
Hope everyone is well
I heard the bun is now a popular hairstyle for men. I guess more men are growing their hair out for this reason. I'm not sure how long the "Man Bun" will stay popular, though.
Hi people!
This is a message from a former member from the board .
Some of you remember me and some others may not.
I used to be Dave , a fellow from Argentina . A few months ago I came out as transgender and I am currently transitioning and living full time as a female since March 2015.
Just to give you all a little update on my life:
- I came out to my family , friends and work.
- I started HRT (Hormones Replacement Therapy) to transform my body.
- I got plastic surgery back in May 2015 to match my gender identity with my body ( I only had a boob job and a nose job done at the same procedure)
- I got my name and sex marker legally changed so now I have a female government ID ( The law in Argentina allows trans people to change their sex marker and name without having to go through a Judge authorization, its a simple paperwork and is free of charge).
Oh, and I have a boyfriend too!
All these changes happened to me in only 6 months and I still can't believe all that I have gone through.
I know this may sound like a little bit cliché but when people say that your dreams come true if you fight for them, believe me that's true.
Here's a current picture of me where you can see my hair length (sorry for the duck face) . At the back is mid back length and the front is past my boobies.
I hope you all are doing ok.
Hugs & Kisses to all . Those who know me and those wo don't,
Luciana.

This is what my hair looks like now after 11 years of growth.

Finally hit the two year mark. I never thought I would enjoy having long hair as much as I do. Here is to another two years!
Which male singer in your opinion has the best, or longest, hair?

I am thankful that at 47, I have the hair to grow!! However, wearing a hat most the time blows!! In no time soon, this wonky stage we disappear. Any tips from the former awkward stagers would be most appreciated!! I am completely bucking the norm at my employment by growing my hair out. It is a pseudo militaristic organization. Too short to tie back, too long to hide. Huzzah!

Front side of my other 19 month update post, it didn't post at the beginning of the month with my other one for whatever reason. I'll probably update again at around 21 months. The sides stick out.. Not sure what to do with it. Whatever.

Hi everyone, my name's Hugo and i'm near 4 months of hair growth after a buzzcut. I have thick, fluffy sorta dry hair that tends to curl up and become very dry at the ends. I told my mom and sister that I want my hair past my shoulders and they said it wouldn't look the way i'd want it to because of my hair type. They also said it wouldn't weigh itself down with said length because my hair is so fluffy. What do you more experienced guys have to say about this? Are they correct?

Hey guys,
I just wanted to share my lucious head of hear with all you fine folks. So far I've had lots of jealous girls AND a homeless guy tell me it looks great ^^ I've really enjoyed looking at all the progress pics, good to see that I'm not alone!
The back: http://i.imgur.com/i40aUec.jpg (not sure how to post 2 pics)

Just a current shot from behind showing my wavy hair at close to 16 months of growth. Happy friday!!!

Tried something new for my hair. Was received well on a night out in my college town. I don't think it will be a go to hairstyle for me, but maybe I will use it every now and again.

Hey
I did'nt post any photo since my stay in Alicante; here my hair after a shower, I kept it drying naturaly so it's a little bit wavy.
Regards.
Jordi

We've probably all been there sometime
On our way from Steens Mountain (extremely cool mtn range, a very long ways from everywhere), we stopped at Fields for gas ("We break the rules here, go ahead and pump your own gas"[1]) and very good handmade milkshakes, while waiting for the owner (of Fields entire) to ring us up, she asked "How long is your hair?!" to which my girlfriend asked "Which one of us?" and I pulled the stick out of my hair, and while the goggling and sputtering was going on, she continued "Actually we are about the same length but he's taller." Heh!
[1] Employees must pump gas in Oregon. Of course, an Oregon State Trooper pulls in for a milkshake as the gas is being pumped...he was not concerned...whew!

It's been a long time since I've posted an update. I'm one of the older guys here (64 years) who still enjoys his hair long. This shot is a recent one. My hair is about two inches from my waist, as of this post. Cheers.
Steve

8 months of hair growth.
Hey guys - I came across this article from the National Institutes of Health about hair cleaning. I found it helpful, so I thought I would share it (see link below).
-Marx (BambooForYou)

Hello Hairy People,
Not much to report that's "new" re. any recent significant hair growth, since my hair pretty much reached its natural terminal length a few years ago. Other than occasionally using the "Search & Destroy" method of chasing after individual split ends, in June I decided to ask my partner to trim off a couple of inches from the bottom, since the V-shape that I prefer looked more like a "W" (LOL); but it has basically grown back to the same length it was pre-trim already.
This pic was taken by Bill and Larry when they visited my rose garden that I take care of at work. Sorry about the bottom of my hair being cut off by the photo; but I will post another pic that shows the full length in a minute or 2...
"Onward & Downward!" (or, in my case: "onward & onward", since it refuses to grow down any further - LOL)

Here's a pretty fun op about men with "man buns" at Disneyland. It's apparently an instagram account dedicated to men with man buns at Disneyland.
It seems like there are a whole lot of young longhairs out there now.

I've been watching this site for a while now but never posted anything. Haven't had a haircut since decades so I belong here. I was born as a longhair ;) and trim it myself when I think that it is necessary.

I'm liking where my hair is right now lol.
Hey guys,
IÂ’ve been reading the posts on this site for a few weeks now. Although IÂ’m usually not much of a group joiner I thought I might like to post, or reply to posts once in a while. So, I thought it might be a good idea to introduce myself before I start participating. I had long hair back in the 70s when I was in my early 20s living in a commune in California (those were some great times!). I ended up cutting my hair and wearing it short for employment reasons. I spent part of my life working in corporate America, then decided (as part of my mid-life crisis) to go into nursing. I have been working as a Registered Nurse ever since then. I also own and operate a bamboo farm in SW Florida and I am an avid photographer and run a photography group in the local area.
At the end of last year it dawned on me that there was no longer any reason for me to continue to have short hair, as I would be turning 65 years old in 2015 and I am planning on retiring before long. Needless to say, I stopped cutting my hair at the beginning of 2015 and plan on letting it grow long again. I wonÂ’t bore you with any photos yet, as my hair has only been growing for about 7 months (and I had it very short before). Once I think it is respectably long IÂ’ll post some photos. Anyway, I just wanted to give you a little background and let you all know that I am really glad to have found this group and I hope that I can make a positive contribution.
All the best,
BambooForYou
I know there are cat lovers among our group so I thought I'd share photos of the new additions to my family.
One of our two cats died in June at almost 17 years old. His death left not only a hole in our hearts but he was also very good friends with our Siamese cat who is 9. After his death, the Siamese would howl most nights to the point of waking me up. He definitely was not happy being an only cat.
We began our search for another cat soon after the one cat's passing. It was harder than I expected to find available kittens and the process involves a lot more red tape than it used to. We did locate a pair of kittens, brothers, being cared for at a nearby shelter. Their caretaker really pushed for us to take both as they were very close to each other. I explained that we would only be able to take one given our space limitations.
She brought both over for us to choose. My wife spent 5 minutes with them and whispered to me that we should just take both! It didn't take much convincing as they were both super friendly and adorable. So, we're now up to 3 cats.
Our 9 year old cat has now fully accepted them and it only took a few days so we're happy about that. The howling at night has stopped.
This is a picture of them when they were about 8 weeks old shortly after being rescued. That's Billy on top and Bodhi below.
This was taken shortly before they came to us, Billy on the left and Bodhi on the right:
and here they are on my lap. They love to be held and are extremely affectionate:
The post isn't actually totally off topic as I've found that they are very interested in playing with the ends of my long hair while we're sitting on the couch. :)
I just flew in from Richmond Virginia and boy are my arms tired.
This past weekend we had the annual national encampment for our
civil war group in Richmond Virginia. There were a number of
guys with long hair, mine is still the longest. (It's also longer than all the women in ladies auxiliary.)
I love going into these things with the expectation i'll have the longest hair in the encampment. In past years there were 4 or 5 guys with long hair. This year there were only two. I'm also finding that having long hair is a great way to get recognized.

Hi all,
It's been a while since I posted on here. I started letting my hair grow out in April of last year. I've trimmed the sides and back twice as I was starting to get a mullet look (not a good look for me lol). I've mostly embraced the silver and gray but I have really started to like the curls and waves. I'm curious to see how long it will get before it reaches terminal lengths. I can't wait for it :)
Long Hairs yes we are and if one of you might be a computer geek I need you're help resetting the default on my E-mail software.
I am using Outlook Express for my e-mail it is where I store all my addresses and I like it so I really don't want to change. My desk top is really old but working fine (sort of anyway) for my needs with XP. Outlook Express posts Facebook comments to the threads that I am following. The default opens into Explorer and until about a month ago had been opening the entire thread so that I could check to see if a comment was needed of and for my thoughts no matter what they might be. Then things changed dramatically for nearly a month now what shows up is the top of the thread only no comments and all that I know of the comments is the latest entry so I can only guess where the thread is leading. On Sunday last (8/23/2105) I tried a new approach and I took the address from Explorer and pasted it into Google Chrome where I have been already used to my facebook daily dose of whatever and there in Google Chrome was the entire thread beginning to end so my need is to change how Outlook Express defaults to Google Chrome and by passes Explorer since microsoft is no longer supporting this system and I cannot really afford the expense of a new updated Desktop computer. thanks in advance if this is your expertise Silverthorne

Hey guys :) just wanted to post a quick update on my own hair growth journey. I am officially 15 months and 1 week in. Take care all !
I'm just a month shy of 2 years from my last cut, and I'm still going. Here's a couple of quick shots with my webcam.
Hoping you are all having a great summer.

A question here for those into skinny jeans.
What is the difference between skinny jeans
and skin tight jeans?
Gentlemen: if any of you would be so kind as to post a recent or even old photo of yourself with a nicely coiffed long long pony tail (at least half way between the male nipples to the navel. We have been asked that the photo have some body to the hair curled at the ends and reasonably styled with the tail over your left shoulder showing slightly curly (not straight) body of the hair as long as possible would be great. It is not your face or body that is required the hair will be used as a sitting for a painting portrait that I am having done for a show coming up soon. I am re posting this request at the other Long Hair thread. We will be looking for dirty blond to brown natural color or Red Blond to brown again natural color Again it is the hair that is to be portrayed not you the person. Thanks for your help
Hey Bros,
I would like to ask your advise. I would like to use olive oil to enhance hair growth and health. What do I do?
Thanks!
Raymond

Oops! I should have typed it: "long HAIRS!"
Oh, well. At least this beach house is cheap (probably free!) -- and just look at that million dollar view!
- Ken
Well, I used to be known as the man with the ponytail, but since I started wearing a braid (plait in British English) a few months ago, I have started to be identified by that.
I now wear it all the time, as it's convenient, and comfortable, and most people have been very positive, which is great.
Anyone else identified by their hair?

Hey,
I've been lurking here for a long time and decided to make an actual post. As the caption on the photo says I just got my first hair trim in 3 years and decided to share the picture with you guys.
I happened to catch a Dixie Plate commercial on tv today that featured a family sitting around the dinner table dicussing family history. The father had hair down to maybe midback and the son had a top knot. It's good to see a long hair depicted as an average family man and not part of a chain gang!
Bruce
Here's a link to the commercial:

Hello everyone! I've looked at this site a few times (definitely more) and thought to post something. Decided to grow the hair out after three job interviews and didn't get the job. It was then I shrugged my shoulders and grow the hair out. Good news is that I'm working, although it's only for the summer. The pics were taken in the employees restroom (yes it need repairs).
There were times, even a few days ago about cutting it, other times felt like keeping it. Overall, learned that growing hair is like having a relationship with the self?
What do I know...

Great website!

Hey everyone!
5 months in on my hair journey to shoulder length
I was wondering if you all have tried MSM or gelatin for hair growth?
I have been taking fish oil, a multivitamin and biotin, but I hear MSM or gelatin is good too.
Thanks!
Hello all...
Im in the awkward stages of hair growth (1 year) I wash my hair every other day, just regular shampoo and occasionally conditioning. Conditioning every time I wash is too much for my hair.
To the point......If I need my hair look nice and doesn't necessarily need washing, I'll dunk my head underneath the bathtub faucet, rinse it down, dry it off and style. The problem is after it dries it looks really dull, matted down and my scalp itches later that day. Is there something I can use to rememdy this problem? Really annoying and a bad look for long hair. Even if I washed it last night say and wake up in the morning to style, it gets dull, flat and itchy.
Getting my knee replaced Monday. May be incognito for a while. I'll keep the hair growing.
Considering how young I am and how short my hair is, I feel like the black sheep here. My hair is thick, though

Hello there,
It's been a long time I posted here.
I made a short film and I figured out you'd like to watch it 'cause I let my hair flow in it. Namely a part where I am at a mountain.
Here it is
Enjoy.

Hey all!
Do you guys have any tips on the awkward stage? I just started using FX surf paste because my bangs curl up onto my forehead and get annoying ha ah. Other than that I've been growing it with ease. I'm just trying to be prepared for the upcoming months when the mullet phase sets in. I recently bought some elastic headbands to keep it out of my face when working out (even though I don't need it yet).
Please do help!

I am 2 weeks away from my 15 month mark. Just wanted to post a pic from work on this awesome Friday. Have a great weekend all !!
I've noticed recently that a couple days after washing my hair, that my scalp gets itchy and gets really bumpy and uneven. I guess the itchiness has something to do with oil build-up, but I have no idea where the weird bumpiness comes from. Then, after washing and conditioning my hair, I get absolute tons of flakey skin in my hair. Then, they disappear after a day or two. My first impression is dandruff, but when I had short hair, I never had a rough, bumpy, uneven scalp, and my hair was always filled with small flakes. The ones I get now are huge, and are obviously skin. Does anyone know what this is? Is this normal? Is there something wrong with my scalp?

Washed my hair this morning. Thought I'd share the result!
Thanks to James K and Little Bird Long Hair for the inspirations to finally let my hair grow long. I do NOT regret it one bit!

Hi all, its been awhile since I posted, just not much I have to say I guess. So I work for a pretty big corporation that is pretty stuck in the early first half of the 1900s when it comes to appearance. However since they are public they have all the HR rules and "diversity" things of a modern corporation. So the rules relevant to my situation are specific male hair rules, which are:
"Hairstyles and hair color should be worn in a businesslike manner. Hair should not cover any part of the eyes, and should not extend below the upper half of the ear,
nor below the top of the shirt collar in the back."
I have the last 2 weeks used really strong pomade and a hair tie to do a small bun for work. My last manager seemed fine with this, but he just left and the new one does not like the way I do my hair. My current manager seems to hate ponytails, but is willing to overlook the obvious rule violation of my hair extending below my shirt collar. As I slick back my hair sometimes and leave it loose at the back. The current manager pulled me into his office and said he is going to have HR decide this issue.
So, what I am looking for is advice on how to convince the HR rep to allow me to pull my hair back in a neat bun, to be "businesslike", which to me is a very vague term. This will keep the hair off my ears and neck. I am thinking a gender discrimination approach, as women have a separate specific rule to tie up hair in certain job types (but don't think that will fly that well unless you all see it differently), or a simple argument that pulling my hair back is "businesslike" as that is how I wear my hair for business and fits into the hard rules of hair "extending" past ears and shirt collar.
If you got through all that... What do you all think?

Just a few summer pics from my climb/hike I did Saturday on Mt Rainier. I headed up with a fellow friend and longhair and he took these pics of me. The day was great! as you can see. We hiked up to a point at 7800 ft. It was an epic hike and wind and sweat make for messy hair! LOL

Awesome! For all the years I've been growing my hair out I'd never thought to look to see if others had things to say on the subject. My sincere Thanks to whoever started this and all who support it!
It's been 18 years pretty much this week since I had a military style haircut, trimmed only a couple times and gave that up as bad habit.
Am going to try to post a Pic from last summer when my wife and I took a smoke break while riding the Blue Ridge Parkway in western NC. I will get a better pic up soon (closer-up), when I get home off the road, I am a trucker.
I saw an article about a young boy donating his knee length hair. While I'm disappointed that he cut it off, it was thoughtful of him to donate it since he did cut it. The link to the article should be included.

Hey, gang! Haven't posted an update photo in a while. Last week, my wife Clara nad I took a brief winter holiday in Cairns, in the north of Queensland. She took the photos I'll attached to this and several followup posts. As ou can see, one day I was wearing a plait and on one day a ponytail.
The interesting thing is that Clara even took the photos. Maybe it means that she's warming to my wearing long hair...or perhaps just resigned to it? Time will tell...
Don
Had a compliment on my hair this AM at church. Was told it's looking great after getting past the awkward stage. My ponytail is almost a foot long now.

Nice to see a long haired werewolf in the 2014 movie "Wolves" with Jason Momoa as the head werewolf. He also sports a bun as a werewolf also. Corny movie but any movie with a long haired wolfman cant be all bad,lol
Ok so i been going my hair out for about 5,6 months and im going thru the weird stage my hair on the sides is looking really bad , and i don't know how often i should be shampooing , and just hope someone can help

Posted an 18 month update roughly 1 month ago. Here is the 19 month update!

My last update was in the beginning of this year so time for an update.
Still don't obsess much about my hair just let it grow and enjoy it.
I started using conditioner recently. I'm in Texas for my work and my hair doesn't like this climate. Didn't need conditioner in Holland.
I also started wearing a tail most of the time, when it was shorter I could wear it loose but it bothers me to much when sporting or working.
I wasn't planning on growing it very long this time around but growing my hair is addictive so who knows what the future brings.
Vincent

I originally posted here last year when I was growing out my hair. It's gotten much longer and I am very happy with the length. I usually wear it in a half pony tail of sorts, but am wearing it down in the pictures. Please share any advice for maintenance or styling you may have.

Been growing for five years with no end in sight.

This is it, and like I said, it's a cliche pose, etc, but it's about my hair. Lol

An actual one this time, not the foldover sock bun style. It doesn't hold well, with the hairs on the very bottom of my head as well as the sides near my face falling away after some running up and down the steps to get the mail. However, as a first attempt at a bun that uses only 1 hair tie, I love it!
It also highlights the streak in my hair, which is always awesome :)
Today is really hot where I live. So, with being tired of hair on my neck, I decided to try a top-knot to get it off the neck. I like the feel of it. Most of the hair except for odd-ball whisps is long enough for it to be in the top-knot. I do not know that I would go out with it like this, would probably go out dressed as a samurai only like this in the area where I live. However, costume party season is a few months off so... Even with the hair on top of the head, the hair is still long enough that some of it barely reaches the nape. The hair on the back of the head reaches the middle to lower portions of the shoulder blades. It is nice to finally start getting some length. I am at the point with the hair on the front of the head where it is almost long enough to push behind the shoulders. I cannot wait for this, eating will be easier again and I will not have to put the hair in a tail in order to eat anymore.
Hope all are well.
I know the pose is cliché, Lol. I just thought it was good pic of my hair.

Hey guys here is my new "Selfie" that I took on 22 July 2015 at 3 PM. I had spent the day out in my garden. a whole quarter acre behind me from the deck. I have been trying to find ways to have easy maintenance just to busy to really bother it so much as my main is growing towards terminal length. So it has been a learning experience using no shampoo for over 2 weeks. This morning I did condition with Aveda (One Squirt) worked into wet hair and left in while I showered then rinsed with cool water. I have been really turned on using Coconut oil organic from the grocery up the street (about the size of a dime) warmed with my body heat in my hands after using a wide toothed comb and towel dried. I just shake my head and the curls come back as my hair dries. This picture is 8 hours after I had showered and 1 hour after working out in the sun in my garden.
I was told today, for those of us who may have one or two gray/
white hairs, that if they start looking yellowish it is
probably due to minerals in our water we wash with and that the
way to remove the yellowing is to wash nor rinse your hair with
vinegar.
Anybody ever hear of this and if so does it work?
I would like to hear anybodies opinion about this.
Just wanted to share some pics with you guys from my older sisters wedding last weekend! It was an amazing time, and I got a lot of positive reactions to my long hair.

Hey guys! So it's been almost two years, and I'm getting close to my mid-back goal (well a year away probably).
Normally it's pretty straight, but today I wore it scrunched up in a bun until it dried, then let it down. Got a little wave going!
Thanks for being supportive. I've been practicing my braiding for a while and finally decided to do it in public. People didn't really care which was cool. I even wore it with my friends. A few of them teased me a bit but nothing real mean or anything. I think Ill start doing it more often now. Its nice to have people say it looks good on here and say don't worry about what others think, so thanks.

I'm into lord of the rings and other fantasy stuff and have been wanting to try braids for a while. I can only do little ones with pieces of my hair very well right now but I was practicing just normal ones while watching TV this afternoon and my sister put it in a french braid. I like it, but I definitely don't have the guts to wear it like that when I'm out with friends or at school or work or anything right yet. Just wanted to show it off I guess before I take it down.

Hey guys! I have been growing my hair and come here sometimes and decided to post today. I am 16 and have been growing my hair for about 2 years and want to keep growing it to waist length. I took a pic of it down, but it is still kind of wet from just washing it, since I feel like it is finally getting looonnnggg!

Not a whole lot of progress but still holding on,lol

It's been 7 months! I am very pleased with how much my hair has grown in such a short amount of time. Thanks to anyone who has commented on my previous posts, I am doing my best to get back to you all and participate on this forum. Enjoy your day!
I've let it go for 5 years. I haven't gotten quite the luxurious length that you younger guys do, but it's all right.

Hey!
Thought i'd share my progress in 14 months, coming from bald :)
Guys I need help I brought home a furry tonight left my bike downtown and wouldn't let the young man be on his own. He has dreads and he hates them and so do I. What do I do to help him get them out and he had really long hair. Where do I start and what can I use to take them out he is gorgeous and sweet came to me as a furry in costume and his energy sucked me into his ora and wouldn't let go you Gay guys know what I mean. WOW and I have been virginal for over 5 years. HELP I COULD NOT LET THIS ONE GET AWAY.

4.5 months growth. Started in February with a 1" buzz. Had to cut it for career a long time ago. Completely excited to be able to grow it out again!! 47 year old. Keep you all updated on my progress. I feel complete solidarity with you all!!!

Greeting to everybody, a couple of weeks ago I went on a tour of an ancient castle down here in Slovakia, it was really interesting, want to share some photos with you
enjoy and feel free to comment :)
Granted, my hair only just hits my nose and I'm growing my hair out again, but have always been a longhair at heart... Yet, I'm gay and have rarely, rarely ever met another gay guy with long hair. Are there any fellow gay longhairs out there?
A new milestone for me. I can put an arm behind my back and reach up and grab hair ends between my finger and thumb - increasing amounts...
Anthony
I'm a bit skeptical, but I am open-minded of accelerated hair growth, but 1 inch in a week??
(just took earlier this morning, btw -- 26 months)
No, I don't really eat rice -- I prefer noodles or naan bread and usually have one of those with each meal.
Today's breakfast for me: instant ramen (with seasoning, of course!) 1 packet with red pepper flakes, crispy fried chicken -- 3 pieces, and 1,2L of banana-watermelon smoothie with greek yogurt. (1400 calories, too much sodium, and an artery clogging amount of fat)
I'm 20, 171 cm (or so I think), 62 kg, 17%bf

Here is my hair length after 14 months of sticking to my guns :)

Here is 6 months' growth from a buzz cut with a #1 attachment.

My monthly update.
I ran across this old woodstock era song by Crosby, Stills and Nash + Young that many probably have or have not heard and thought I would share, but why was it referred to as a "Freak Flag"back then?
imho, a Freak is not someone with long hair, but very strange looking people that look like they belong in a circus.
long hair is normal imho.
Some useful info?
what do you think?
I know it's a girl, but she does have pretty hair, doesn't she?
>this could turn out to be completely false, but I was curious
>I read that silica is a viable supplement to increased hair growth
>and that it is found in good concentrations in rice, especially brown rice
>Asians like me have a naturally rice-heavy diet. Is it possible that this is why we seem to reportedly have a faster (or more healthy?) hair growth?
>just an idea I wanted to bounce off of you all since it came to mind
hey there all, does anyone have secrets to share regarding keeping white hair White...,, I ve tried lots of things but no one product seems to clean up brassy, yellowness and so on. Thought of bleaching but terrible for the hair... any ideas?
thanks muchly....Onslow.

I feel like it's taking forever but I'm getting there lol.
So I've been growing my hair for about 3 years now... and I'm at a crossroads. Now that Summer is looming, I am seriously thinking of cutting off my hair. It's long, thick, and heavy. Part of the joy I had in growing it was changing styles, and seeing it progress over time. Now it's longer than I've ever had it before, (about to my nipples) and I'm bored with it always looking the same and taking forever to wash/dry.
Am I alone in that the journey towards having longer hair has been more exciting than actually having the long hair?

I'm a male with long hair who love wear my hair long with diferents syles

Hi Hairy People,
For those who don't know my hair history:
On June 21st, back in 2000, I impulsively cut off my waist-length hair to short (yes, feel free to tease me that it must have been a REALLY "bad hair day" - LOL)....
Although the first day after cutting, it briefly felt kind of "fun" (like I was wearing some sort of new & different "costume"), after I fully realized what I had done, I deeply (and I do mean, DEEEEEPLY) regretted the decision to go back to a short haircut.
In just a few days, I am celebrating that devastating Y2K event as my official 15-year COMMITMENT TO LONG HAIR anniversary!
Starting with this recent pic, taken by Bill & Larry a month or so ago when they visited my deer fenced rose garden where I work, I'll share my favorite hair pics from the past few years... Let the hair-spamming begin!!
- Ken in San Francisco
PS - This pearly white rose, one of my all-time favorites, is an old French Tea rose dating back to 1850, called "Climbing Sombreuil" -- and it smells just like green apples!

don't post much but still around ... recently turned 60 but think I have added a few inches to the mane since last year

What's up? Lol.
Forget what the band looks like. it's the message of the song that I like!
"When all the girls had long hair, when all the boys had long hair and you were missing out"

A view from Alicante beach this evening, a little bit windy!
Enjoy !

Hey guys, new poster here. 18 Months ago I buzzed my head (2mm all around) and haven't gotten it cut since. Going for 2 years and then I will decide what to do with it from there!
From your own personal experience, who would you say was more supportive of Men wearing longer hair? least supportive?
women with very short haircuts like pixies, medium short like a chin length Bob, women with shoulder length hair, women with mid-back length or longer?
This just started recently after a well known celebrity, who I won't mention here changed from a "he" to a "she" and now some family members are starting to wonder about me, but I have NO intentions of changing to a female and it really annoys me that people would jump to such conclusions.
does anyone have any suggestions on how to deal with this?

Hey guy, just dropping by to say, Hello and to post a photo...Almost 8 years of hair growth. Hope everyone is having a great summer, sofar. Here in Kentucky, June has been a wet month. Good for the growing veggies. Take care!
a guy with shoulder length or longer hair stands a LOT more HAIR to lose, but here are five reasons why even any guy starting to grow his hair out should avoid any and all barber shops!
1)Barbers think if a guy's hair is over the top of his ears he is overdue for a real haircut.
2)Barbers are good at doing one thing-giving very short short haircuts and love to use the clippers.
3)to a barber, "long" means that you can actually comb the top, short means, buzzed to about 1/4"
4)Barbers still reference The Beatles for helping to put Barber Shops out of business years ago even though the Beatles hair was not that long(from the early years)and it was actually chain salons that put them out of business, not the Beatles.
5)a Barber thinks Men wanting long hair are "stuck in the(insert decade)" and do not comprehend why any Man would want anything other than a standard "business" or military cut in the year 2015.

With the way my hair is now, I look like Severus Snape.
"Detention, Potter!!"

Hair is coming along nicely if I do say so myself...

Hi everybody,
I have been sorely lacking in board participation lately. I have to try to remedy that! I have enjoyed reading the posts, but haven't replied unfortunately! Welcome to the new posters and love the hair pics that's for sure! I thought I would post a current photo of my crazy hair since I am somewhat happy with the way it looks. Everybody keep on growing and be well! Thanks for looking!
Ted

Went to Target and picked up a $6 bottle of argan oil. I'll update you guys if it's any good.
So, I've been noticing this trend: I get up every morning with seriously bad bedhead. It takes me about 15 minutes to slowly detangle my hair with a comb. My hair isn't long enough to braid, and sleeping on a very small pony-tail is uncomfortable. Does anyone have some advice with what to do with my hair at night, so that it's not such a disaster in the morning? I'd be much obliged. Cheers. :)

brrrrrrrrrrr
Watch some asian kid (me) ramble on about his one year second-time-around update on hair growth!
I took the plunge today and bought some ooconut oil.
ORS brand from CVS.
Now am I correct that it should be applied to the ends only,
not to the scalp even though it says to use it on the scalp?
When should I use it? How long should it be left in?
And do I just leave it in or shampoo it out?
(I should note that I don't use shampoo, just use conditioner.

Here is a pic from today after using coconut oil this morning. I am roughly two weeks away from my 14 month journey so far. Take care all !

Hi all. Just wanted to post my braid pic.

Hey, guys I used this site back in the day (about 3 years ago was the last time), posted a couple of picture 'n' such. Long story short I have transitioned to female and of course I still love men with long hair and it's good to see this site doing well and some really beautiful maines on here.
I have struggled with dry straggly hair all my life and have tried a lot of different ways to try and sort the problem. (now I am all for using virtually no product of any type. (water is my main source of cleaning with air drying these days) but to no avail!.
Can anybody suggest anything I can do?
Very little in the way of split ends and it's treated like silk but no luck I guess :(.
Much appreciated and hope you are all having a wonderful day and life!
*Note*
The color change of my hair was due to my hormone medication went from Blackish (while I was balding) back to Blonde (now it's all growing back)
Today is my hair's 21st birthday - 21 years since my last trim in 1994. So let's party.
Happy growing to you all and thanks for all your support during the journey so far.
Looking forward to the rest of the journey.

From my family to yours,Happy Father's Day to all the longhaired Fathers out there!
Please click below for an interesting article I found, connected to the recent post (a little bit down the page) regarding long hair and heavy metal. I noticed that a lot of people here (myself included) enjoy listening to Classical music. Also being a dyed-in-the-wool metal head, I have long felt that the similarities between the two genres are at least as great as are the differences.
It's been quite a while since I last visited the MLHH... hope you've all been well, my friends!
Cheers,
Val
From my family to yours,Happy Father's Day to all the longhaired Fathers out there!
First off, I am petrified of going into any barber shop because usually the barbers are all guys with some type of military buzzed style and when they see a guy with long hair the first thing they do is pull out the Oyster Clippers which can remove a lot of hair very quickly.
salons on the other hand and I am referring to reputable salons not some type of "super cuts" or "fantastic sams" strip mall "salon" which hires just out of school grads, but real professionals that will work with you rather than resort to taking something that took a considerable time to grow and shear it off. if you ask for a consultation they will give it. barbers are not in business of giving consultations. they're in business to do one thing-give very short haircuts!
what are your experiences with both and which of the two would you prefer to go to if at all?
Most of the guys with long hair I meet are into Heavy Metal music such as Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and similar, but I am not a fan of those bands and feel like an outsider among those with long hair.
among the elder long haired guys, their tastes generally fall into the "Classic Rock" genre.
Is there anyone besides me with long hair that listens to something other than Heavy Metal or Classic Rock music?
what about Electronic music?

Wore a bun all day today. Needed a bit of help from my sister to make it look nice though. It was super nice having it all up with it being real warm but I think I prefer how a ponytail or braid looks so I don't know if I'll wear it again.
I've noticed that with the summer heat, my head starts to produce hair oils (sebum or something?) quicker. A LOT quicker. Because my hair type is very straight and smooth, this oil distributes itself straight down the shaft almost on its own. This is great in the winter (and will be much appreciated in my later years), but with this increased production, my hair feels super oily after only a day and a half, if even that.
Any advice on getting my body to cut back on oil production? Right now I'm thinking of trying to shampoo once every two weeks instead of twice a week, and keeping it loosely tied up during that time. I hope that that'd make it produce less over a period of time, thinking that it doesn't need to replenish its stock as quickly.

Hey Guys,
This is the hair and pacemaker pic I said that I would post.
Raymond
I don't see many braids around. A few on young girls, but on adults, very few. I have only ever seen one man braid apart from my own.
However today, I was buying a newspaper and there was a shop manager with a braid about as long as mine. I said how nice it looked and she was kind enough to say she thought mine looked good, too.
Is it not a measure of gender equality that we could compliment each other? Not something that would have happened in any other generation since the times of cave men and women, I would guess. Nice to share that moment.

Hi everyone.
I just turned 57 years young this week. So here's an update. First pic is where I was in December 2012 ( 2 1/2 years ago).
My younger sister recently graduated highschool so I traveled to Toronto with my girlfriend to celebrate with her and the family. Loving my hair growth.
http://imgur.com/a/mYtQ3#0
Yesterday, I went for an interview with an employer that wanted to see me if I fit into their requirements for the job.
I sat in the chair and waited to be called by the employer, until a woman came in and sat in a chair next to me and so she started talking to me until she told me something that maded me very angry, the subject "hair".
"For me, I think that man is only a man if they wear their hair shortest as possible"
So I asked her: "If you like short hair so much, why you didn't you do a pixie cut or do a buzzcut in your hair?"
And she answered: "I like my hair long the way it is, but man should have their hair short and that's my opinion, and I think you should shave your hair and stop looking like a woman"
So I said: "Yeah? Who told you that man only should have short hair? And if I say to you that I heard somewhere else that only woman need to have long hair? NO ONE SAID THAT"
She replied saying: "You're right, no one said that, but I think you should cut your hair and by the way, it's just hair my dear and it grows back, maybe if you cut your hair you can have better chances getting a job"
I answered her: "Just hair? JUST HAIR? Hair doesn't grow that instantly, it takes time and can be butchered by a barber in 5 minutes. May I ask you if your Hair is JUST HAIR for you lady?"
She said: "I could never see me fit short hair, I don't like short hair, I would never cut my hair, my hair is growing for 8 years or more and no, I'm not going to cut my hair, but man should cut their hair"
I was going to answer her, but I was saved by the employer calling me to get in his office. It really pissed me off you know, someone who say man should wear their hair shortest as possible and loves her long hair is someone who contradicts herself.
After the end of the interview, I went back home and my mother started saying: "Companies got standards, and one of those is maintaining men's hair short, and I think you should cut yours for better chances at getting a job, remember it's just hair and grows back". I was already pissed off for that woman and my mother said the exactly same thing that woman said, I just said one thing for my mother: "Would you cut your hair for getting a job?" She rapidly answered me: "No, I'm not gonna make anything that I don't like just for getting a job, they should accept me the way I am" and so I said: "The same as I think, and your answer ends this conversation"
I don't care about what the others think about me but, you don't know how I really hate these words: "It's just hair" hell no, it isn't just hair, it's years spended for maintaning and taking care that can be butchered in 5 minutes in a barbershop.
Hope everyone is alright and doing fine!
Here's a pic of me from the front I took the other day. And the other one is from when i was first growing my hair out a couple years ago.

Today is a particularly humid day in Michigan. Any suggestions on managing long hair in this weather?

Loving my progress thus far. My older sister is getting married in July, I am in the wedding, and she has no quarrels with my hair which is great!
Im just curious, how many of you braid your hair? I'm growing mine out and plan on braiding it when it gets long enough. I've always wanted to try it especially a french braid. Id like to see pics if any of you have any So I can get an idea of what it looks like on a guy

As those of you who've seen my previous pictures know, my hair is usually flat and straight, but for some reason (probably because I keep it plaited while in the pool) it tends to dry with a bit of a wave in it after I go swimming.

As I said earlier I have been growing my hair for 4 years, it is 4 years and 2 months to be precise :)
I usually wear ponytail.
One of the easiest and the most practical ways of wearing long hair...

Hello, I am also new to the site. Great community! It is cool to be with you guys! Name´s Mark, 23 years old. I am from Slovakia (a tiny country in Europe, just in case). Have been growing out my hair for about 4 years with occasional trims. Have it down to the shoulder blades, would like to have it longer but after some length milestone my hair seems to have stopped growing... well I am not upset, I am happy with the length I managed to reach.
Hello, I have been perusing the site for several months now and have found it a welcome friend. It is refreshing to read the positive comments and constant support to and from participants. Four years into my long hair journey and I am a grateful longhair because of mlhh. 63 years young.
Here's my almost 20 month update, only 4 months shy of 2 years. I have taken the no-cut approach and just let it grow naturally.

I have seen and replied to two persons talking of having their hair cut. Is it really germane to this forum? If someone decides to have his hair cut, they are free to do what they want. Is it necessary to ask our advice.
I used to cut my hair short. The idea now seems gruesome to me, and without doubt to most of us.
I have the feeling that it is like asking a pig what he thinks of sausages! This forum is about those of us who have a long-haired life style regardless of our cultural references

Just wanted to post my 13 month update after a slight trim. I am pleased if I do say so myself :) Take care all !

Had an outside gig in a pavillion last Saturday, started out with my hair down but the heat & humidity was so bad I quickly put it in a pony for comfort.
I loved having long hair but after a big argument with my parents I had to visit a barbershop after my junior year in high school ended. Still in shock and sad.
I wanted to grow my hair like Brayden's on this board, now it seems like a long way off. Any advice would be appreciated.
Hey Brayden, how do you get away with it?

Thought I would post a pic of my hair today.

love plaits - gotta admit ...

Hey guys! It's been a really long time since I've posted on here. Probably over a year. Figured I'd post an update on both my hair and beard.
Cheers, Isaac
Last Thursday the New York Times ran a story on kids with long hair, and their permissive parents. It is encouraging!
You can't get the angles you want. *sigh*
Anyway, pictures with less interesting backgrounds than I wanted.
Hey guys. I'm thinking of starting to swim regularly in a saline pool. Do you know if saline causes damage? I know it's not as bad as chlorine. Can't seem to find any reliable info by google search.
So far, I've received a lot of positive comments regarding my ponytail from friends. Gives me inspiration to just let it keep growing.
Little progress .... It's getting really tough for me to cope with pressure of my boss at work and parents at home to cut my hair... They ask me why d hell u want long hair?? You r a boy... Can't explain them anything.... Today a high ranked official in my company asked me for a brief meeting. He was puzzled that why I am growing out my hair.. He says that if I don't follow the corporate culture of nice and tidy look I might have to suffer early in my career.. I am from India where its very difficult to get a job.. And also I am working in risk management and reinsurance... My boss says that it creates a impression of clumsy and callous attitude towards our work to our clients.. My clients are based in Asia and few countries in Europe... I don't want to put my career at stake at the same time I don't want to cut my hair.. I am sorry guys dat I am telling my sob story here.. But this is d only place in the world where u guys can feel and relate what's going on in my mind...
I hope I get strength to cope up wid this pressure...
Anyone else having trouble deciding on a hair length? I was just curious.
Darrin

I'm finally back into my house after 7 months in an apartment and I'm Closing in on 3 years without a haircut or trim. It's really thin especially on top but I enjoy every second of growing it.

Hey, I'm posting a better picture than last, still an older one. You can see my very small pony-tail. (Sadly, the hair towards the front of my head isn't long enough, so I have to pin it back)
You can kind of see the Blessing Charm I have in my hair. It's actually an earring, fastened down by the hair band. I know that a lot of the more 'feminine' hair fastening products out there might be multi-coloured or have beads or bows. Does anyone know of decorative hair fastening products, or of other ways of doing this? It seems like a fun way to accentuate hair. Maybe I've just been living under a rock, and tons of people already do this.
Cheers. :)

Hi guys, I'm growing my hair out again after 5 years of having it short. It's already getting longish, I'll take a pic soon maybe.
I attached a pic of when I still had long hair though, years before cutting it in Nov. 2009. It looks shiny and nice, but that's just the flash of the camera. Still, I think it looked pretty cool in general, some days more than others, LOL.
On a side note, I'd like to give some advice, if I have your permission.
I think a lot of people make a critical mistake when it comes to growing their hair out and the way it looks. I think I can say this from a point of experience.
While genetics play a big role I also think that people don't help the situation, especially those who don't have super smooth hair that's super easy to comb, like me.
- People OVERCOMB their hair when it's DRY.
Seriously. If your hair gets tangled easily then that's your red flag. It means, don't mess with it when it's dry. I never, ever, ever, ever, combed my hair when dry (ok maybe a couple of times). By doing so there's going to be a lot of breakage and you'll be able to tell by the way it looks. I only combed when wet during and after the shower, after a good conditioning.
The best way actually is to comb it and untangle it while still in the shower and the conditioner is on (I did this with my fingers back then, but nowadays do it with my comb). Then you can re-comb right after you leave the shower and have rinsed. but while still wet.
I guess that I soon learned that some hair types have their own rules, including mine. Mine got tangled very easily and to me, that was my hair saying "I'm wild, leave me be - only comb me when conditioned and wet cause that's when there's more elasticity to me".
It could be argued that there's no point in having long hair if you can't have the pleasure of combing it. Well, it's your choice I guess. You have to weigh out if you want better looking hair or having the pleasure of combing it often.
It's all about taking the time to understand what type of hair you have. If it takes the combing very easily then it should be fine if you comb it often, if not, then don't.
Also, it takes time to find out the right shampoo for your hair. I noticed early on that the way my hair looked depended greatly on whatever brand of shampoo I used. I guess some people go through their entire long haired lives without knowing that different shampoos have different reactions on their hair and the way it looks.
I remember trying Pantene back then and it didn't leave my hair as smooth as Garnier, as an example.
I'm not going to advise on brands, as shampoos have chemicals and only god knows what kind of damage those can bring, not to hair, but to health in general. Guess some shampoos are better than others and more health friendly. Do some research.
Take care everyone.
I can't believe it. I never thought I'd see the day! I saw a longhaired security guard, in full uniform (including tie), with a great-looking dark brown ponytail flowing down to his lower back...
Security guards have traditionally been very similar looking in their appearance to policemen. Very short hair is usually their "norm"; but 2 days ago, I saw my first longhaired security guard - AMAZING!! He was very professional though, even got to witness him "in action", dealing with 2 different trouble-makers (this was inside a popular restaurant close to Powell & Market Streets, in downtown San Francisco, not far from a rougher neighborhood that gets a lot of drug addicts and drunks wandering in).
When I was younger, choosing a profession like wanting to become a security guard or policeman meant the death of any hope to growing my hair long. Artist, musician, school teacher, landscaper, or any form of self-employment - YES, no problem growing your hair long in any of those fields; but stay far far away from any traditionally "conservative" career direction...
Ahhh, the world is indeed changing -- and in some delightful cases, actually changing for the better!

I saw someone else's post about the french braid (which is what led me to knowing what it was actually called), and was curious as to whether or not I could do it, myself.
Turns out that I can just barely do it, however sloppily :)
Can't really expect to use it in public any time soon, but after some practice getting it neat I might.
Hey Bros,
My pacemaker was implanted on Tue., May 19th. I'm back home now.
I would like to post pics showing my hair and the site of implantation.
Would this be objectional?
Your long haired bro,
Raymond
Need some advice. I'm taking family to Florida for holiday and am going to spend a decent amount of time in the ocean. What can I do to protect my hair? I'm thinking a leave in conditioner. Any other ideas? Thanks!
I'm not a big fan of this TV show on NBC called The Voice, yet I wished I watched the recent season 8 finale. I heard a guy named Sawyer Fredericks won. I'm really glad he did especially considering how long his hair is. His hair is as beautiful as his singing! He did say something about cutting his hair, but the included link about it seems suspicious.
I've been growing my hair out for a year and a half and caved in to get a trim because of damaged ends. I swim a lot and am outside a lot, so lots of damage. My hair would get snagged and in knots at the end when I tried to comb it, even after conditioning.
In the long run, how do you guys help avoid/curtail damaged ends? I think my stylist trimmed about 2 inches.

Just a quick almost 13 month update :)
Take care guys !
I've been growing my hair out for almost 7 months. When I pull it down in front of my face it barley touchesy lip. I wanna know if my hair is short or long for this Period.

Its been awhile sense I have posted on the board. I do check in from time to time. Its cool to see many of the people I have chatted with before as well as some cool new longhair faces. I think by reading a lot of the posts I am a very lucky guy to live in Seattle. There are plenty of longhaired fellows here all over and I would assume as it is for me, no issues at all at work for long hair or any other problems which makes it nice. Anyway for those who know me, here is a pic I took while hiking on Mt Rainier. it was from early September. Its a bit longer now so I will work on getting a newer one out. I hope everyone here is doing great!

Hey guys! It's been awhile since my last update, and I figured I may as well show you guys my progress since my last post. I'm not going to grow it a whole lot longer though; I'm just waiting on the bangs to catch up to the back, then I'll keep it at a stable and constant length.

Hi, everyone. I think I started to let my hair grow in October 2013. It was longish when I started--touching my eyebrows in front, ears on the sides, and short in the back. So, this is about 1 year, 7 months of growth.
Since then I've only had one trim, to take an inch off the back and even it up.
Going to grow about four more inches, I think. But then again...I originally only wanted shoulder length hair. Who knows how long I'll go?
Hey Guys,
I consider you to be my family; I really do feel a bonding with you and with all long haired guys. Usually, we have to go through some "trial by fire" to realize that part of who we are; long haired guys. Therefore, as my long haired bros I would like to share with you that I am scheduled to have a pacemaker implanted in my chest next Tue. Please pray for me/think of me.
Your long haired bro,
Raymond
Today I was driving to work and got rear-ended at 40-45 miles per hour. I was stationary waiting for the guy ahead of me to turn left, then plowed into him and then ping-ponged between the car which struck me and the guy I was plowed into. My car is totaled and I went to the hospital. I have full tort, and a note from the Doctor of Orthopaedic Medicine stating that I am off of work till the spinal people look at me. I am also in a cervical collar until further notice. So, the guy who hit me should be buying me a new car, paying me for my lost work, and paying me for pain and suffering. I am in pain up and down my spine and my body is generally in pain other-wise. So, now I am homeless (staying with two people) and carless. Fortunately, if I can get to the public bus without too much agony, I should still be able to make it to appointments. However, for the most part I am eating soft foods/through a straw and relying on the kindness of others entirely. At this point they are not finding any broken bones, fluid in places it should not be, or punctures to internal organs. My cervical spine is more than likely bruised.
I am wondering at this point whether I will be able to go back to doing janitorial, if I will ever work on an ambulance again, and if I have kids whether I will be able to pick them up. Activities I was planning on doing such as gardening are out of the question in the near future as it will require bending. I was freaked out while being driven home from the hospital tonight. The person driving was not doing anything wrong and was actually doing quite well driving, but I was on edge. So, I am wondering whether I will be able to drive any time soon as well.
At this point, I am glad to be alive, not paralyzed and cognizant. I had at least six impacts between all of the times that I was ping-ponged and that I was hit. I was wearing my seat-belt. When people came up to help me, my car was on, not moving, still in drive and the smell of gas was coming through the vents. I asked if anything was leaking, was told yes that radiator fluid was leaking out and since the door was open I went to get out of the car. I thought, well, if it blows up then I will at least be on the side-walk and not in it. The passers-by stopped me from getting out but had me shut-down the car.
I am an Emergency Medical Technician in my state and it was helpful because it gave me better relations automatically with the the Emergency staff who showed up on site as well as the police man. I asked if the guy in front of me was ok, and he was, so thank goodness for that. The guy who hit me came running up talking on his cell phone. I am wondering whether he was on the cell phone when he hit me. I was screaming at the time releasing my terror and fight/flight reaction. He knocked on the window, asked if I was ok, I stopped screaming, glanced out the window without moving my head, and continued screaming. I think I was knocked out or else I dissociated.
My priest (I'm Orthodox Christian) came to the hospital, which was really nice. He is my emergency contact person as well as my person to make medical decisions if I go unresponsive (I am not married and seeing as my dad strangled me four years ago and my family does not believe me...you get the picture).
Ok, sorry, I am just really up-set right now, thanks for letting me espress myself. Sorry to ramble on, I just realized how long this post is.
Have a good day/night everyone.

Will hit the 7 month mark tomorrow. It's going to be a long summer! ; )

It's quite scary to think that I have just one more semester left.
Excuse the mess and the lack of muscular definition of my body; I have 2 finals tomorrow, and then I need to clean up my room to move out by Wednesday.
Of course, picture of hair growth (no rear trim, ponytail achieved in March.
Now time to hit belt length in rear and chest length in front.
I haven't been here for a while. I have just got back home from a really big sailing event in France. Like two others in my fleet of little sail-oar boats, I slept aboard. It was impossible to get a shower for the whole week, only an apology for a daily wash at a washbasin in the toilet cabins.
I tied up my hair for the whole week, letting it down when not sailing to try to get it a little drier. Sea salt gets into the hair and brushing becomes a nightmare. If they just provided cold showers at the ports where I could rinse my hair in water alone, that would have been something. One often finds them on beaches for swimmers.
One lovely thing about getting home was washing my hair and getting it truly dry and soft. So I'm still here and my hair is intact...
Growin' and flowin'

hello brothers...
just a collage of pics of my hair..
keep growing.. stay blessed..

Hey guys. I got some pics from my phone that are pretty recent. What do you guys think? Anything I'm doing wrong? Advice? Suggestions? I'm all ears? Cheers! :)
I'm not sure how to get pics up here. Doesn't seem to like multiple uploads.
Here's a before:
i have been growing out my hair since i think around thanksgiving last year was the last time i cut it. i have also been growing out my beard since about mid february of this year. i havent trimmed either since deciding to grow them.
i am just getting into the thick of the awkward stage and i think the worst part is that you dont get enough respect for having the balls to actually have a mullet and walk around like everythings cool.
the good thing for me i think is im a little bigger and also the beard helps, so no one is really gonna say anything to me without thinkin really hard about the consequences.
i decided to join you guys in the forum because im not really a social person especially when it comes to things such as hair so i think this community will help me to be able to say things i wouldnt express to people i normally talk to.
i am at work so when i get home i will figure out how to put up a pic or two to show where im at..
my short term goal is to get to a "last samurai" look
at that point i would feel like it was worth it, then everything after that point will all be bonus round for me.
Hi, ya'll, I be new here.
I finally decided to grow out my hair this past October. I've always wanted to do so, but my parents forbade it, for some pretty typical conservative religious reasons, I suppose. The clearest thing that I remember my father saying was that "the worst" thing for him is for one of his boys to "show up with faggot earrings and hippie hair like a liberal professor taking his girlfriend to get an abortion." I'm not making this up, he actually said this, which is why I remember it is so clearly. I was probably 13 or 14 at the time.
The best thing that I could do was just let it grow for a few months, generally unkempt. I have really thick, straight hair, and so as it grew, it would just become a bush, kind of like an afro, at least as far as volume is concerned. Now that I've been on my own for a few years, I decided to see if I can have the patience to grow out my hair out past the annoying middle stages. Recently I've been able to do a very small pony-tail on the back, that doesn't catch the front. I was still excited to be able to do it. I have pictures, but they're on my phone, and so I'll have to get them off of it. I'm happy to find a community of like minded people! :) Cheers!

As many of you know, I recently made it to a year of hair growth and faced opposition at my job here in Texas. I stood firm, and am loving every day that my hair gets longer. Today, my boss commented on how he actually really likes my long way hair, and that he wishes he could withstand peer pressure enough to grow his out. I took it a a compliment, especially here in conservative Texas. Here is a pic after getting home from work, and changing into my casual clothing :) Take care all !
Anyone see the Daily Show last night?
His guest last night was Willie Nelson and it was good to see that
Willie Nelson has let his hair grow and it is now waist length.
I loved his long hair, was dissappointed when he cut it,
and am glad he grew it long again.

sharing a pic i posted on my facebook page to update my gray look...my old pic had my hair the dark brown that i had been coloring it several years ago..here it is au natural!
This weekend there was a SCA event on our property. Lots of guys of all ages with long hair. Some of it pretty awesome hair. At these type of events the percentage of guys with long
hair is much higher than in the general population.

Hi friends...my name is Stormy and some years ago, I was a frequent contributor to this messageboard. I am posting here today because I've found something that should be of interest to longhaired men. There is a website called Past Daily which is devoted to historical audio. Today's offering is a discussion on the subject of long hair on males that was recorded in the summer of 1970 and broadcast in January 1971. It was around 1969 that I made my decision to wear my hair long despite opposition from my parents and other authority figures, and harrassment from classmates and neighbors. In today's climate of terrorism, brutality, and fear, it is hard to imagine that the length of another person's hair was ever a serious enough issue to discuss on talk radio, but here is the proof. I remember these times, and not fondly.
Climbing into my car this morning I pulled my segmented tail around in front of my right shoulder to avoid catching it in the door, and promptly caught the end in the seat-belt buckle. Harumph. Not a good start to a Friday.

Hey everyone, it's been awhile since I posted but here we go.
All dressed up and some place to go. Went to see Stravinski's The Rite of Spring performed by the Traverse Symphony Orchestra a couple weeks ago. A tour de force performance by a world class orchestra. A fantastic time was had by all!
peace,

Belated thank you to all who replied to my "Analogy" thread, below. Usually I try to thank people individually, and do so in a more timely manner; but time slipped away from me this time!
Thanks also to Larry for taking this pic a week or so ago. Bill & Larry came out to see the rose garden I take care of in Castro Valley (about a 45 minute drive East of San Francisco) approximately 10 days ago, this being my favorite "hair pic" from that day!
"Onward & Downward!" (except for my climbing Clematis vine and Noisette rose here, in which case: "Onwards & UPWARD!"

I can't believe that a year has already come, and gone on my hair growth journey. I knew that I wanted to grow my hair out when I began, but didn't think that I would have the mental fortitude to see it through. I feel like from here on out my hair will only get better with length, and I really love the change. I feel a sense of freedom with my hair growth. I feel like I can be myself completely for the first time, and for the most part, people accept me. I really look forward to the next year, and I wish everybody on the forum the best in their own personal journeys. Take care everybody :)

I never have been one to use conditioner much, but I used some yesterday after shampooing and WOW, it made my hair so soft and manageable. I'm hooked on using it now.

My hair length goal is halfway down my back and be maintained from there. I have a couple of years before I get there, but it is going to be an awesome journey getting there. Peace and God Bless!

I've reached the point where the hair on the back of my head is starting to pass my shoulders (when wet).
A friend pointed out to my the difference in length between the sides/front and the back, and was wondering if I was going to cut it all the same length now or in the future (Or ever, since she was aware that in 4 years it'd all even itself out naturally)
Presumably, I'd want to do it at some point, but I'm unsure of whether to start cutting back early, or later. I'd be trimming the back with a simple cut across the bottom, at a length where my ponytail would remain intact.
Your guys' thoughts on trimming now vs. later? I need to keep the ponytail for some work in the summer, but besides that, I have no major issues with a few trims leading up to july. Just wondering if there are any advantages/disadvantages either way (outside of extending the awkward phase just a little bit)

Hi everyone,
Just thought I would post a couple pics of what my hair looks like at the present time. Needless to say, I haven't really gained much length since I trimmed about 2" off a while back. I am suspecting one or more of my meds are causing my slow growth nowadays. At least I don't seem to be losing any hair! Thanks for the inspiration!
Ted

Growing your hair out is similar to the experience of taking care of a garden: it takes time, care, and attention in order to nurture it along. Tall trees, large ornamental plants, and climbing vines especially take a little extra time and careful pruning & training in order to achieve the results you hope for.
If you hire a cheap and inexperienced gardener to help you with your maintenance chores, don't turn your back on him, or you will get what you paid for -- a hack-job or other garden disaster! What can take YEARS to grow to perfection can be ruined in minutes.
... And so it is also with HAIR!
This is a pic of an arbor at the entrance gate to a small rose garden that I planted in Feb. of '08, & continue to maintain in the town of Castro Valley, California. The peach-colored blooms are from an old climbing Noisette rose named "Crepescule" (Dubreuil, France, 1904) -- which translated into English means, "twilight"; the dark purple star-shaped blooms are from Clematis viticella "Polish Spirit", a terrific blooming vine for a variety of temperate climates...
Enjoy!!

I'm from Mexico City! I have heard of MLHH and therefore i want to join.

Here is a quick collage I created to show myself at different hair lengths. I am currently at 11 months of growth without a haircut and only one trim. I am much happier with longer hair without a doubt, and am excited to see it progress even more. Take care guys !
Was wondering if anyone has tried Viviscal Man, or Viviscal Extra Strength?
The website claims the supplements are "clinically researched to nourish thinning hair among men and promote the growth of existing hair."
Main ingredients are:
Aminomar (Shark & Mollusc powder)
Zinc
Horsetail extract
Flax seed extract
I don't have thinning hair but would like to speed up growth if possible. The reviews of Viviscal on Amazon are very informative and generally positive. Lots of people claiming their hair grew faster.
One downside is price: 3 months will cost $120.00. It's recommended to take it for 6 months. I'm thinking of trying it and/or Biotin.

Hello dear hair bros,
Its getting very humid and hot in mumbai.. and heat is bad for hair.. still going strong towards my goal of shoulder length hair..
i wish i could grow my hair like littlebirdlonghair( for all those who remember him).
a picture of me today after office hours..
//
Really appreciate the advice and guidance given by fellow long hair bros:
1)Patrick brands- brother in india its somewhat difficult to get good jobs. fortunately for me i got in the national reinsurance company of my country at officer level last year.. its a great opportunity to learn ..i had a talk with my immediate boss also regarding this so he said as far as you remain presentable at office he has no issue with length of hair.. patrick your hair are growing very nicely keep it up..
2)long hair in albany- you are a really lucky man to have had long hair for such a long time.. i will also try to be me and have hair of my choice just like you..
3)Skunk Ape- going by your advice i went through my company's service rules handbook.. fortunately there is nothing there about lenght of hair..but if HR dept feels to add something if need arises it could be a problem.. lets hope that day never comes..
4)Ken in SF- ken you are a role model for me.. all these 5-8 years of lurking at this forum in past you are one of person who has been there consistently and i really admire your hair.. in response to your suggestions, iam already financially independent and live in mumbai all by myself.. in office i always put some coconut oil or hair cream to keep hair in place..and also trying to let the front portion get longer...
5)silverthorne aka daniel- u r absolutely correct ..this is the longest hair i ever had.. trying to reach the lump stage and cross it soon..iam using coconut oil regularly and also avoiding harsh shampoo.. i shampoo once in 15 days.. your idea of outperforming my collegues at office in dressing sense is working wonders for me.. thanks bro..
6)Ted: thanks ted.. your long hair journey on the board has been phenomenal..keep praying for me.. really appreciate...
thank you all...

The Boys Of Stryper!

Awesome!

Here is my (almost) 6 month update pic.
If you fee like taking a look, you know what to do ;)

My hair has finally gotten long enough for me to wear a ponytail. I think at this point I'll just let it keep growing.

Just visited my hair stylist. I got a trim to keep the ends strong & healthy for the summer/fall months. My hair should grow 2-3 inches longer during that time. ItÂ’s now a little longer than mid back (the angle of the camera makes you believe itÂ’s a bit longer than that).

Hi guys.
My 8 month update....it is really good to have gotten this far with my hair growth journey and it is 2 months further than ever before...the longer it gets...the happier I am with it 😊
Scott from Nottingham

This is one of my favorite bands of all times and my inspiration fro growing my hair long. Whenever an urge to cut my hair comes on, I just look to these guys for a renewed !

Just a quick update ! I am officially 11 and a half months into my hair growing journey, and loving every moment of it. I never thought I would have the will power to go through with it, but I will never go back. I love having long hair. Take care all :)
Hi guys! I hope you're doing well :)
I have a small question... I read in the "Repetitively Asked Questions" something about "neck hair", but I'm not sure it is the same thing that I will ask here. (English is not my native language so I may not understand all subtleties ^^").
I'm wondering if you guys, when you started growing your hair, use to cut "hair at the lower implantation" until your top hair reach your neck. (omg I hope I'm understandable xD). Because in one hand, I think they are a bit long for the moment, and I don't want something like a mullet.. but in the other hand I think that if I let them grow it will be easier to tie them.
Thanks for your advice :)
Marc
Here's a little update of my hair from behind - ponytail and loose:

Guys; I have been using Google the search engine to find Long Hairs who have tricks that they use as their hair grows ever longer. I got over the hump with the first year doing very little to my locks, like just leaving it alone and not messing with it,I have really fine hair with a lot of body, and lose curling waves. I really didn't know how long my hair was getting so even at 2 years when I had a picture taken my hair didn't look that long but proud of it I certainly was. I was fortunate enough to catch up an online "How to" and found early on that the person I was reading about indicated that he didn't really think that trimming at all was necessary split ends are just split ends according to this one fellow. I was really exclusively hooked up 24/7 with my Long Haired Leatherman as well for the entire time that we were together. He never spoke of trimming either and I never asked. I would guess now I even managed to keep my beard trimming barber and her shears out of my nest and that took some doing. You would not believe how she can up with subtle suggestions that told me she wanted into it more than once. Now that is so over she even volunteers to wet her hands after the beard trim and scrunch my hair to get the curls back and more even. Now that I have been using Coconut Oil (Organic for cooking)and Virgin Olive Oil the tightness of my hair has relaxed a great deal. My hair really feels much softer too. Now for the question on conditioning at the scalp? Just how are you supposed to get natural oils onto the scalp without getting it all over my hair. I have lowered the temperature of the water, cut back on soap to shampooing once every 2 weeks or more and putting body temperature oil on the longer hair (like bunching up the back)starting at ponytail length but never putting it in a tail. Also simply using a good conditioner on wet hair that missed the shampooing. I like it loose and that is the way I wear my long hair. I have tried doing a conditioner only during a workout with a shower cap for a couple of hours that makes my scalp really sweaty and that seems to help but I am wondering if anyone knows how to just get the oils to the scalp and try to miss the hair I don't know if this is possible but I thought that I would ask. Thanks to anyone for your input this long hair thing has really taken off so now I know that I can do it. Silverthorne AKA Daniel
By the way. He's not a rockstar or musician.
He is an argentinian union leader and leads many railway workers in Buenos Aires. As far as I know, he has enough political power to call massive strikes and paralyze a great part of argentinian railway network.
According to Wikipedia, he managed to increase wages to members of his union.
You can google him as Pollo Sobrero

Hello all,
My name is Fr. Jacob Maurer - I used to post here several years ago and started browsing the forums again when I started growing out my hair again 2 1/2 years ago.
I wanted to thank all of you for providing a forum for support & advice. I enjoy coming by and appreciate the fraternity that is here.
Blessings on you all, especially as we approach the Easter celebration.
Peace,

Hi everyone. Been a lurker for a while. Thought I'd post an intro to introduce myself, and also "meet" people for support and good advice. I'm 45 years old and have been growing my hair from a buzzcut back in December 2014. Hair is not all that long yet, but I am fortunate to have about 1/2 to 3/4 of growth per month.
I grew my hair out back when I was about 27, and LOVED it. It was shoulder length all over and I could pull it all back to a low ponytail (I had "arrived"). Long story short, I cut it, and have hated it short ever since. When I grew it out I worked in a factory and wore a hat on the job, so I really didn't care wha it looked like and the awkward phase didn't really bother me.
Now I work in a professional environment and am expected to "look neat" because I have to testify during trials, etc. The court system is pretty rigid. This time around I'll have to probably use some product to tame the locks occasionally. My hair is pretty straight, but gets a slight wave when long. It gets greasy within about 12 hours of washing it, but I don't mind because it should keep it healthy while growing out. I currently wash it about 2 to 3 times per week with minimal shampoo and very cool water. I never, ever use conditioner since it's naturally oily/greasy. Maybe when my hair gets longer I might condition the ends if they get dry.
My hair growth regimen is pretty simple: I take a good multi-vitamin, and massage my scalp for 10 minutes every day.
So thanks for reading and I will try to post a pic or 2 along the way. I love reading everyone's journey and find it inspiring. I'm a Longhair at heart, even if it's not so long right now!
Hello guys !
I'm glad to be here, just discovered that board :) My name is Marc, I'm 28 yo and live in France (please excuse my eventual mistakes in english xD). I always wanted to have long hair but each time I gave up in the "transition" period..
Now I'm motivated, but my BF don't especially appreciate long hair... I know that it's a choice of mine, but I don't know how to talk about that with him. (I'm just at the beginning, only 4 months since my last haircut).
Thanks for your answers,
Marc

Hey!
This is my progress in 11 months from buzzcut :) I think its pretty average, bangs are little over my nose and the back is almost to my collarbone.

Now that I have gained those two extra inches last year, and having now passed my 60th birthday, I now have enough hair to wear a plait/braid more often.
Reactions have been very positive.

Dear Gang,
Been busy lately with Passover and I had a little time to breathe, AND...it's such a nice autumn day here, so...
I've been fussily trying to put my hair in a braid for weeks and thought I was completely uncoordinated. But I finally managed and, as I thought I would, I rather like the braid. It's messy and playful and not as 'bouffant' as a ponytail usually is on me.
More images follow...
Best regards,
Don

This is a pic of my hair at its longest (or close) I think it actually got a bit longer before I cut it! Now that I look at this pic, I want it that long again. Maybe!
Tripped over this on Facebook about the show Other Space
premiering Tuesday on Yahoo screen:
"Zalian doesn't care long hair went out of fashion in 2083. Played by Joel Hodgson of MST3K fame, this spaceship engineer is totally spaced out."
Joel Hodgson was on a show previously called MST3k(Mystery Science Theater 3,000)

Can only have this in dreams

Despite the mostly persistent cloud cover, still a spectacular trek.
Hello all
frequent lurker, infrequent poster
Today Marks 5 years since my last haircut, give or take a week,
and yet I'm still unhappy with how short some of my hair is.
Now, overall, I couldn't be more thrilled with how long my hair has gotten. With most of it reaching somewhere passed my armpits.
(My hair-type & uneven lengths make it difficult to get an exact measurement)
However the hair just above my forehead barely reaches passed my chin, which combined with the size & shape of my head, means that even after 5 years of growth, I still cannot get all my hair into a single ponytail.
Now I understand that the hair in the problem-area grows slower than the rest & likely has a shorter terminal length, so I don't expect it to catch up all the way.
But the question is, Is there still a chance of the shorter hairs at least get long enough to ponytail?
Or will I have to settle for a half-tail?
Because while I enjoy a good half-tail as much as the next Longhair, I started this journey in-part for the simple joy of putting my hair in a full-ponytail.

This picture was taken in December when I got my hair last cut. Long from here (time wise) until it just sits on my shoulders?

Hi there my friends, hope is everything alright with all of you.
I've founded a job recently and got out of it in one week, the reason? Take a seat and I'll tell you the whole story.
A friend of my father was opening a car wash and needed some guys to do the job and, since I was searching for a job, I gave it a try (Washing cars isn't something bad isn't it?)
And now the problems was just begining, first of it, the place was a total garbage and had no workers in there (He lied to me and said there was other 2 guys,I was the first hired), second it was in the back of an auto mechanic (Motor Oil everywere, Auto Parts, Tar and everything you imagine) and I had 2 bosses (One was the owner of the Auto Mechanic and the other was the friend of my father)
There was nothing in there that resembled a car wash, since it was everything scattered around the place, garbage and everything, and my job was to clean up all that place. At first it was ok, but later on, the mechanic wanted me to clean up all the car mechanic and he said to me "Remember, your job is to get everything in place, for working in a car wash, you need to get everything clean, clients don't want to get their cars dirty right?", but hey, an auto mechanic is always dirty everywere if you know what I mean, and this ends the first day.
On the second day, he wanted me to set all the machinery for the work and he helped me to lift some of those heavy machines, after that, he started teaching me how to do the job, but it wasn't just use water and soap and done, it was an ecological wash with very hot steam (something around 250ºC (482ºF) and believe me, there wasn't no safety equipment and the high pressure pistol was falling apart and an accident happened, the hose that was connected to the pistol has released and in a matter of seconds I threw it on the ground and ran far away from it (Thank god I didn't got my eyes burned and got blinded), I've called my father's friend and he called the mechanic to see what happened and both of then started laughing at me (Hey, getting close to get your face burned by a 250 degree steam was funny? C'mon)
After 5 minutes, another accident happened, the hose simply exploded close to my legs and hot boiling water got all over my pants (If I were wearing shorts, my legs would be burned).
On the Third day, a car went there for a total cleaning up (Including seats, roof and everything around the interior), I've done my best for cleaning up the car and I called my father's friend to see the difference before and after, he simply turned around and said to me "Do you really pay someone for cleaning up your car and do a bad job like this? I can do this myself in my house, if I were the client, I wouldn't pay for this s**t", so I spent 3 hours just in this car, it was everything cleaned up and he keep saying it was garbage. When the client came back to grab the car, he complimented me saying he didn't saw a perfect job like that in all those years and I deserved more than that and he paid me +20 bucks as a bonus for the job, I was very happy (But the mechanic and my father's friend were really, REALLY angry at me).
On the Forth Day, a truck went to be cleaned and my father's friend wanted to do the work and surprisely enough, the truck driver just said one thing "I don't want you to clean up my truck, I want that long-haired guy over there to clean it up, my friend said he did a perfect job in his car and I want him to do so", that maded him really angry at me and when I was doing the job, my father's friend and the mechanic did everything to hinder me, the parts I already cleaned up they were throwing dirty just for me to cleaning it again, saying I was doing a bad job, until they began to humiliate me and started calling me names, even saying that I was gay and looking like a girl with the long hair (Looking gay just for the long hair? Never saw a girl with beard but ok...)
I didn't tolerated such humiliation and quit the job, I've told everything that happened over there to my father and he said "If I were you, I didn't last till the second day, you got some nerves for getting up to such humiliation and went even for the forth day, you did the right thing quitting this job"
After that, my father's friend and the mechanic picked up in a fight between each other and the shop closed and none of then talk with each other anymore (Punishment well deserved IMO).

took a pic this week when the sun was streaming into the house on my 54th birthday..hope everyone is doing well
Hi Hairy People,
Just wondering how many others here have a regular hair-brushing routine. If uncertain what I'm talking about, here's exactly what I mean:
It used to be quite common in my grandmother's generation for women with long hair to regularly brush "100 strokes", from scalp to ends, in order to bring out the hair's own natural oils (sebum). Since men rarely had very long hair in those days (in that particular generation at least), it was mainly females you'd hear talk about this, advising each other about the benefits of brushing.
I had an aunt who lived in Connecticut in the East Coast of the United States who had knee-length hair, plus i also worked with a woman back in Illinois during the mid 1970s who had hip-length hair, both of whom talked about the advantages of brushing over too frequent shampooing.
This kind of brushing ritual was done when the hair was DRY ONLY -- I remember my friend and co-worker in Illinois mentioning using a comb when hair is wet, when I first asked her advise on growing my own hair out.
Even though my hair was only long-ISH in 1975 (when I first met this woman), I decided to start this habit for myself, too....
The best way that works for me is to toss my hair forward, untangling the ends first, then eventually brushing from the nape of the neck to the crown of my head, and then the full length of the hair, all in one smooth brush stroke at a time. Long before I reach the count of 100, my scalp starts to feel pleasantly "tingly", and I can feel the natural oils being distributed down hair shafts towards the ends. I try to do this ritual every day between water washings, especially when i want to postpone shampooing.
Anybody else here an avid fan of regular brushing?
Thanks in advance for any replies!

I am looking to grow a mullet, but with the sides longer akin to the picture of Superman. I last got a haircut on 12/20 which was a tapered fade, no trims since then, and my hair is currently roughly do the middle of my ears in the back. How long will It take until it is about chin length on the sides and back-long enough to just touch the shoulders and pull into a reasonable ponytail?

It's been a long time since my last post! I'm going to post an update pic. I've been on this journey for about 3 years now. I've finally identified my preferred length, which is just past my shoulders. I grew my hair to about mid-back and that was cool, but too much to care for. I've now trimmed back to this length. I like it just a bit longer than it is right now. I'll try to find a pic of my hair at midback!

my current hair progress.. love the waves in my hair..

LOL. Yes I did the dirty deed - 2 inches no less! The winter has been tough on my hair and those last 2 inches were pretty wrecked. Now the ends are silky smooth and no more snaps! To each their own...
The other day I was sitting outside the Corner Bakery reading a free newspaper and consuming the things I had bought down the street in Dunkin Donuts! They close early, and I honestly thought they were shut for the day, but I later realised they weren't. Oops! But that's not what this thread is about.
I was leaning back in one of their wrought iron chairs, and I think mainly just my hair was visible. Some shorthaired guy wearing earphones came up behind me. All he said was "Excuse me ...", and then when I turned my head to face him he became incoherent and ran away!
I'm pretty sure I didn't look that frightening. When I looked at my reflection in a window my hair was even mostly in place.
All I can think is that he must have thought I was female, but what I can't work out is what he had intended to say next? Was he going to ask me for my phone number, LOL!
Weird!
Probably best to have those gaps, since I don't have much to say, really
My 9 months update video!
Really just showing the contrasting progress from the 5 months one back in November

Hi guys.
Discovered this forum a week ago or so and been lurking a bit. Really happy to have found some like minded guys - kinda feels like coming home in a sense :p
Used to have long hair and decided now at age 29 to grow it back. So still relatively early in my journey.
Question: do any of you guys spend a Lot of time in the pool? I know the chlorine etc isn't ideal so just curious to hear what you guys do to keep your your hair safe and healthy.
I only wash it twice a week (shampoo and conditioner- no silicone) and since I don't have a blow dryer I let it air dry (usually under a beanie cuz my hair is wavy/curly so the beanie helps keep frizz at bay)
Thanks :)

Finally hit shoulder length. Love having it this long. Goal is about another 9 to 12 inches.
This is my dirst update video! Enjoy, and please leave suggestions, advice, inspiration, etc. in the comments!

I havnt had much time to do any blogging [heavy course load and vast amounts of IT work]. I will be posting a 4 month update in early April. Here is a photo taken today with my hair down rather than slicked back-- which is my goto hairstyle). I have been reading the board everyday and love everyones progress, as well as thoughts from our fellow long-hairs who are fortunate enough to be at terminal length.
If you recognize my greek letters because they have been in the national spotlight lately, please know that I come from a completely different Chapter of the organization which has zero tolerance of discrimination of race, sexual idetity, Looks, or any kind of discrimination at all for that matter. I was completely disgusted by the actions of my now former brothers of the OU chapter of SAE.

Why is the front of my hair seemingly taking longer to grow than the back? Loving my hair growth but puzzled by this disparity.

Hi guys. I need some support. I am at the 5 month mark and posted and was about to meet a woman online for coffee. I told her about my journey to get to the year mark (6 inches) and she told me that "it wasn't her thing" and cancelled the date before even seeing what I looked like! I am feeling a little bit angry that people can be so shallow. I am also a bit disappointed. I'm not going to cut my hair, but I am frustrated. I am hesitant to post new pics on my profile because I am in the awkward stage and want to wait until I hit the year mark. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

And it is here, on the day before the 9 month marker of my journey from a faux-hawk to long hair, that I have discovered that I can pull off that foldover-"bun" thing in the back.
Of course, the front half of my hair still doesn't quite reach it. For this, I took the regular ponytail and tried to spread it around so that some part of it was facing every direction outwards (the middle being as close to right-on as possible. The longer hairs there can cover up the short ones by wrapping over it sometimes)
I think this is referred to as a sock-bun by some.
I like the look, it's a bit messy while still retaining faux-professionalism, AND it holds better than a ponytail because 2 elastics instead of one.
Since my hair is at the length where it tickles my shoulders too much, I might be doing stuff like this on-and-off for a while, using olive oil and deep conditioners to counterract the constant strain of the elastic.
Rant over, just wanted to share my progress before I make an update video on sunday hopefully.
Hey long haired brothers,
I'm thinking about hair extensions to take care of those stray hairs which are too short to reach the tie at the back of my head forming my pony tail. In this way these hairs will not keep falling into my face.
Any thoughts/advise?
Your long haired bro,
Raymond

Hi guys...this is furthest I have hot...and loving the progress my hair is making. Also taking 5000mg biotin daily...oily skin but hair is happy!
Hey guys! This may have little to no interest for you guys, but I made a YouTube channel that will document my hair odyssey. It will be home to not only hair update videos, but also discussion videos, How-Toos, news videos, and others. If you would like to check out the channel, it's called Locksdyssey (and it's the one with an actual picture). Also, please add suggestions for video ideas! I have short hair at the moment, so please add suggestions for discussion videos. Thanks!

A couple people asked, so here's my hair when it's not tied back.
Just needed to share with like-minded guys. I'm 16 and until this afternoon had blonde hair to the middle of my back- my pride and joy! My dad was really angry about my quarter grades so he sat me down in my room and buzzed me completely bald. When I looked in the long mirror and saw how ridiculous I looked bald and in my underwear I couldn't stop crying. My friends came over and couldn't stop laughing at me. I don't want my girlfriend to see me. Do you think a long hair wig would help or would I look dumb? What should I do when I go back to school?
I ran across this while watching YouTube on a completely different topic It's a video on the Minnesota State High School All Hockey Hair Team. I thought it was good, and fun ! Enjoy

Just wanted to post an update on hair progress using 2500mcgs Biotin daily and Biotin based shampoo. I hit my 10 month and 1 week mark today from a buzz cut. Thanks :)
Hey all,
Had a question. I'm planning on going in for a deep conditioning treatment this week, and was wondering what I should expect. I work in the sun, and my (about elbow length) hair has gotten pretty dry over the past couple of years. I've never done this before, and I'm a bit nervous/embarrassed.
Has anyone gotten one of these done before? Is it normal for a guy to have this done? Don't know if I should feel a bit weird about this.
Thanks!
As you all may know from a previous post, I am undergoing a sex change and becoming a female.
I am already living as a full time trans woman, working as one. Last Friday I even started with my HRT ( Hormones Replacement Therapy) and will be changing my legal name and sex next month.
You all gave me lots of support and I am thankful about that.
The truth is that now that I am becoming a female, there isnt much for me to do here in this board where it is clearly a room for MEN with Long Hair (or for those men who seek to have long hair) as I am no longer a man .
For the same reason, I will have to resign to my moderator position that I was working on for the same reason ( Also, MLHH rules do not allow a female member in the moderation crew).
Due to these reasons I believe this is time for to say goodbye to the board and thank you all for all your support throughout this time. Not only in my transition , but also throughout the time I spent here in the board. You are good people!
If anyone wants to keep in touch with me and you still dont have me on Facebook, please feel free to do it.
I will post a link to my Facebook down below ( and I hope it works lol).
Again, thanks to everyone and have a life full of love and hair!

hello all,
hope everyone is in best of health and spirits...
thanks to Raymond carter and steve for welcoming me so warmly on this forum..
you guys asked about what my hair length goal would be?? guys iam really not so sure.. iam thinking of shoulder length may be.. I have started working in a government company where long hair could be a big issue... but having long hair has been my dream since I was in school.. school passed then I finished college then I did my post graduation and was always scared of what people would think about me.. but all that is over now.. iam going to give long hair a shot now.. coz in life its now or never.. lets hope for the best..
I always had very short hair.. my last haircut(it can be called a buzzcut) was in august 2014.since then iam trying to live my dream..
thank you all guys for your support... this forum has been my inspiration..
here are some pics that I took today.. sorry for bad light, camera quality and my poor efficiency of taking pics of my hair.. hope it will improve slowly...
Hey guys. I reached shoulder length about 2 months ago. Here is my second post about being longhair at age 30.
One thing I notice, is there is a big difference between not washing your hair, and keeping it behind your ears as you go around town. Usually when I don't want to attract attention I just tie it back, which is about 80% of the time.
Now I probably condition and shampoo my hair once a week. But on a day that I do, and if I go out around town. Boy the stares. Stares from everyone. Dirty looks from the men. Women, I can't tell if they are admiring or giving me a dirty look as well?
Either way, I think my hair looks great with proper conditioner. My lady likes it .
I'm just having trouble getting used to being Bold like that in public! I'm not one to attract attention, but in a way I feel like an attention whore when I shampoo and condition it, because it flows in the wind and is all nice like. The thing with that is..
I don't like getting dirty looks from all the men! Or the strange looks from women! It's who I wanna be though ! It's who I am!
Hey guys. I've heard some of you talk about Wen haircare, so I got some of the cleanser the other day. But in the meantime, I read somewhere that it has caused hairloss in some women. Is this just a rumor? Anyone experience adverse effects?
Although Dave_AR's post has brought this topic to mind, I'm putting it in a new thread. I don't in the least want to detract from his excitement about his identity issues and the excitement others are sharing with him there.
Those who have not been here for a long time may want to know about this site's history:
MLHH was founded 18 years ago by male longhair refugees from a general long hair site that was heavily populated by longhaired women and their boyfriends. The boyfriends, more than the ladies, were put off by the idea that men existed who wanted to have long hair and saw it as masculine. If someone has a fetish, it's often a turnoff to see the "wrong sex" displaying it, so this was not particularly surprising. But the situation revealed itself in antagonism between the male longhairs and the others who used the site. In this environment, the longhaired men picked up and moved. The creation of MLHH was the result.
As is still the case, one of the two most common slurs thrown at longhairs was, "You look like a girl." (The other being, "Get a haircut.") Older guys could deal with this, but quite a few young longhairs were arriving on our doorstep having suffered verbal (and often physical) abuse over their hair, and they needed a space where discussion of the slightest connection of long hair with femininity was verboten. Just as women's support groups may exclude all men from among their ranks because the needs of the most vulnerable require it, MLHH put up some walls to protect its most vulnerable users. Trolls (and actually some who did not have malicious intent) tested MLHH's boundaries in its earlier years, so this need was not due to just conjecture.
Paragraph 17 of the General FAQ
Attitudes have surely changed in the last fifteen years or so, but some may wonder, "Have they changed enough?" This is something the trustees would ultimately need to decide, and I'd say "How the younger guys feel" would be the most important thing to look at. Who are we "there for"? What about the young guys who see themselves as not the least bit gay or girly, but they are born longhairs? Who will provide an appropriate space for them, one where they are not challenged about their identity, if we don't?
One thing I'd add about Paragraph 17 in the General FAQ: Although it mentions "transgenders", in reality it speaks of "male to female" (MTF) transgenders. In all its years, we have never had any FTMs to my knowledge come here because they needed our help in feeling masculine. Why? Because almost all of them cut their hair extremely short in pursuit of that quest.
One thing to avoid is arguing over the meaning of words. I remember one time that this was discussed, and someone said "Men's" was the very first word in our name, while others who had changed their sex argued that they WERE men. The first group of course disagreed. Why arguing over the meaning of words doesn't bring about answers is, of course, if the site were to choose any other word to supplant "men", those on the other side of the argument would try to assert that they are that, too.
Instead, since we are a support group, we have to look at who our target audience is, and what approach will be the most supportive of them, no matter what words folks may use to describe what the guidelines are.
We probably aren't to a point where we'd make a change (men are still being abused about their long hair on feminine grounds here in liberal San Francisco), but my best guess is that such is down the pike. It's helpful to make an effort to foresee upcoming needed changes, rather than to stumble blindly into them.
Bill
Hi everyone,
I'm sorry I have not been posting much lately, but I have been reading... Hello to all the new folks.... This is THE place to be for inspiration and encouragement..
Once again, another long time longhair (15 years) at work has cut his hair (not a buzz, but short enough).... when this happened before, others told me to cut my hair and "Join the Club."
I will not, and since I have been "bunning" at work, the bosses aren't hassling me...
I wish everyone continued success...
... And Thank You all for being there....

Hi everyone! Although I don't post here much at all I am aware of this board and enjoy lurking here, so perhaps permit me a little introduction;
I'm Invicta, of Invicta's Art Photography and I'm probably the worlds only Longhair photographer. That's all I shoot.
I'll be travelling to Las Veags in April and was just wondering if any of you live there and might want to book a shoot? I actually live in northern California, near Eureka but travel semi-frequently for shoots.
I'll also be creating a self published magazine called Longhairs Magazine in the not so distant future and I'd love your input on what kinds of sections might be interesting for you?
I'll be honest, 80% of my following are females over 35 I think, so my subjects tend to be what they want to see, however I do hope to broaden my audience in time to include Longhaired men themselves as well so any input you have I gladly take into consideration. :)
Meanwhile I currently have an Indiegogo campaign to help fund this trip, it's pretty funny, I thought. Might bring you a chuckle. If you would like a shoot, you can book through donation, if you're in town. Or even on the way to Vegas somewhere.
Looking forward to posting here from time to time when I have something you might be interested in. You can see a lot more of my work on my Facebook page under Invicta's Art Photography.
Thank you and have a wonderful day everyone!

hi all,
i have been a lurker to this forum from years.. its been almost 8 years since i have been thinking of growing my hair long..finally have decided to do it.. and its my first post.. i like you all guys.. u all r such a great inspiration..

It's finally been a year since I started growing it out from a business/brush cut. Of course, I got a "trim" recently that wound up nixing two more inches off than I'd like!
Haven't washed my hair in a few days, so I've been going for the surfer look. It gets curlier when I don't wash, and it doesn't fall nearly as far down as when it's wet.
Think it will take another 18 months before it naturally falls at my shoulders? That's my goal.
Hey everybody.
Well I was a longhair in High school, then I spent my entire 20's clean cut. Honestly, IMO, I get a lot of attention when I am clean cut. I am told that I could be a model or whatever. Sort of like a james bond type.
I sound like a self absorbed prick, but that's not the case. I had suffered from self esteem issues my entire life, and never really believed I look great. Anyway, ever since I was about.. 20, I always wanted to be a rock star. Yeah Yeah, I'm sure this has been heard of before.
But as a kid, I was in shows and plays, I play guitar, and I am just an entertainer at heart, that's who and what I really am deep down inside. Anyway, against unemployment, and my family sort of forgetting about me, (and often giving up on me) - I grew my hair out long, and I just turned 30.
I'm not giving up on my dream. I have been playing guitar for.. Sheesh, just about 20 years! So you would think, I would have gotten started on this. Anyhoo, ever since I was about 20, I have had this fascination with Jim Morrison. In short, I suppose I wanted to be him.
Poetry, being a longhair, being a rock musician, it's just something I've been obsessed with for many years. But reality always got in the way.. working blue collar jobs, even conformist security jobs, I always ended up cutting my hair.
This is my long running corny little secret. It's something that's been in my heart since I was about 23. I didn't know it was there finally until about 27, and now, I'm 30. Sometimes I ask.. "Is it too late?" - Who has all wanted to be, Jim Morrison at one point?
Iggy pop, the lead singer of Pearl jam were inspired.. Hey, Cobaine inspired me as well. So what does this have to do with hair? I suppose everything. In a world now, where it seems the lifestyle of a longhair is absolutely non-existent and insupported, in a world where, even women are getting clean cut buzz-cuts, and the industry is marked more about sexuality and instinctive survival of the fittest.
.. Growing my hair long, at age 29, was a huge step, even my family seemed to shun it. Nobody knows the real reason though, it is just a symbol of expression to me. I suppose to me, the essence of a free spirit, rock and roll, poetry, and all that jazz has always been in me, and I always felt this urge to express what was once a big dominant thing back in the 60's.
I played the confirmed pretty boy role for so long I never grew it out. I have to say, it's tough. I remember having long hair when I was about, 22, I don't remember it being so hard to have, at age 30. Possibly because, well, it's not really expected by 30 (I think?) - I think people expect you to move beyond
"Fads" or what not, and to do what you can to become economically viable in this world of competition. But to me, it's not only symbolic of my inhereint rock and roll spirit, (I grew up on just about anything you could imagine that came out of the 60's, 70's, and 80's if it involved a guitar) - but to me it IS rock and roll.
Well now you all know it. That's my secret fantasy. To be the next Jim Morrison. Well, I mean, obviously, I want to be (ME) - but I've always wanted to write songs and give my philisophical lean on them, Having long hair has been tough.
I live in a very conformist, right wing, redneck sort of town. It's been the hardest thing I've ever done. For a while I was wearing my cap and tying it in a pony tail. but lately I've been forcing myself to just let it fly man. Like Hendrix says, Let your freak flag fly.
Today I recalled a song by CSN, "Almost cut my hair today." - I really did. I almost wanted to cut it. but as the song says, "I will not give into fear." - It's who I am. It's been very very tough, I will tell you that. The stares, the dirty looks. I'm used to being clean cut most of my life, you know, James bond.
That's why I've been tying my hair back! But lately, letting your hair down, man that's a signal for trouble it seems sometimes. But I gotta be me man. It's who I am. Thanks for reading. I hope I didn't come off as pretentious or blowhardy.
Does anyone trim their own hair? I personally cannot and luckily I have a good stylist. I saw a method on another board, and I donot see how anyone could do it correctly.

Hi guys, sorry it's been so long. Life is busy! I'm guessing it's been 4 or 5 months since I've posted, I'm glad to see your updates and progress. I did get a trim like I mentioned awhile back right before Thanksgiving...I'm guessing it was about 1/4" - 1/2" taken off the ends and some layers put in in a bit too.
I still love my hair even though most days it doesn't look like I want it to :) Anyways, here I am, 28 months in with a trim at 25 months.
Here are a couple of photos from a few days ago. We had gone down to the waterfront to walk around, enjoy the weather, and eat fish!

I was on this board a lot until seven years ago when I finally gave in to the fact that my hair was receding, thinning, getting shorter without cutting and, frankly, was looking pretty tragic :-) So, I've had short hair since then but still remember the happy days of 20" hair! Great to see some old familiar names still on here (Bill, Jason etc.) Is Absalom still around?
Anyway - 'Hi' to anyone who remembers me - still a longhair at heart, it's just that my scalp didn't agree with me!

I think for the time being at least, I've officially switched camps from doing very little trimming in my pursuit of terminal length to now doing lots of it.
It's hard to pinpoint one exact reason but I guess the factors that come to mind are:
1) It's something different. I'm planning on cutting at least 1 inch every 3 months for the foreseeable future. I've never had this routine before and I love experimenting and seeking ever new ways of enjoying long hair and what results will come of it.
2) I've read and seen the success of others who do this - particularly those with fine hair. I know of several women at another site who trim frequently and have classic length or longer hair. They are continuing to gradually not only gain length but thickness at their hemlines. Their view is that the frequent trimming improves the health of their ends thus causing less breakage and move overall growth. From my observations, I think there may be something to this theory. I just had my wife trim two more inches and even though my last trim was just two months ago, I noticed a lot of growth in that amount of time. Even after the cut, my length seems to be very similar to how it was when it was cut two months ago.
3) I love the feeling of newly cut, fresh, blunt ends. I can run my fingers through most of my hair with no snapping and no knots.
This third point is what brings me to my question. I said most of my hair is free of snaps. My wife did the trim in the usual way with my hair all brushed out and she cut straight across the back. I'm not sure how much my bangs are really getting cut. This is the part of my hair the feels the least healthy and still has some snaps and lacks the silkiness that the back has. I desire all one length hair but I'm not sure if I should be modifying this slightly so that the front hair is having the unhealthy parts cut more regularly.
So, I guess this question is more for those who have their hair professionally trimmed...how do you have it done? Is it just straight across the back or the front hair cut separately? I absolutely don't want short bangs or anything remotely resembling that but I'm wondering if there's some middle ground.
Sorry for the long-winded line of thought/questioning!
So this post isn't all words, here's how my hair looks after the recent trim:
Hi people!
Sorry that I've been away for so long but many [good] things have been going on lately.
Just wanted to check in to say Hi and to come out as a transgender woman to all of you. Many of you may have noticed some changes in the pictures that I've been uploading to Facebook.
I started this journey a few years ago growing my hair out, then I continued with laser hair removal.
Now, I am starting HRT ( hormones replacement therapy ) in a few days - which I am super excited for!
I am planning on getting my name legally changed in a few months too.
Just to give you a little background on how it is in my country , trans people can access HRT and other surgeries to adapt their bodies to their gender identity for free . Yes, for free. The government covers a 100% of the hormones treatment as well as any kind of surgeries to accomplish the image we look forward.
Also, we can legally change our sex and name without the intervention of a judge. You just go to the government office and get it changed in less than 30 minutes.
I have always lived as an androgynous guy - though some people even back then considered me a trans person -.
A few months ago I started to live full time as a woman except for the days I had to go to the office ( I would go as an androgynous guy).
This week I came out as trans at work . Most of my colleagues already knew this or suspected it. But now I made it official to my manager.
Hopefully , the place that I work at ( IBM ) has a very open minded corporate policy in favor of sexual diversity .
I will be working from home for a while before I go to the office as a woman. This is to allow HR staff to get all people ready and informed about what's going on and to give ME more time to prepare to show up in the office as a woman.
I have no problems in going out in public as a woman in front of people I don't know. But going to work is different so it needs time.
Oh, by the way , my new name will be Luciana Victoria.
Here I attach two photos ( for those of you who are curious to see how I look like ) with 0 months in hormones. I hope hormones will improve my image.
Hugs to everyone.

Hi guys....am I imagining it or does hair growth increase during the summer months?
It's been a little over 2 1/2 years without a haircut or trim. Just washed and dried and took the picture.

Hair growth is going well. Currently visiting my Grandpa in Thousand Oaks, CA for a few days! Will post a 3 month blog update and pictures next week. When pulled down in currently goes to top of my upper lip.
This may be a frequently asked question but, how long does it usually take to get to shoulder length? My goal is to be at my shoulders by the time I graduate, which is a little over 2 years away, so how long do you think it will take?
I won! My mom said I could, as long as I keep it nice. Today, I'm going to get the back trimmed, to avoid the mullet look. Thanks for the support, you guys!

Before I started my 20s, I had short hair. Second semester of university (Beginning of 2010), I saw one person I had a class with the semester before; he grew his hair out, so, I thought, "Maybe, I should grow my hair out." So, I went along with the decision. One of the best I have ever made! ^_^
Up to Summer of 2010, my hair was long enough to be put in a ponytail, and, I have had long hair since then.
I always have people complimenting me left and right about how lovely my hair is.

Made it to 16 months since my buzzcut, it continues to become more and more comfortable to wear each month. Nearly able to tie the whole thing back in a tail, I am guessing two more months and I will be able to tie it all back. Thanks everyone.
I have just bought a webcam, so had a fun moment with my hair.

Despite the (fairly) recent trim, my ponytail is still long. I just felt like showing that lol.

It's been a long time but finally got my hair from buzz to over 6 months growth...loving it too!
Never stopped following the mlhh si ta for the support dudes!
Found this guy on the internet. He's a harpist (that's right, a harpist) with extremely long (below butt length)and extremely beautiful long hair. I think he's from Paraguay. If I've done this correctly, there should be a photo of him here, and there's a link to a YouTube interview with him.

Hello gentlemen, this is my first post here.
Its been almost 5 years having proper long hair. The longest lenght Ive archived its classic lenght started from an actual emo haircut in just 3 years.
My hair grows really but I had to cut it several times because of thin ends that I didnt like. After and accident I have to cut my hair to APL and been trimmin monthly.
Its is now slighly past and almost reaches my chest but I keep cutting back.
My hair feels 3 times thicker and my hem looks a lot more full.
Hoe you can a photo... im new here and may experience a bit difficulty.
Hey brother longhairs,
I have been allowing my hair to grow freely for forty-six (46) months. I have not trimmed nor cut my hair. My hair has grown to be collar bone length and has not shown any growth in length for several months. If this is terminal length for me then so be it. However, is there something I could do to foster further growth in length?
Your longhaired bro,
Raymond

I started using Biotin 2 months ago to see if it would help in my hair growth/health and have decided to post two different pics showing my hair growth in that time frame. It looks to be helping me :) I can't wait to hit my 18 month growth milestone ! Currently at 10 months total grow time. Take care all !!
First pic is from January of this year...
So about 3 months ago my parents said I could grow my hair long. Now, my mother said I need a haircut, and already scheduled the appointment. Now, I am a very persuasive person, but I don't really have the courage to tell her the full truth about my hair. I want it so badly, but I don't know how to convey that desire to her. Please help me!
Sitting next to me was one of the regulars with his young child. Nice to see a 5 year old keeping up with the adults on the breadth of sushi...and long hair. Not quite mid-back yet. Sounds like the long hair is his preference, which dad supports. Certainly, dad didn't point out my hair in a non-positive way!
For those who don't know, I have waist-length hair which, combined with my short stature and gentle face, causes me to be perceived as a girl more often than not unless I wear clothes that emphasize my body shape. That makes me very concerned about the reactions I could get by entering the men's locker room at the gym. I don't want to cause a panic or get harassed, but if I'm going to the gym to swim (and thus can't remain heavily clothed all the time), it's going to be obvious that I shouldn't go into the women's locker room. The gym does have a private family changing room (for a parent who's there with an opposite-sex child), but you have to ask management for the key, and it seems selfish to ask to use it even though I don't have a child with me. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I should do in this situation? I'd appreciate it if Dave_AR could weigh in on this, because as far as I've seen, he's the only guy on this board who's in the same league of androgyny as I am.
What is the verdict here on Biotin-- can it help your hair growth or harm it?
Also, I have a Vitamin D deficiency - would taking the pills help speed up growth?
So I had discussed long hair with a friend, and how men with long hair generally are not percieved very well in a work environment, and my dad overhead us talking, and I never told him about this before, since he's sort of conservative when it comes to hair length. He came up to me, and basically agreed with me, and thought that it was not good for an employer to not hire a man due to his long hair. I guess it's not as much of a voodoo subject around here as I thought!
did anyone see America's junior masterchef on fox tv last night (tues.)? your impressions of the 12-year boy contestant with long hair?
I am wondering why he wasn't wearing a hair net working around food with the that long hair.
I have officially undergone my hopefully last hair trimming for the following few years!
It was truly a nerve wrecking experience and I felt my heart beating as we walked into the hair salon, especially considering it was a random one and I didn't personally know the stylist!
I went ahead and explained her that I am growing my hair long, and I want my back and sides trimmed to the same length as my front, with the front not being touched under and circumstances!
The hairdresser, was a real sweetheart and understood by my sweaty face that I was nervous and meant business, and took her time in acknoledging everything that I said, and then we were on our way...
The entire proccess and results can be seen here in the video linked to this post!
I know a lot of you will disagree with me, and say I should have left it all growing naturally, but I have to say I was always planning on trimming the back when I reach the 2 year mark in September this year, and I am very glad and relieved to have it behind me already, so that now I can say good bye and good riddance to hair salons and scissors for the next 3-4 years, and focus only on gainning and retaining length!
Here it is, if you feel like taking a look!
Thank you for the support, reinforcement and endless friendship, Jason... wouldn't be here if it wasn't for you, brother! :)
Hey Brother Long Hairs,
I'm coming to Florida. I expect to be in Miami from Mon., Mar. 2nd until Wed., Mar 4th. On Wed., Mar. 4th I plan to travel to Lutz, FL where I hope to stay with my brother until Fri., Mar. 13th. On Mon., Mar. 9th I intend to make a one (1) day trip to Disney World near Orlando. If there are any guys who live in the Sunshine State who would like to connect with me please let me know.
Your long haired bro,
Raymond
Here's a video of a young guy named Telii with below waist length hair having his hair brushed and done up into some sort of samari-looking style by his grandmother. I think he's Native American, but not sure.
Jared Leto at the oscars:
Hey mlhh, I've been regrowing my hair for the second time after losing all it length due to having it burnt ( 2 years were lost T_T ). I wanna your advice about trimming it now.
last time I trimmed it was 8 months ago, so should I trim it again or not. also If you guys can give me some advice about how to take a better care of my hair.
When your hair is wet like when you take a shower or go for a swim does it become shorter or seem longer than it is when dry? How much so?
So I was sitting in class today, and I felt and saw something slide a little over my right eye. And then I realized, it was my hair! It's so funny how excited we get over the little things in life. I'm incredibly excited that my hair has somewhat made it to my eyes, and have also gotten incredibly positive feedback for my choice.

Hey guys! So I decided to post a pic earlier than I planned. Sorry I look like a troll! My eyes have been very dry lately. I realized that my hair grows pretty fast, and I'm blessed with my mother's thick hair, so yeah! The only problem is that it gets oily. FAST. I didn't wash it this morning, but I did last night, and I can barely run my hands through it!
This is my first post here, so I'm so excited I've actually began! My hair is at about 3 months of growth so far, and I just realized how fast it grows! Anyways, I will probably post my first pic at about 6 months, which seems like forever away. I've always wanted to grow my hair long, and my first huge goal is to get it to my shoulders or past by the time I graduate from high school. My biggest goal is to get my hair to around 2 feet in college. Thanks for reading!

In six months, I am hoping that my hair will flow past my eyes (for summer), but my mane goal (see what I did there), for when I graduate from high school is the first picture. The second picture is where I would like my hair to rest in college, but ultimately, I want my hair to be a little over 2 feet after college or when I turn 22.

Here is the second

Hi there!
I hope it's everything fine with you.
Alright, I didn't posted an update in the last month for the 23 months photo, because it doesn't make too much difference for just a short time (1 month) so I decided to make a new update a month later.
Since I learned to properly tie my hair, I can do this already in a couple of seconds and more confortable for making my activities (cooking, fixing computers and etc) plus getting easy to manage since it doesn't do a lot of tangles and for evading the hot weather (like we're having around here).
I can say that I'm already in love with my hair since I've reached 8 months and since the "Awkward" moment got away (One of the most worse Awkward Stages IMHO) and I can finally look myself in the mirror and say that I'm looking and being myself now, I just don't got words to say how I'm loving my hair long (never reached that mark before, first time), still it isn't in the lenght I want, I want more.
Maybe I'll start thinking about doing some trimmings around June or August, since I don't wanna lose all the lenght I already got.
Things are going fine now, my family finally stopped with the complaints about me and my hair because, well, let's just say we're going through difficult times again.
Since my mother suffered that trail accident and broke her ankle and a small part of the leg, now she has been diagnosed with hiatal hernia and gallstones and she need to do an emergency surgery ASAP, because the condition is very serious.
And, here I will be to do everything in the house again, like in the last accident but, this time it will be easy because I already had enough experience taking care of everyone around here myself.
Take care everyone!

Here is my 4 month update. I got my last haircut on 10/20/14. Before and after and what I look like when I wake up! ; ) It looks like I will have to post the photos separately...

Hello gang :) Working from home today due to bad weather conditions, and figured I would post a 10 month progress pic. I started with a buzz. Take care all !
What do they teach students in Beauty School?
The reason I ask is there is an ad for a beauty school running on TV where they (beauty styilsts) feel it is their duty in life
to rescue the world from bad hair styles. Do they include long hair on men on that list?
Do they teach these students that if a client comes in and wants xxxxx done with their hair it is their duty in life to give them
want the stylist thinks is best?
I've had a bad opinion of hair stylists already, this ad only confirms my worst fears.
This guy has two videos showing off his beautiful floor length hair. Some purists may ob ject to his hair style - which some may suggest is a mullet. Whether it is or isn't really doesn't matter too much to me because I personally think the overall effect is pretty damned wonderful.
One of his videos is:

Hey guys. It's been a while since I've posted, but I check here often to see how you all are progressing.
Anyway, I thought I wanted shoulder length hair...but now it's there and I want more! Thinking I'm going to go for mid-back...? I can't believe it took me 42 years to do this--the longer it gets the better I feel about myself.

Greetings, Brothers! As we batten down the hatches here in Southern Queensland and await the Big Blow from Tropical Cyclone Marcia Friday, I took a moment to snap a few new pictures of my hair growth progress. As I've said before, I cannot measure an exact timeline from a short haircut; I'd been gradually letting it grow it for a few years. But the last two-and-a-half years in particular, I have been trimming very seldom and very little, resulting in the mid-back hair you see here. I just had my monthly colour session Wednesday.
I'm very happy with the way my hair looks. My only point of concern is dryness. This especially, because I have been swimming quite a bit this (southern hemisphere) summer; in October I moved into a nice apartment complex that has a lovely lap pool, of which Clara and I are trying to take full advantage. I have a moisturiser that I like, and I also apply argan oil, but the more frequent washings do take their toll.
Much to Clara's consternation, I'm going to keep growing; gotta see where I can grow this to. Most of the time I wear my hair in a bun at the nape. I find, though that because of the volume it makes me uncomfortable when driving the car, so hen driving I'll either let it down or wear a ponytail.
Nu, think of us all sodden Down Under whilst you're digging yourselves out of your snowbanks up there in the USA! (My kids are in Boulder, Colorado, and whilst it isn't as bad as the East Coast, they've had a bit of winter weather.)
Don

I have been a member of this awesome site for over 8 months now, and it has really opened my eyes to what I want for myself in life, and how I want to represent my image. I have, in the past, lacked a backbone so to speak in certain situations when facing conflict. I am a very cautious person, a logical thinker, and to be honest, expect the worst from people. I am a dreamer, a free-spirit, a rebel in many ways, and for 35 years I have floated along in life, living a day at a time with no real sense of direction career wise. 8 months ago, I asked my boss if he would ob ject to me growing my hair out. He said he didn't care how long my hair was as long as I performed my job well, as it should be. I have made great progress in length, and am loving my overall look each day. It gives me a sense of pride, and confidence to be able to grow nice looking hair. I even talked to our HR director, and made sure that there was no policy against men with longer hair. As long as the hair is not in my face, there is no policty against length. Lately, I have been receiving comments from the boss of my boss, that I need to "trim or tidy up" my hair. It has been subtle and today it was a more direct request though still a bit vague as to what "tidy up" means. I work in IT, but I also visit offices regularly for hardware fixes/upgrades, etc. I get along great with everybody, and even received an Employee of the year award the first year I started working here, which was 4 years ago. The IT department has never had a member win such an award previously. I am starting to feel pressure to cut my hair, but I will not break my resolve to cut or trim my hair. Even if there is a possiblity of me losing my job over my hair length, which is ridiculous to begin with in my opinion, I will NOT cave in and cut my hair to appease somebody that has a different opinion on hair length for men. I would rather find another job, and even have to downsize/move than cut my hair and then feel miserable doing so. My work ethic, skill set, and personality should be all that matters at work. People are still too judgemental these days, and I am afraid that it may never change. It definitely will not in my lifetime. My wife is with me on my decision to stand strong with my view, and she absolutely loves my hair as much as I do. You guys give me strength to carry on, and I appreciate all of the stories, and advice that each member posts on this site. Take care all !

I decided to start a blog to document the process of growing out my hair and published my first post today, detailing the history of my hair.
The picture I attached is one that can be found in my post.
It is me in 8th grade, and 10th grade right after my parents forced me to cut my hair for the picture.
You can check it out here : http://journeyofgreatlength.blogspot.com/

I haven't been able to do an update for a while, but here it is. 29 months without a cut or trim. My only goal is to keep letting it grow for as long as I can before they admit me to the nursing home when I'M 90 years old.

Just wanted to update. This is around 8 months for me, and thanks to having had a longer hairstyle to begin with (faux hawk *shudders*) I'm able to fake a ponytail at this point when necessary (with the help of 3 bobby pins and some foamy-cream hair stuff I found in my mom's hair basket).
Most of the back is held nicely by the rubber, and the rest of my hair normally tucks behind my ears just enough that the bobby pins will secure it. Pretty great all around
And last month's post about the poofy/flaring bottom of my hair? It's already gone! My friend recommended not washing that part as thoroughly as the rest of my hair to leave it with a little extra weight/oil, and it did the trick! So glad
Hope you all enjoy your day!

I decided to start growing my hair out. No point in wasting time. I'll upload a pic of my current length which is pretty short and will continue to update on progress if there is any. Any advice or comments are appreciated. My hair has started to thin on top and it has receded a little bit which worries me.

Played a Classic Rock gig last Saturday, this is a photo on a break with my oldest Daughter. My hair was a mess from sweating behind the drums, lol

This is my hair after washing with shampoo only. Very thick and full at best! LOL!

I wish I had never cut my hair back then. I am determined to get back to this and longer from there! For now I am going to enjoy the journey! Keep it growing, y'all!

Hey!
Been growing my hair out now for about 9.5 months. It's been growing from buzz cut or what you call it when you have like 1 millimeter hair :D
Just measured and it's about 10-10.5 cm from the top :-)

Hello mlhh, I am brand new here and I just embarked on my long hair journey. My last haircut was on 12/15/14. I decided to do this for many reasons. First and foremost I have been a longhair at heart from the time I was born. I never wanted to cut my hair, and it was something that I bickered with my parents about for years. They actually used haircuts as punishment for bad behavior/bad grades. I just turned 21 in November, and I am slowly becoming financially independent. I figured it was time to make my own decisions and tell my parents no to their numerous requests for me to cut my hair.
I came here today to start my journey as well as ask you all for some advice. I will attach a picture of my current hair. I was hoping you gents could identify my hair type and let me know of your insight on how I should go about growing it. I shampoo every other day (today is my off day) and I condition every day.
Looking forward to being a part of this awesome forum!

I haven't done a back-to-the-mirror selfie before, so here's my progress of a little over 16 months.

Hey, everybody. Really don't know where to begin, other than to say I've been out of pocket since last April when my wife and I were hit head-on in a car wreck that could have taken our lives. We were out shopping for our remodel project for our house when we stopped at a red light. In the left turn lane waiting for the light to change, I noticed a car from the opposing side of the street run the light, come through the intersection and head straight for us. I had time to say, "Oh, God," and it was over.
To make a long story a lot shorter, I ended up with a crushed left ankle. My wife was bumped and bruised badly, but not hurt as bad as I was, thank God.
I had emergency surgery that night and then, about a month later, another surgery where the doctor had to go in and fuse the ankle. I was in a wheelchair for four months before my physical therapy started. After seven (7) months of PT, where I was taken from the wheelchair, to using a walker, to using a cane and finally to walking freely and unsupported like everyone else, I can stand here and thank God for saving our lives. I give all the credit to Him and dedicate the rest of my life to His service. Totally grateful to even be alive. I may have a limp now--who cares? I'm here!

Hi everyone.
Well, I must admit, IÂ’m in love....with my long hair!!!!
I had promised myself not to send an update before the summer....but I just canÂ’t resist! It seems that the longer my hair gets, the more IÂ’m really happy with the way it looks & feels....with the way I look!!!!
CanÂ’t wait to reach waist, hopefully by the end of year.
A.D.

Hello guys! I recently had the back of my hair trimmed for the first time in 9 months, and had a good experience. I went to my wife's hair stylist that works in a salon, and explained that I am on an epic long hair journey. She was very attentive, and focused on my wishes. She told me that long hair suited me well, and that not alot of guys, in her opinion, can pull it off. That gave me a smile, although in the end, every guy that wants longhair should not let that deter them in any way. I am constantly excited about my progress, and forming friendships with fellow longhairs. Here are a few progress pics after the trim. Take care guys !

Got a couple of inches off and am hating life lol, but my hair needed it.

Here's my latest update, to those still interested in watching the baldie from the avatar keeping at it towards long hair... it's getting closer.... not quite there yet, but closer it is ;)
Cheers fellas'!
CEM, your video ROCKED, so I made sure to send more viewers your way man!

This pic is my oldest brother from Fort Worth, Texas. I never thought in a million years that he would ever grow his hair long so this took me by surprise. Who all thinks he looks a lot like John Lennon?
Little girl, walking with her parents, towing a sparkly LED wheeled tote "I want to have hair like that when I grow up!"

I believe my hair is off to a pretty good start. Thought I would share! Peace and God Bless!
I was stuck inside today so decided I'd do a hair update as I haven't posted any purely hair photos in a while. It's been a few months since I've had a proper trim and haven't paid that much attention to my hair. It's nowhere near as long as it was when I was going for terminal around this time a year ago but it's regained quite a bit of length.
I still play around with the idea of going for greater length but doubt it's really in the cards. No worries as I enjoy the length I have.
Here it is all down in two different lights. No flash was used in either photo but the first was under mainly artificial light whereas the second is entirely natural light.
I tried two variations of the halftail braid. In the first only a small amount of hair was put into the braid leaving the bulk down. In the second I put a much larger section of my hair into the braid. I like both but the second is better for more vigorous activities.

how long is too long
I would be interested to know what guys here do with their hair when they go to bed. I am now at 16 months and only a few months shy of the end of my awkward stage. Up to now, it has been sufficient to sweep the hair towards the back of my head so it doesn't get all messed up under my head. (I sleep on my side and turn over several times in the night.)
I could see what happens when I do my ponytail and go to sleep like that. What have you found at a similar stage to mine and with longer hair?
Anthony
Hi All,
I recently got the ends of my hair trimmed and it turned out nice. I have a nice stylist who does a great job. I am finding that I have developed an anxiety with getting my hair trimmed. I hate to lose an inch to 3 inches of hair. On the other hand, I am certain that I do not want my hair to be longer than waist. I appreciate and admire people with longer hair, but I realize it would not fit my lifestyle. Has anyone else experienced this king of anxiety?

A few might know, but after leaving office in 1969, LBJ began to grow his hair long. While his hair, though long by conventional standards, might be considered short here, it should be noted that LBJ was born in 1908 and was considered an enemy by the Hippies, the first mainstream longhairs in over a century, so for his time and place and age, his hair was considered very long.
Two coworkers, both female, asked me a question, first stating they love my hair. they asked if I would cut it for 500 dollars. My answer was swift and sure "No". I then shocked them by saying I would consider Five Million dollars....in advance. (I would get them on a carefully worded and lawyered technicality, Hair can mean singular or plural. If not specified, well, I win) One then said she would shave her head for 250K. So what would it take to meet your price? Frankly, the thought of cutting my hair makes me uneasy. However. is there a price?
Hi Everyone,
My hair is at belt length and I am not sure, if I will grow it much longer. I may maintain this length or go a little shorter. I like to mountain bike, hike and workout and I think it will tough to deal with hair that is much longer than belt length. What do you think? Has anyone here set a maximum hair length goal?
Thanks All!
Darrin

Here is a pic taken today by my wife:) This is,officially, the longest my hair has ever been.

This is David Lee (formerly Treyn) returning after quiet a few years. Regrowing my hair so I thought I would jump back on this board with all you guys. Peace!
Figured I might start an interesting debate here.
How long does a man's hair need to be for it to be considered truly "long" in the sense of making him a "longhair" as opposed to a "guy with medium/long hair"? How short does it need to be to be short hair?

Knowing that I have pin-straight hair texture, it's pretty strange to me that now the hair on the bottom of the back of my head is curling and flaring out (It did this last time I grew it out. Still looking for an explanation).
Because the hair on the sides ends at the same point that the bottom starts flaring out (right below the ear-ish), my hair shape from the front is basically a spade from a deck of cards atm
Any ideas on how to tame the back to be straighter? Should I try out a straightener (heat protectant, of course), or hide it in a loose ponytail (something I can actually do now, conveniently), or something else?
I've been checking this board for a while now. I have yet to start growing my hair out but hopefully in the next year I will. I would like to grow it out to the middle of my back at least because I'd like to be able to do braids and different things. Lately I've noticed My hair getting thinner on top and I'm starting to develop a widow's peak. definitely not a good feeling. I've recently been reading about different treatments and what not and actually ran into this article. They're making real progress on stem cell hair regrowth. I'm hoping this happens soon as I'd like to have a full head of long hair when I do grow it out. Here is the link http://www.voicechronicle.com/201501-stem-cells-breakthrough-may-cure-baldness

Still going strong, already at the 16 months of regrowing my hair.
The 3th time growing out is much easier, I dont obses about it jusy let it grow and forget about it.
Very happy with my progress so far and will keep on growing for a while.
Not sure if anyone is familiar with reddit, if not there are a couple places there that are good places to connect with and share info with other long haired persons. It's also a great place to show off what you've got.
The first one is

And the other is

Still growing...
The link is to a sad story in the newspaper today, about a teen who some of us, who when young suffered violence and other abuse about our hair, can empathize with. The story briefly discusses "conversion therapy", an attempt to change someone's identity. That practice is now recognized as harmful and futile. When attempted against minors has been outlawed in two states, and it is likely to be outlawed in others.

... just a lil' ol' video of my 5.5 year longhair journey from short to long inspired by Raul ... I hope you enjoy !!! cheers CEM. ... click on the link below :-
So, last friday night some friends came home to have dinner and we took a couple selfies and I really liked this one because you can see my current hair length.
The back of my hair is midback length and the front reaches my nipples.
I don't really have a hair routine right now. I am currently washing my hair with the cheapest shampoo out there (after months of spending tons of money on "expensive" brands). I do condition with a better quality conditioner and after doing that I use Garnier Fructis argan oil and that makes my hair look great. I wash my hair every 3 days or so.

Hi all,
Here is what my crazy hair looks like at the moment. I have trimmed it a few times so the length is shorter than a few months ago. Also, I think my hair was taking its time growing due to my health issues. On ward and downward!
Ted
We have no photos from this time, I do know his hair was just a mullet here but I am curious how long it would've appeared if he was standing, or in a normal sitting position rather than crouched?
This past weekend I went to a science fiction convention and got to wear my kilt. It was amazingly comfortable and I loved wearing it with my long hair. The kilt and the long hair go together really well. I only whore it on Sunday, I wore shorts on Thursday and Monday for load in and load out to avoid any damage to the kilt.
And being staff alot of the time I was wearing the kilt I was doing alot of my staff work.
At some point I need to get a shirt and shoes or boots to wear with it. This weekend I didn't have a shirt to wear so i ended up wearing the staff shirt that convention staff gets. For shoes I was wearing my work boots.
All in all it was a good weekend with lots of other guys with long hair and wearing kilts.
There were several down points at the convention, I was in a panel on Saturday when I learned on Facebook that the outing club lodge in the White Mountains of New Hampshire burnt to the ground. No injuries, the only thing that survived was the outhouse and the memories of the many hundreds of times I went up there. And then on Sunday I learned that a friend i've known for years died.
I've been growing out my hair for about a year. My bangs are about 6" long and the longest in the back (top) is about 8". Does anyone have photos of really good long shag haircuts? Photos from side and back of the head in particular?
I want to get long layers as I grow my hair out to my shoulders. I don't want all one length. If anyone has photos of their shoulder-length hair in layers, that would be awesome.
This Supreme Court decision only allows prisoners to grow a half inch beard instead of a quarter inch one allowed by Arkansas, at least according to the press, but half an inch appears to be all the inmate asked for.

Not strictly about hair length per se, but of interest, I think.

I'd love to hear all of your tips and tricks for the awkward stage... most of the advice I've found searching the archives relates to longer hair, but mine (at nearly 1 year of growth from a buzz cut) isn't long enough to tie back and doesn't have enough weight to lay back/down on its own. It's also wavy and curly at the ends and very fine/delicate.
For a while I was wearing a bandana covering most of my hair, and then I switched to a beanie for a while. I feel like they're both soaking up too much oil from my hair – I frequently put them on while my hair is wet or at least still moist because it takes upwards of two hours or more to dry. And regardless of whether I have anything covering my hair, it seems to break on top (especially if parted down the middle) and in the front.
I've been using a gentle shampoo about once a week, and coconut oil based conditioner after shampooing plus a few additional times per week. I rinse my hair with water on a daily basis, and I sometimes rinse a second time each day after a bike ride. After rinsing I gently blot my hair with a towel to get most of the excess water and then I comb with a wide-tooth bamboo comb. My hair tangles easily so I gently run my fingers through the ends as I comb to help separate the hairs.
After combing I've been working a small bit of almond oil through my hair. This has helped but it isn't a cure.
The result from my routine is that my hair feels kind of frizzy - it seems like lots of individual strands don't want to come together and they kind of fly around on their own. It's especially noticeable in front if I've parted my hair to keep it off my face. The "free spirit" strands just fly all over and I fear they're going to break.
Is it best to keep using the bandana and/or beanie or let my hair fly free? And is my hair really damaged or is this just the way mine is?
Thanks!
For those of you who started with either a shaved head, or a buzzcut, could you guys post pix of you at 1 year after the last haircut, so I can get an idea of where I might be at in a year?

It seems more & more NFL players are growing their hair long these days, anybody else noticed this?

Hello guys :) I joined this forum about 8 months ago or so when I decided that I was going to transition from a shorthair to a longhair. I have always wanted to grow my hair out, but lacked the discipline and patience at a younger age to go through with it. I have thoroughly enjoyed my ever changing hair these last 8 months, and am super excited to see it change even more the longer it gets. I feel that longhair fits my personality, my life creedo, and my overall outlook on life. I feel that I was born a longhair, but deviated from the path for 34 years :) I have naturally thick hair, that has lightened some over the years and even shows hints of red in the right lighting. My mother is a natural red head :) The last hair cut for me was on May 15th of 2014. It will be a year in 4 months from today, and luckily it seems that I have hair that grows pretty dang fast. I had a short almost buzzlike style 8 months ago, and now I can really see the front hairs starting to grow even more visibly. Here is a pic from work today. I woke up, used coconut water to condition, and then slicked it back for it to dry naturally. I want to give each and every member of this board a thumbs up for sticking to what you want to do against the urge to cut your hair just to please other people. Each and every person has their own story, their own likes/dislikes, and their own life. Lets embrace diversity, and just be yourself. Take care all !
I just got my hair cut in December, this is what it looked like as of 12/27. From this length, how long until it will be at my shoulders? Like approx month/year?
Also, does it appear like I'm going bald?

I figured I would share my progress. I was going to brush it out, but I AM A WILD MAN obviously!
Keep it growing, people are crazy about my hair, and the only people who like it more than women, are short haired guys trying to get me to cut it off.

My father wore a mullet for most of the '90s. This photo is a still from a home movie shot in 1996. He is the guy in the denim jacket. I am curious as to how long his hair might have been if he stood up or was in a natural position like sitting, rather than crouched? What it might have looked like?
Hello everyone. Some of the stuff I have written has to do with Orthodox Christianity, but is not meant to attempt to convert anyone, not intended to hurt anyone, and not intended to be disrespectful to anyone. It is intended to clear up some false conceptions of the Church as regards hair. I am glad to be posting again. I am job-searching but off of leave, so I am free to fly. I still have the hair. January marks a year since I had anything so close as a trim. So, hopefully this continues. I have been lurking, but have an old cell phone, so can't really post from it as the text gets garbled.
It has been nice to follow the discussion and see everyone's pictures. I enjoyed seeing DaveAR's pictures of down-town BA- sweet view man!
*Basically I am wishing DaveAR well in Spanish and congratulating him on moving into down-town BA.
My hair is getting long enough in the front, due to not cutting it in about a year and a half to put back and keep there. I grew out my hair once before and found the most annoying part was waiting for the front to grow long enough to look half-way decent. Meaning, it looked like it belonged with the rest of the hair. So, knowing that I feel more myself with hair that is longer, I resolved to keep growing it out as far as possible and if I had to compromise on length somewhere, compromise on the length in back. I did this last January and the result is that my hair can be put back and for the most part, barring a few strands in the very front (I have a flat hairline in front, no witch's peak.).
The good part of the last 4 weeks of having no work amongst other things, is not being in a potentially harassing environment. I have realized that yet again in a place where they are critical of hair length, they are not kind to their employees in other ways. In this case the hair length thing is definitely a power trip.
I have figured out what I am going to tell people in interviews regarding having longer hair and a beard, that I am doing it for health reasons. I figure that it is a mental health issue to be able to have an intact self-body image. My intact self-body image includes longer hair and a beard. Hopefully the interviewers will not make an issue of it in the first place. If they do, I am hoping the mental health thing covers it. Mental health has such a low-brow view by so many people in the U.S. (I am dealing with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder after a traumatic childhood, been through stuff no one should ever go through), so hopefully this sort of statement can deliver a two-for-one blow. People in the U.S. also seem to not want to touch mental health issues with a ten foot pole (about 2.5 meters long, U.S colloquial idiom), and in conservative areas seem to still attach a stigma to mental health issues, even in the employment arena.
It has been encouraging to me over the past few months to be able to read the posts here because at least twice or three times I considered cutting it. I realized I was up-set that I could not put everything back like I wanted to, but it will be about two more inches in the front till I can do that, so not that much longer! I cannot wait! Then it is comb, tail and go! I cannot figure out why people think short hair is easier to deal with. After the grow-out, long hair is so much better looking and needs less styling. I think that is for me a difference from women in this factor. Most men do not want up-dos, most women do want up-dos.
Contrary to popular belief, the Orthodox Christians have no problem with long hair on men. What St. Paul is addressing mainly is that men should not be dressing their hair as women were doing at that time. At the time St. Paul was writing it was common for stylish Greek women to put pearls, jewels and tiaras in their hair. All he was saying was that men should look like men and women should be given the space to make themselves up as is customary. He was actually giving great respect to both men and women. In effect, St. Paul was leaving open a space for women to be women and men to be men.
In fact most of the Orthodox Saints are written in the icons as having long hair, and so is Jesus. In the present day, many Orthodox Christian monks will often shave their hair entirely and then never cut it again. Other Orthodox Christian monks will just grow their hair out from whatever length it is when they take their monastic vows. Many Orthodox Christian Priests will also grow out their hair and tie it back. So, from the ancient past when Moses and King David (whom Orthodox Christians consider to be Saints too) were alive until our present day the Church has never had any hair dogma(dogma- official teaching) other than what St. Paul said.
Roman Catholic and Protestant confessions might have come up with other ideas, but the Church has never mandated short hair on men. Like I said above, nothing in all this information is intended to be rude or disrespectful, just informative and to clear some mis-conceptions about the Church.
Happy Christmas and New Year to everyone who celebrates these things.
Be well all. I will post how and when I can.

Hello, this is my first time posting, I'm sorry if this is a frequently asked question. I didn't see any really recent posts asking the same thing, but I didn't try that hard either.
Moving on to my question, I am an electronically savvy person. I used to be a surface mount tech for Intel. But now I'm thinking I want to do something else, I'm just 22, and I'm deciding if it's worth it to keep my hair or be boring but with a job, like most people. Honestly I've never gotten as much attention from the ladies like I do with long hair. So anybody have any suggestions? I even did computer programming for a little while and I liked it, I think if I pursued that direction I would make virtual reality games.
Feel free to leave a comment either here or there!
PS- it's worth the 14 mins, so take a cup of coffee and enjoy! Let me know what you think :)

I am a 26 year old male and I am growing my hair out long. I have been growing it for around a year now and i am disappointed with the way it looks. It is realy dry an frizzy. I wish there was away for me to keep the look I have when I get out of the shower(wet/oily look). I have tried pomade, gel, and leave in conditioner and no luck yet.. HELP!
I want the hair that christian bale has in Out of the Furnace. It looks Italian looking and kinda greasy. my hair is just so damn frizzy! Help! I wanted to grow it to ponytail length but if it doesn't look good now, then it may not when it actually gets to ponytail length. Im thinking about cutting it because none seems to have the answer for this problem.

Hopefully I haven't posted this pic before; but if so, please forgive me! At least I believe I haven't talked much about this topic before, as best I can recall...
The longer any of us decide to grow our hair out, the more we begin to realize how many YEARS the lower portion of our manes have been exposed to a lot of wear & tear, wind & weather and other elements, etc. -- and taken its toll on how good or bad it looks at the bottom.
I realize that not everybody wishes to grow their hair out to extreme and/or terminal length (as I do) -- or is willing to see such thin ends because of that decision ("Fairy tale ends", as the appearance is sometimes described); but regardless, there have been a few things that I've found that have helped me out very nicely along my journey... I'll talk more about those sub-topics in a few follow-up posts underneath this thread...

Okay, so I already know that, whilst hair generally grows one-and-a-quarter centimetres (one-half-inch) per month, individuals will experience slower or faster growth depending on a bunch of variables: genetics, overall health, health of hair, etc.
But is it normal to experience significantly different growth rates on different parts of the scalp? Specifically, I part my hair close to the centre of my head, and I find that the two locks that frame my face on either side seem to grow much slower than my hair does generally. I've had a few trims where we left those two bits untouched in hopes that they would 'catch up' with the rest but they do not.
Is it normal to have different growth rates on various parts of the head? And do others find that these two locks specifically (at the front hairline astride the centre part) grow particularly slowly? On the surface it would seem so, because I've observed that many men and women who tie their hair back in a ponytail - as I do most of the time - will have those locks hanging freely at times.
Thoughts from your own experience? I would love to know.
All the best...
Don
I bumped into this headline in lots of places on the internet:
“Nonconformity and Freethinking Now Considered Mental Illnesses”
So since I refuse to conform to the short hair that men are supposed to wear i'm now officially mentally ill. And since i'll have long hair until the day I die i'll continue to be mentally ill for the rest of my life on this planet. And on top of that i'm also a freethinker for thinking that men and women should be able to wear their hair as they desire.

Been growing it out since the last week of june 2014!
I've been washing my hair on mondays and thursdays, and conditioning every day.
I don't know if it makes too much sense, but I use an old t-shirt to remove excess water from my hair on the wash days, since it doesn't absorb as much oil, and using an actual towel on the other days to try and control how quickly my hair gets oily.
After 6 months (and 4 with the hair actually touching my face) I've noticed a trend: Wherever my bangs end tend to be where I get more acne. I can only fake a ponytail (bobby pins and hella hairspray) after 3 days of no shampoo, so I can't really keep it back like that, and hats aren't allowed in school. Any tips?
The red streak doesn't reach my roots (luckily), and split ends have yet to be seen anywhere still! A bunch of my friends are also in different stages of growing out their hair, and I'm actually catching up to her, somehow, so I think I might get to my initial goal of collar-bone-length hair within 1.5 years.
*End essay*
I recently met a friend I have known for years, and as we were talikng, I took the opportunity to retie my ponytail.
He commented that he has always envied me my ponytail, as his wife won't let him grow one.
So how many other men are there out there who would join us if they could?
How are you guys doing?
I just I would just share with you the great news, and that is that I recently moved out of my parents' house and I am currently living alone in the downtown area of my city (Buenos Aires).
That was one of the goals for this year and I feel happy about it because it hasn't been even 2 weeks since we start this 2015 and I already achieved this goal!
I have a great relationship with my parents. However, I am turning 27 this year and I was sleeping in the same bedroom that I have been sleeping since I was 3 and I needed to change that.
In average, in Argentina, people leave their parents' house at 25 or 30 ( yeah, its not easy due to economical reasons, inflation and we are a very passionate society that priorizes the family and parents can be overprotective and prefer their kids to remain home for the rest of their lives instead of leaving them go and do their own life)
I have just spent my first night alone in my apartment and it was awesome. Today I take my day off work so I am planning on going to buy some groceries that I need and walking around the neighbourhood.
Just for you to have an idea, this is where I live:
I live literally two blocks from the Obelisco (the Obelisk of Buenos Aires -that white fallic tower you see in the picture). The area is full of restaurants, theatres, bars, nightlife, etc ( It's probably something similar to the Times Square area in NYC ). It is also super close to the main touristic attractions, etc.
Even though this is totally off topic I thought I would share this with you since I believe it is okay to off-topic a bit and talk about our personal lives from time to time and take a break from the hair talk haha.
I hope you all are having a nice week!
I only got to see the movie a few days ago. The movie itself was amazing, the best of the three Hobbit films by far in my opinion but I was also blown away by the hair on just about all the characters, male and female. Of the six movies, I liked the hair best in this one. Save for a few of the hobbits, everyone that could grow hair had it long! Sucks to be an Orc!
I loved how I felt so immersed in the world particularly by watching it in 3D. Probably most have already seen it but if you haven't, just go for the hair if nothing else! I was even more committed to never cutting my hair ever after this experience.
There were many scenes with elves who have my favorite Lord of the Rings hair. I enjoyed seeing many unnamed elf characters who all sported very interesting braided styles. I would love to have some of these put in my hair some day.
Here are a few of the main characters who impressed me with their hair. The elven King Thranduil:
The elf Elrond shown here from an earlier film. What's nice about his portrayal is that his hair still looks awesome despite his high hairline. Apparently elves aren't immune from such things! The scene where he battled the Nine was amazing.
Saruman, leader of the Istari:
The dwarf king Thorin:
The elf Tauriel has my favorite hair of any character. I love the styling of it too:
Galadriel's hair was as beautiful as ever. I loved the scene where she battled Sauron.

Just a quick update, been lurking for a while now. Not quite sure when I last cut my hair, I think I had a buzz cut about a year and a half ago. Just some random webcam photo, regards!

Jason was in San Francisco today, and we met for lunch.

It was great for Ken and me to finally meet Jason, after knowing him for over ten years here on MLHH!

How do I grow long hair properly lol? This is me currently. Any advice?

Here's my first "official" progress photo... it's not the best photo in the world, but it'll have to do until I get my DSLR set up with the tripod again.
It's been growing unimpeded since the 30th of January, 2014.

I know my current physique is nothing to shout about, but I'm quite proud of getting so close to my goal of waist-length hair.

Here is my one month progress pic. I think I have officially entered the "awkward phase"(not short, but not longish either) and I have found with just the right amount of product it can still be easily controlled. It covers about half my ears, touches my collar, and is starting to get in my eyes if I wear it "natural". My goal length is shoulder length all around. It has grown about an inch in the last month according to my calculations. So I think I should reach my goal by my 46th birthday on 12/6/15.

Take a look! It's been growing for eight years!
Hi everyone,
My hair is about 2 inches now, and looks like a brown fro, which will probably get pretty big before it starts to fall.
I just stumbled across this board doing research on how to grow out my hair, while keeping it "presentable". I work for a very large shipping company that has a very "traditional" corporate culture. Some have compared it to the military in dress code and management style. Because of all that I will need to keep things "tidy" while I am growing out to ponytail/bun length. I'lll probably do that with some gunk of some sort and pulling the back into a tail.
I have had long hair 3 times before, but two times were with dreadlocks in high school and early college, so obviously I was not too concerned with presentability for a job... or at all. The other time was right after cutting the second set of locks but I kept it combed-out. I cut it that time because I thought I needed to in order to get my current job. This is not true I just need to keep the hair off my ears and collar. I could have done that since it was just at ponytail length before the cut. I still hate that I didn't do more thorough research before I chose the clippers.
So, after that personal-hair-history-lesson, I have decided to grow it out for a fourth time. I just don't feel right clipped short. Every time I see pics of the longhair days, dreaded and combed, I am annoyed I don't have that now. I'll use gunk when I need to, to get by with the dress code. Once it is ponytail/bun length I won't need to worry. I have seen several supervisors just bun it up with no problems.
Anyway, glad to be here. Nice to see some fellow longhairs.

1st pic of 2015. Plan on lettingit grow all year.

I'm not too keen on making a lot of New Year's resolutions, unless I've already had some success at making improvements during the old year. But with that said, here are my hopes for 2015:
1) to lose some more weight
2) to improve my finances by saving more and spending less
3) to continue to protect my hair ends by applying beneficial oil to the lower half of my mane.
Anybody else feel like sharing their hopes for 2015? We're almost there!!
- Ken
Hey everyone,
I was on here briefly several years ago (I don't remember what I called myself) but I've been following some of the topics here for a while.
I'm 11 months in at the moment growing my hair from a buzzcut last year. It's been an awesome journey - I have wavy hair that looks different every day (or even every hour at times).
All this time I've been rinsing my hair and gently scrubbing my scalp with hot water in the shower on a daily basis. Every three or four days I rinse with a solution of baking soda, water and tea tree oil, and then follow it up with 50% diluted apple cider vinegar. Lately, however, my hair has become dry after the baking soda/vinegar washes and it's starting to tangle a lot more. I started working in a small amount of jojoba oil after gently patting my hair dry but it isn't working too well. I don't like all the chemicals in most commercial shampoos, so what are my alternatives?
Also, I'm worried about tangles and breakage happening with my very fine strands of hair. I've noticed a small bunch of much shorter hairs right in the middle of my hairline, and I'm concerned they could be from breakage either due to wearing hats or my bandana (I wear a bandana *a lot*). I also read somewhere that this is fairly common and that those particular follicles could be at terminal length. Anyone want to take a guess at what's going on here?
Anyway... I'll eventually muster up the courage to post a pic one of these days. Thanks everyone for sharing and reading! :)

Hi everyone, I had a nice chat with Ken from SF last night and one of the subjects that came up was my thread wishing all a Happy New Year and including a pic of my longhair calendar. We thought it would be fun to post a pic showing the "longhair of the month" from that calander. Lol. It sounded like a cool idea so I'll now post the first installment for your viewing pleasure :) So without further delay let me introduce Mr. January! Cheers
